  1. I will admit to being 1 of the Woody bashers on this site. Something hit me as I was reading a post about Marvin maturing as a player and developing into a star. Why do we not give coaches the same developement period? Just want to hear what u guys think.
  2. I just find it hard to believe any young pitcher would not want to listen to mazzone.

  4. I just read on espn that Leo is having some problems with his pitchers in baltimore. It wasnt a big article but just said that 1 pitcher told friends that he would no longer listen to mazzone and another was getting advice from someone else. Makes you wonder. Leo had a great track record here in atlanta. I would love to hear what maddog, glavine, smoltz and company have to say about this.

    Shocked!!

I cant believe that noone here has "qualified" the wins on the western trip yet by stating that the Hawks beat teams with players out due to injury. Suns no Nash, Warriors have a couple of guys out and clipps without brand. I am quite sure that some NBA "expert" analyst will make this point. I am also quite sure that I will get sick to my stomach as i hear it. I dont remember many analyst talking about how many injuries we had when we were going through our losing streak. wins are wins no matter what and I am happy the Hawks are playing well right now. I have to give JSmoove a lot of credit. He is playing so well right now. I think he has a real shot at being an all nba defensive player. He is the model of a young guy that has come into the league and worked his butt off to get better. Every steal, dunk, blocked shot and drive I think of Jay Bilas saying he was a gauranteed bust on draft night. Eat crow Mr. Bilas.
  6. Amen. I dont think anyone is gullable enough to believe that there is zero racism out there but the "race" card is applied waaaaay too much. I am shocked that someone actually took the time to post this nonsense and even more shicked that my dumbazz is responding to it. Next topic, please!
  7. I dont see many wins coming form this lineup. 5 losses for sure.,.Phx, dallas, sa, houston. Nj GS Lac and chitown maybe wins but that might be it. I say at best 4-6 and could slip to 0-10.
  8. I am not sure about Levi browns injury problems but we do need a tackle, I just dont see it being him at this spot. I havent considered Peterson falling to us. That would be an interesting choice. I still favor drafting Branch or Landry. I dont believe the DE's will make it this far down. Either choice will be fione with me I just see branch being a game changer at dt, and there arent many of thos ein the league. If you look at the best defenses around the league they usually have 1 thing in common, 2 great dt's.
  9. This will likely be the choices for the Falcons come draft time. I just cant see them drafting Ginn Jr. I prefer Branch but Landry is the most pressing need(that fits this spot in draft). Thoughts?
  10. errrr.....Blaine Boyer is no lefty power pitcher. I do believe that they braves should be back at the top of the NL again. This is far and away the best bullpen we have ever seen in atlanta. depth and power. JS has effectively shortened the games to 6 innings which should help Smoltz and Hampton. Give credit were credit is due. JS has done an incredible job considering his constraints by our pathetic owners, AOL.
  11. I just saw a mock that had Branch falling to the falcons at 10. If he fell, wow, what a break for atl. I loved grady jackson but he is aging and may not be back anyway. This would be huge pick for the falcons. We were pretty good against the run last year and aweful against the pass so it would make sense that atl draft the best db here but I dont think they could pass on branch. 6'6 331 wow. This will definitley ease the loss of kerney. Babbineaux(sp) could move outside to replace kerney and carrington didnt do a bad job either. I have said that there were 3 players I really wanted atl to draft...Joe Thomas, Calvin Johnson, and Alan Branch. Cross your fingers guys and hope and pray this guy does fall to us just like deangelo did a couple fo years ago.
  12. I think the needs for Atl are 1-OL 2-OL 3-OL 4-DE if Kerney walks(Charles Johnson) 5-Safety 6-Big RB(Bush) 7-ILB The ol must be improved if we are to become an elite team. I like Forney and Mclure and to a lesser extent Weiner. I would be very happy with Landry at 10 and Bush in the 2nd. I would LOVE to get our hands on Charles Johnson, the big bully, but I dont see it happening. I wish we had the luxury of trading Shaub for some 1st day picks. That would make our draft. Whatever we do I trust McKay to get the right people here.
  13. Mike Greenburg and Mike Golic were talking about this very subject this morning on mike and mike. Greeny mentioned that he would rather his team lose if the season was already lost rather than win a few meaningless games. They were originally talking about the nfl but they mentioned that Don Nelson had said that in the nba you are better off winning 25 games than you are winning 45 games. Middle of the pack isnt a good place to be. I agree. I hate for the Hawks to lose games BUT if this team we have right now isnt going to be a title contender then why would we want to be 1st rd doormats again? Remember when we would make the playoffs every year and never get out of the 1st rd? That is exactly what this team with the current talent will do. I want to see this team have a shot at winning it all, whatever the costs. If that means going through 1 more year of losing then so be it. By the way, dont you guys remember the Howard draft? Imagine where we might be now had we not won those games late in the season? Those games meant absolutely NOTHING. We didnt build on them, hell, half the guys that got us those wins were gone the next year. That worked out well. I just dont want to see the same thing happen this year.
  14. If we could do that deal I say go for it. Wiht the #1 we draft Joe Thomas and at 10 we get Laron Landry if Branch is gone. I wouldnt be upset with another trade down out of the #1 to pick up Branch and more picks. I hate to lose Vick but as I have siad before I think it is the best move for the franchise in the long run. However, if the browns are to give us the #3 pick for Shaub I would have to seriously consider that move as well.

    Vick

I dont know about you guys but the fact that he had a water bottle with a hidden compartment in it makes me think he had some weed in it at 1 time or another. Go to any "head shop" or "smoke shop" and you will find things like that. shaving cans with secret bottoms and soda cans with secret bottoms in them. I dont know what he had or didnt have but my money is on the fact that he purchased that bottle for a reason....... That being said I dont villify him for using something that is so widespread in the country BUT I do believe he should have some damn common sense and not try to take something like that onto a plane. That was just plain dumb.
  16. I just read that the braves have also signed craig wilson. Very nice sign. he has had some pretty good yrs. not an allstar player but will be a very nice addition. I am actually excited about this team....too bad I still cant watch them. I said last season that unitl the braves were sold to someone who cares about winning not just about receits, I would not watch them or attend any games. I am so furious that we have to sit by and watch as 2 of the best minds in baseball have to be handcuffed by aol. Damn you AOL, damn you.
  17. wow, I dont believe I would have admitted that my friend. Laroche sealed his fate last season. you knew right then that he would be traded. I think this was a great deal for both teams. the braves now have the best bullpen they have ever had. they ahve shortened game s to 6 innings now. With aging starters and injury plagues starters this was a must. going to need kelly johnson and thorman to really step it up offensivley to replace giles and laroche but this team looks far better than what we had last year.
  18. I agree that Solo should be playing more minutes but for some reason he doesnt see the floor. A few weeks ago he strung a couple really good games together and even had smitty praising him and asking for him to get minutes but he gets a dnp instead. go figure.
  19. I didnt see the game last night, thank God, so I am not sure how he played but he has done a very good job since he has been starting. Not an allstar by any means but he has actually been playing like he cares. He has been hitting the little jumper and playing decent defense. Keep it up.
  20. 1st off I must say that as a UNC fan I might be a little biased. I have been really disappionted in marvin this year just as everyone else has BUT I have to wonder if he will be make the same steps that JSmoove did? If you guys remember JSmoove was public enemy #1 here since he got drafted until this season. Everyone said he couldnt handle the ball, he couldnt shoot and he couldnt defend. Well, I believe he has proved all wrong to some extent. Marvin has only played a seasons worth of basketball. Granted they are the same age smith has the advantage of 1 more year in the league. Would we be better off with Paul or Williams? yes for now. Will marvin get ti together and become the player ALOT of GMs said he would? Time will tell. Unfotunately, we are tired of losing and dont have the patience to wait for it. Not his fault and certainly not ours. The only solution is winning.
  21. I thought this would be a more eventful offseason for the braves but I am happy with what we did, and didnt do. I absolutely love the deal we made with seattle. The 1 thing that has me worried is Andruw Jones. I think it is a foregone conclusion he will be gone after this season. I understand it and I am cool wiht it. I am not cool with just letting him walk without getting some talent to offset his loss. Now, we arent going to get someone who is going to come in here and hit 50 hrs for him but I believe it is a must to use him to replce some of the young talent we have sent out over the last few years.
  22. I dont believe you should ever hope your team loses BUT in the Hawks case it is the best option. We are in need of a center, BADLY. This draft will have one of the best centers to come into the league in a long time. Why not take our chances? We will not make the playoffs. Look at the teams ahead of us and tell me who will drop out? Sure we may turen this thing around and play 500 the rest of the way but what does that get us? confidence? make us feel better about next year? NO! We will not be able to fix our center problem in free agency. We can get a very good pg if need be but no centers. We may get screwed in the lottery but I would rather have a shot than barely miss playoffs and know with 100 certainty that we will not get a top 3 pick. Its a gamble but I believe it is worth it. That being said there is no way in hell that the players or coahcing staff would ever and I MEAN EVER tank games. So, all this talk about tanking is useless. I hope we get to keep our pick this yr. If we do it will be because we just arent a good team not because we tanked.
  23. In true Barry Bonds form he blames it on a teamate. I really hate this bastard. This is from espn's website. NEW YORK -- Barry Bonds failed a test for amphetamines last season and originally blamed it on a teammate, the Daily News reported Thursday. Bonds is still under investigation as to whether he perjured himself when he testified in 2003 that he never knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs. When first informed of the positive test, Bonds attributed it to a substance he had taken from teammate Mark Sweeney's locker, the New York City newspaper said, citing several unnamed sources. "I have no comment on that," Bonds' agent Jeff Borris told the Daily News on Wednesday night. "Mark was made aware of the fact that his name had been brought up," Sweeney's agent Barry Axelrod told the Daily News. "But he did not give Barry Bonds anything, and there was nothing he could have given Barry Bonds." Bonds, who has always maintained he never has tested positive for illegal drug use, is already under investigation for lying about steroid use. A federal grand jury is investigating whether the 42-year-old Bonds perjured himself when he testified in 2003 in the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative steroid distribution case that he never knowingly used performance-enhancing drugs. The San Francisco Giants slugger told a 2003 federal grand jury that he believed his trainer Greg Anderson had provided him flaxseed oil and arthritic balm, not steroids. Under baseball's amphetamines policy, which went into effect last season, players are not publicly identified for a first positive test. A second positive test for amphetamines results in a 25-game suspension. The first failed steroids test costs a player 50 games. Bonds did not appeal the positive test, which made him subject to six drug tests by MLB over the next six months, according to the Daily News. "We're not in a position to confirm or deny, obviously," MLB spokesman Rich Levin told the Daily News. According to the newspaper, Sweeney learned of the Bonds' positive test from Gene Orza, chief operating officer of the Major League Baseball Players Association. Orza told Sweeney, the paper said, that he should remove any troublesome substances from his locker and should not share said substances. Sweeney said there was nothing of concern in his locker, according to the Daily News' sources. An AP message for Sweeney was not immediately returned late Wednesday. The Giants are still working to finalize complicated language in the slugger's $16 million, one-year contract for next season -- a process that has lasted almost a month since he agreed to the deal Dec. 7 on the last day of baseball's winter meetings. The language still being negotiated concerns the left fielder's compliance with team rules, as well as what would happen if he were to be indicted or have other legal troubles. Borris has declined to comment on the negotiations. He didn't immediately return a message from the AP on Wednesday night. The 42-year-old Bonds is set to begin his 15th season with the Giants only 22 home runs shy of surpassing Hank Aaron's career record of 755. Bonds, considered healthy again following offseason surgery on his troublesome left elbow, has spent 14 of his 21 big-league seasons with San Francisco and helped the Giants draw 3 million fans in all seven seasons at their waterfront ballpark. After missing all but 14 games in 2005 following three operations on his right knee, Bonds batted .270 with 26 homers and 77 RBIs in 367 at-bats in 2006. He passed Babe Ruth to move into second place on the career home run list May 28. Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press

    Woody and BK

I have mentioned this before but it bears repeating...When BK was hired he said that he was going to build a long, athletic, young team that could run, basically an exciting team that everyone would enjoy watching. If this is your objective why do you hire Woody? It is painfully obvious that he WILL not run. BK had to know this before he hired him. What gives? I cant wait to get a new coach in here. I believe we have enough talent to at least compete for a playoff spot in the east. Sure, in retrospect there have been some major draft blunders but we could still be a better team than we are currently. I wonder if maybe tis better to wait until the offseason to hire said coach so we can keep our pick, or at least have a better shot at keeping our pick. We have some capspace so go out and get a pg like Bibby or Billups and get some interior defense in the draft. As far as what coach we hire I would like to see Rick Adelman. If I remember correctly the Kings were a pretty exciting team when he was there. Maybe hiring a suns assistant wouldn't be a bad idea.

I saw it on espn insider. I believe it was a Sekou rumor.
