  1. Im not sure if the OP is one of them and I dont want to be unfair, but I dont get the lamenting on lack of talent when at the same time people chear the waivings of Josh Smith and Joe Johnson. Whatever you think of them, these guys are ballers, but indeed with big downsides in their game and money wise. For what the Hawks where set out to do, its been fantastic this year. Even with those mayor injuries. And there is much praize around the league for the coaching. I hope some good free agents that fit this system become interested into fitting into join a well oiled machine. Take Monta Ellis who gave up tens of millions to play in a Dallas system where he can finally play to his strengths. Just imagine what this system can do with more talent and less injuries....
  2. True that, there is certainly more trash. Though in northern Europe minus England its allot less. England takes the cake from anyone though with their gazillion tabloids and the tabloid culture there. Germany for instance just has one big tabloid and its unamaginable to have stories like those of England coach Herry Kedknapp with a headline like where they call out his 12 year old daughter telling her father is a "looser". Thats just trash, and far worse than the advanced metric nitpicking Americans do with their sports-stars. Im just saying.
  3. Nice write up there mate and I relate to what your saying. Im curious, what are ticket prices for a game like that?
  4. I dunno, but when I read it says "he was told, if he plays defense, then..." Also, note that German grammar is often similar to English, but often not. So sometimes you speak whatever comes to mind and it ends up comming across differently than it was intended. Sounds to me like people told him to play defense in order to keep his playing time. Anyway, American sports gossip is infintly more pedantic and obscurist than I could have ever imagined. Good Dennis is not a local hero double-double machine like Josh Smith though.
  5. 15 minutes last night, shooting 4 out of 6 and making 5 assists on 0 TO's. Young talent needs to build on confidence, which builds on time. No one should judge Dennis on that long period playing minor minutes inbetween and off the ball allot. Anyone can judge, judging wisely though needs all context available.
  6. I just watched Utah vs Dallas and I have seen Utah a couple of times this year. I mean Derrick Favours is nothing special. Kanter a great backup on the offensive glass. Jefferson and Sap did not "peak" last year. They greatly improved albeit under different teams, but age, exp, and talent wise they could have shown that improvement under Utah as well. I mean Jefferson is something special. Sap is a great starting big, and allstar even. What course Utah could have went instead of tanking. Simple: they do have Hayward and Burke to develop. They did have two above average bigs who shown they did improve this year. So what if they lets say draft Julius Randle, does that make them better than having Big Al and Sap? Wouldnt a competing year not be allot better to develop Hayward and Burke? I think the answers are no and yes. People undersetimate the loss of time when you could have young players developing under a tightly competing team giving its all each game, or have a year where a Hayward and Burke just sputter along not really caring about endresults. People also underestimate long standing players and overestimate all the "future Kobe's" out there, and boy there have been allot of them...
  7. Well rumours only start when you start getting noticed, hence Dennis currently stabilizing his game. I think though its not unfounded. When I look at him out there he does seem like a stubborn kid, but that doesnt mean he doesnt listen and digest what others say. I think up to this stage he could always just flow on offense and defense relying on his talent in lower leagues, and a player like that needs to adjust listening to advise and directions in this vastly different league, specially as a PG. Pencilpusher characters have it easier in that regard, the cocky allot less. But that attitude can also have great advantages. See Jeff Teague and his bleakness....I'll bet he listens to coaches all the time.
  8. I want to remind people though(looking at Utah) when "tanking goes wrong". OK they maybe get a maybe all-star, but they gave up on Millsap and Jefferson. I still dont get these American maths. Maybe its just because Im an European with weird hair.
  9. I thought to put up a thread to congratulate Kyle Korver with his epic record. I think its kind of a big thing from an NBA fanboy POV. I for one missed many seasons due to working schedules and being bad at internet, but this year I have been on top of the NBA. I do remember though way back in the days when still catching allot of games, finding that guy in green & white Dana Barros his record epic. And now Hawks Kyle Korver extended it for prolly another decade to come or maybe ever. And also I wanted to share this spoof with you'll for quite some time now to tell you'll Hawks that Korver in the Dutch language means "Basketeer". As in a man who makes baskets for a living, like as an old proffession from back in the days and when institutes first started handing out last names to everyone, picking whatever seems related to a family, often proffessions families where having, like also Smith etc. I wonder if Kyle knows that. Anyway congrats Kyle Basketeer. Well earned fame.
  10. I dunno what his whereabouts where exactly inside Indianopolis but his father played college ball and Jeff himself majored in Religion. He doesnt seem a streetcat. Lets just put it that way. To me he seems a nice guy and seems introverted and not a natural leader. I never said hes not tough. Without a toughness you dont make the NBA. I said he doesnt carry himself as a tough guy and I think people soon get a false impression for looking so timid and introverted. The whiteboy toughness is just another thing. In the ghettos they value other type of ball, more the skills, dunking etc, and each little hustle isnt that high on the list to impress your mates. People grow up differently valueing and emphazising different things. Its the same in euro football, where all they do in immigrant neigberhoods is doing Panna tricks on concrete, and in the farming village youth clubs its all Hotseknots sliding over the grass. But Im again not talking actual toughness, but rather the impression Teague gives to many people, lacking a mean Ghetto grim. Imma not really all that srs from the get-go, but I think I have a point. Comming from a single Gypsy mom raized that came from a Gypsy hood that makes Compton look like a nice place, and me myself just a workingclass dude staying out of trouble, but still able to have a mean grim whenever its clever. Srsly
  11. No your also a bit to hard on him considering he's not nearly the Hawks biggest problem. This team overall is very low on talent and completely battered up. Its hard for me to expect more from this timid no-real-leader dude and the way he is with all his pro's and cons. Like someone else said he would be great on Miami, Dallas, etc, and like I said hes a nice piece, he's no Magic or Stockton though, and yeah no 2013/2014 season Dragic either.
  12. Well he is what he is. There is no point in glorifying or demonizing Jeff Teague. Hes a great PG in a small pawn.
  13. Hes no Magic Jonhnson and hes no John Stockton, but I hold him for a decent player that doesnt amaze me starting for an NBA team. The Hawks have way bigger problems on other spots. Imma telling ya.
  14. I think Americans sometimes underestimate how the top Euro leagues have grown in their proffesionalism, all while the NBA game became a bit more Euro with the changes in rules and the line-ups that changed accordingly. Euro players have it allot easier to fit in, and it shows in 9 French men alone in the NBA. Specially Spain is a good league if not the best.
  15. I still think he's a great PG and a good piece to have, maybe not "above average" as this is "the golden age of PG's" and so many teams have their star players in PG roles, so whats "average" these days? His facial expression though and body language sure seems lackluster, but I think thats just how he is as a dude. I dont think he actually is lackluster, but he's not an energizer either, which is a PG quality he doesnt have. Shame he didnt grow up in some Ghetto, learning to have toughness and a mean grim on your face. He looks a like a nice introverted intelligent dude, I wouldnt mind my daughter to show up with. But I think thats just how he is with all the pro's and cons.
  16. Well the OP suggested to trade away the 3 exceptional players(OK Teague is in no-mans-land) on the current roster to then suck even more so you can draft one or two hopefully exceptional players. Tell me then how that makes sense roster wise. To me just seems like Youthism. Tell me how the course of the next years wouldnt be more boring than making the playoffs and at least watching the games and hoping your team wins? This team is build for a rebuild, but drafting your way out isnt the only option and its always one with many shaky variables as well while it always seems as guaranteed succes next year when reading some of these posts. While at best it would just mean reaching the second play-off round. On the other hand Hawks could draft a Roy Hibbert, a Lance Stevenson etc and make them work on the Spurs system and a team with players that already know what they are up to, while Atlanta does have some tradable assets and cash. All this tanking talk is nonsense from the actual reality pov and what the Hawks are set out to do.
  17. I dont get these threads, pretending you can suddenly draft players as good as Al, Jeff and Millsap. Maybe over a stretch of 2-3 years. Maybe... Way things are going lately the Hawks might end up with a good pick anyway(I can see this team loosing streak extending for a long-long time), that doesnt have the world on his shoulders and has vets around him also able to raise someones game. I srsly dont see it. Why wait 2-3 years. Thats boring to me. Much more its subhumane from a sportsfan pov.
  18. With Al Green though you can never really know who fathered who. The odds are not even that low fathering with a Misses Green.
  19. That would be just be little bit to awesome, so I wikipedia'd that. You sir have not been been speaking the truth and got me excited over nothing.
  20. I also think that Carrol's hustle is a valuable and underestimated anchor in a very OK Atlanta team-defense, full of small and a bit soft and occasionally old or injured players. A team-defense that shouldnt experiment with more ego and offensive drive on that spot. And really, just like Millsap went under the radar of allot of people playing at the Jazz, Carrol was pretty decent there as well from the POV of his strengths. That he gives us some points is nice, but I really think this team-defense currently needs a modest athletic dude being all over the place on defense. He should almost be traded because of that bow-tie and Urkel glasses outfit though.
  21. Obviously the benefit of hindsight and momentary opportunism might get a nimble mind to feel bitter about this years draft choices, but to maybe make the OP feel better about the future: one of the main concerns on this board regarding Schröder is his shot-selection and shooting at all in of it self. Well look at the last 4 games, hitting 9 out of 14, and 2 for 2 from 3pt range. Giving things time does wonders.
  22. Why people hate the Rockets so much?
  23. I love bikini's. A brazillian man invented them. Men are logical.
  24. Im pretty sure this springs from the mind of a woman at the PR firm. Them and sports. Them and logic. Them and comming up with humor.
  25. I like Dennis plays with the #14 jersey. Thats Johan Cruyff's number, the Jesus Christ of Dutch football quite literally. Dont mind me crazy obsessions, my mom is actually a half Gypsy. We have this in us... edit: its also Nowitzki's number backwards. lol things will turn out right.
