OMFG Hunter has never once come up with a loose rebound if someone else gets their hands on it. Leads to a Brunson 3. You have to be kidding me.

We are playing great defense. Just struggling keeping Robinson off the glass.

He can't shoot anymore. He's my favorite player in the world but his shot has been broken for over a full season. His size never seemed to be an issue, but now it's just like he seems so small out there. Anytime he shoots I cringe.

Hunter just never secures loose rebounds. Re-watch that 2nd Capela missed FT, Hunter had that rebound and they just took it from him. He has to be stronger with it.

I like this version of Trae. Get everyone involved, use your passing skills. He just had a few assists in a row where I was totally expecting him to jack up a brick and he made the extra pass, leading to an open shot.

Official Game Thread: Hawks at Thunder (8 PM EST Tip!)
AtLaS replied to lethalweapon3's topic in Homecourt
Trae needs to start making shots or stop shooting. His shot has been broken for over a full season now. Until that corrects he needs to dial it back and focus on getting others involved.- 394 replies

Adding to that, our best player and top scorer is shooting 32% FG and 25% from three, and we are STILL a top 5 offense so far this year. That's how gifted a playmaker Trae is. Focus on that. The shots will start to fall eventually.

This is the future Trae if we want to have true, consistent postseason success, IMO. Play more like his favorite player Steve Nash. We don't need 30 ppg and him shooting 25 times per game. He's so gifted as a passer. If he is focused on getting others involved he raises the floor of everyone around him, and they are going to feed off that. I don't want him running pure heliocentric, Luka/Harden style offense. Remember those Suns teams? Every year they were adding new guys to the rotation and they just fit right in b/c Nash was such a great facilitator. And he was a pass first guy so everyone felt involved on offense. It raises morale. I've played on teams with a ballhog and it's demotivating on offense. You feel as you never get the ball so when you do you want to jack up a shot. But the team isn't cohesive. Right now we are. Trae's shot attempts are the lowest in 3 years, his turnovers are the lowest in his career and steals are highest in his career. His shot just isn't falling, yet. When he gets back to career average shooting #'s this team is going to be truly dangerous.

Down 20 and Poole throwing cute lobs, on the road? I'd be pissed if I was a teammate/coach/fan.

Jalen Johnson may be better than De'Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish
AtLaS replied to TheNorthCydeRises's topic in Homecourt
He's so much better than Collins (post injured finger) it's crazy. His overall impact is huge. Better defensively, better passer, better ballhandler. Addition by subtraction. -
100%. He's not good enough to lead a team deep in the playoffs, nor is he a great leader in general. But if he's 2nd/3rd option he would be great. Can you imagine swapping KAT for Capela at the 5? The lane would be wide open for Trae/DJ/JJ slashes. If they collapse then kick to him for open 3's. People crap on the guys that haven't won anything. But the reality is noone has won anything UNTIL they win something. No superstar in their prime who has championship pedigree is going to be available in trade, and if they are we'd have to sell the farm to get them.

Just watch Capela the first 2 minutes of the below video. I think Capela is way out of shape. Misses one of the easiest bunny dunks ever, and almost misses a 2nd. Just watch him the whole first 2 minutes, he is just laboring around the court. This is in the first quarter too. This version of Capela is a liability.

Trae played really well IMO, his shot is just still broken. Its early in the season though, he just needs a big game hitting from deep. Keep leading the team with his playmaking it will come around.

More 3's, the math (is a 30 footer a terrible shot?)
AtLaS replied to thecampster's topic in Homecourt
Ehh, not sure taking more threes leads to more fouls. But you are correct it stretches the D and can open up the lanes a bit more. There is one big downside though. Missing threes often leads to fast breaks/quick buckets on the other end before you can get fully back on D. I would love to see defensive stats after a made bucket, vs after a missed bucket. The more threes you take, the more shots you will miss overall. When the opposing team has to take the ball out of the net, everyone is back on D and fully setup ready to defend. Not the case when you brick a long 3 -

Trae needs to get it together, period. Cant be shooting 20% from the field. Love Trae, but right now the criticism is warranted.- 465 replies

Official Game Thread: Hawks at Hornets (7 PM EST) -- The Season Opener!
AtLaS replied to lethalweapon3's topic in Homecourt
I like it honestly. 5 straight years, 5 different NBA champions. Hopefully will be our turn soon. I hope our best shot wasn't in 21, we really could have won it all if Trae didn't get hurt in game 3. We were up 5 in the 4th quarter and he already had like 30+. Would have went up 2-1, and we won game 4 on top of that. We would've had 3 chances to eliminate them and we could've absolutely beat the Suns.- 670 replies

AtLaS replied to lethalweapon3's topic in Homecourt
I hope not. We still barely lost and we shot 17% from three on the road. If we shoot just 30% from three (still bad) i think we win pretty easily. I can't see us shooting as bad as we did last night very often.- 670 replies

Official Game Thread: Hawks at Hornets (7 PM EST) -- The Season Opener!
AtLaS replied to lethalweapon3's topic in Homecourt
The volatility of our shooting gives us a very high ceiling, and a very low floor. Because of this, there are no guaranteed W's on our schedule even if a team is load managing it's top 4 players. The Hornets were very clearly the inferior team but we just couldn't make a damn shot. I thought we got good looks for the most part, we only had 12 turnovers. Should've been a fairly boring 10-15 point win if we just shot average. We will have plenty of these games this season. Beat a top team, then lose to a bad team when we can't shoot. Hopefully we minimize the amount of games where we shoot 10% from three.- 670 replies

Hornets suck and we can't beat them. They are so clearly an inferior team. Once again, we give a team confidence because we can't make anything.- 670 replies
