  1. Thanks for the info. Some interesting games tonight: Conley vs. Yi (the other two board favourites for the #3 pick) Sergio/Webster/Aldridge/Oden vs. Rondo/Green/Big Baby/Ex-Hawk Glyniadakis Ex-Georgia based players Williams & Young vs. the international Spurs guys Saer Sene vs. Diop
  2. The Hawks were one of the best rated teams in NBA Live 94(?) (the team with Ehlo, Willis, Blaylock, Keefe, Augmon, Ferrell, etc.) + TLC was my favourite music act and they were based in Atlanta => Hawks fan 4 life
  3. Turkish guys on a german message board (many turkish people live in Germany that's why turkish sports are discussed there) think he kinda sucks right now: Quote: "Cenk Akyol flew to the USA and wants to go to the Hawks?? Too bad I'd say. He didn't impress for EFES this year. He was demoted to the 2nd team two times. This year he hurt EFES' play in Euroleague and in turkish league. Cenk Akyol has no chance in the USA. He should stay in Turkey and try to improve." "Cenk is simply a pubertal boy that had performance issues because of relationship problems with his girlfriend. I look at Semih and Oguz, and then I look at Cenk...it's a difference like night and day. He doesn't stagnate, he developes from a top talent into an anti basketball player. We'll see what happens. I'll remain pessimistic concerning his future." Cenk was also nominated for the turkish national team and the turkish users are quite angry about it, here are some comments: (There was not a single positive comment ^^) Quote: "If Hakan Demirel and Cenk Akyol are on the 12 men roster, then I expect nothing from this European Championship." "I can understand that Tanjevic wants to form a good team for the World Championships 2010, but it's wrong to reserve a place for players like Hakan Demirel & Cenk Akyol and knowingly send a weaker squad to the EM. I like Cenk and the EM could be a chance for him to regain his old strength but he simply doesn't deserve it." "I hope Cenk and Hakan are not on the 12 men roster, they don't deserve it." "How can you nominate a loser like Cenk for the national squad." "Cenk Akyol no idea about basketball, how can you take such a loser to Spain." Here are his stats and game log from the turkish league, it's far from impressive.
  4. I think we'll never see Andersen in a Hawks uni, he's winning lots of titles with CSKA and is earning good money, the only reason for him to go to the NBA would be to prove to himself that he can succeed there. Concerning Cenk I read on a german message board (many turkish people live in Germany that's why turkish sports are discussed there) that Cenk flew to the USA and wants to try to make the Hawks roster, that message was posted on June 8th 2007. Here are some comments from turkish users about that: Quote: "Cenk Akyol flew to the USA and wants to go to the Hawks?? Too bad I'd say. He didn't impress for EFES this year. 5. Quote: Actually, if Yi plays on an East Coast team (US!), the game times would be much more reasonable than it would be if it was in California. I think China is 14 or 15 hours ahead of us, so if our games were at 7 PM, that means they'd see the games at 9 AM their time. HOWEVER, if he played in Los Angeles for instance, there's about an 11 hour difference. So if games started at 7 PM Pacific team, people in China would see it at 6 AM or so. No. 7 PM in ATL is 8 AM in China. 7 PM in LA is 11 AM in China.
  6. Quote: KB said it in another thread. I would love to see a video of an actual game, for 10 games from buzzer to buzzer. To see how he plays when it's not a highlight and how he plays defense. At least see if it looks like has the ABILITY to play post defense. It's like when you get a new job. They can tell you the job description but until you see what you're going to actually be spending your time that day from 9-5, you don't quite feel comfortable. In another thread I posted a link to a forum where you can download CBA playoff games including the finals, but none of you seem to have checked it out, so here's the link again: link
  7. By the way I just found this little comment: Quote: "SI.com's Chris Mannix reports that Del Harris, the former Chinese National Team coach and longtime NBA front-office man, said that he considers Yi Jianlian "draftable, but not an impact player." Does anybody know if the following is still true and China really has so much to say where he goes? I thought China had become a little less strict. Quote: "NBA Draft prospect Yi Jianlian is expected to be the next big thing from China. He’s not as dominate as Yao Ming, and clearly not as polished offensively. But where Yao was a giant among NBA players, Yi has been dubbed the Chinese Jordan, because of his all-every-thing athletic game. The mock drafts show him as a top ten talent. There is little question Yi’s upside is tremendous, especially with NBA coaching and development – the kid can jump out of the building. The one thing a lot of pundits are overlooking about Yi is the Chinese influence. Unlike most foreign players, Yi is the property of China, and just as Yao Ming was in 2002 – Yi’s future team will be influenced by China. The Rockets had to do a lot of persuading and bargaining to get Yao in Houston. China wanted Yao in a large Chinese market, and Houston had to do a lot of selling to get China to relent some of their demands. Sure Houston could have drafted Yao, but China never had to let him come to the Rockets, and there were subtle hints that could happen. It is expected that China will have a similar plan for Yi. So while Yi may be a top 10 talent, China may make it hard for a smaller market team like Milwaukee, Charlotte and Minnesota to draft Yi, and they may also have concerns on where Yi fits into the rotation. China will not send Yi to the NBA to sit on the bench in a small market. Despite the tremendous progress the NBA has made with China, Yi is still an owned asset of China, and they will have a tremendous amount of influence on where he plays next year." Hmm, Yi at #3, Noah at #11, we'd have the skinniest "center" duo in the league.
  8. Sorry to doublepost, but I can't edit my last post. I just looked at some of their profiles from last year and my highlights are: Adam Morrison Comparison: Larry Bird [...]Plays hard on defense[...] JJ Redick Comparison: Drazen Petrovic Saer Sene Comparison: Dikembe Mutombo (I could swear a certain poster on here gets laughed at alot because he thinks Sene could be a Mutombo like player )
  9. They even say that he's a SF/PF tweener but too big to play the 3 adequatly. Anyway draftnet is not exactly accurate with their profiles and ratings. NBA Ready Oden 8 Yi 8 Post Skills Oden 7 Yi 8 Hawes 10 Seriously. I happen to know a guy that works for them (Stefan Lorenz) and to my knowledge he's not a professional scout, he's just a guy that watches alot of basketball and posts on message boards. This is also the site that had Andriuskevicius, Aleksandrov and Ohlbrecht as the number one players of their drafts for years.
  10. Quote: Quote: No, not even close. Really? Who was better? Did you know Kukoc singe-handedly kept his team in the game vs the Dream Team? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZBLAP275ho If he's not the greatest international player ever he's certainly near the top Nowitzki, Sabonis, Petrovic are clearly the top three. Galis and Stojakovic are better too I'd say. Then comes a group with Kukoc, Djordjevic, Bodiroga, Gasol, Cosic, Koraw, Below, Marculionis, Fucka, Mutombo and many more I forgot or don't know about (I don't know if Olajuwon counts as an American or Nigerian, homers could argue that Danilovic and Schrempf belong to that group too). On their way into that group are probably Yao, Ginobili & Parker and Rubio will most likely be there is he continues to progress. There is no way that one could argue that Kukoc is/was better than the first three, absolutely no way.
  11. Quote: Quote: In his same link the player who he is compared to is....drumroll... Toni Kukoc. One of the all time great centers. He's arguably the best international player of of all-time. No, not even close.
  12. Europe China I know most American basketball fans use 'Euro' for any non North American player but it is annoying to any person from there. Comparing European basketball with Chinese basketball is just wrong. The CBA is very weak, it's not even the best Asian league. However Yi did better than Bargnani did in Italy and Europe, but then again the difference in league quality is very high. I posted Yi's stats from the last World Championship and they were nothing impressive. Yi's stats from CBA finals game 1-4 (posted on a Yao Ming forum ): game 1 Yi 24 pts, 8 reb Wang 22 pts, 8 reb game 2 Yi 19 pst, 14 reb Wang Zhizhi 9 pts, 8 reb game 3 Yi 20 pts, 7 reb, 6-16 fg Wang 27 pts, 12 reb, 10-17 fg game 4 Yi 19 pts, 9 reb, 7-11 fg Wang 34 pts, 15 reb, 10-18 fg (stats from game 5 weren't posted or I missed them) So Yi can't seem to handle Wang Zhizhi, the ex-Dallas player, on defense but some guys here think, that he can come here, start at center and play good defense. (you can download CBA playoff games including in finals in this thread) CBA stats (from asia-basket): scoring 1. Anthony Myles 32.1 2. Gabe Muoneke 31.6 3.Tang Zhengdong 28.1 4. Brandon Crump 27.4 5. Wang Zhizhi 26.6 ?. Yi Jianlian 24.8 (4th best chinese) rebounds 1.Brandon Crump 14.4 2.Babakar Camara 13.6 3.Soumaila Samake 13.5 4.Chris Porter 12.9 5. Herve Lamizana 11.4 5. Yi Jianlian 11.4 (best chinese) Comment from an asia-basket writer: "[...]This year, similar propects in China's 6-10 Yi Jianlian and 6-9 Sun Yue become eligible for the 2007 NBA Draft, one of the deepest drafts in recent history. These two prospects are different then the previous Chinese players, mainly because they are widely coveted for their perimeter and ball handling skills rather then post moves and interior defense.[...]" Maybe Yi can become a good NBA player but please guys don't fool yourself, he'll not be a NBA center.

    Question

Quote: Quote: This has probably been answered in some other post and I think I'm wrong anyway but just want to check. I'm assuming that the pick we owe Phoenix next year basically has no protection so we're definately trading it to them next draft? Doesn't the NBA state that you can't trade 1st rounders two years in a row? So my question is, are we allowed to trade this years pick? I'm assuming we are otherwise BK wouldn't be mentioning trade in conversations with media but just wanted the low down. I hope we can't trade it, I'm just not comfortable trading top 3 picks. Last time we lost Gasol and got SAR which didn't really work out. I can't think of many teams that have done well out of trading a top 3 pick. In fact it rarely happens which says a bit. It's a great asset, I say keep it. Yi looks good to me. We can trade #11 but not #3. However, after we select #3 we can trade the rights of the selected player. I believe I'm right on that. I think we can trade the #3 before we pick a player (although it doesn't make much difference. "In addition, teams are restricted from trading away future first round draft picks in consecutive years. This is called the "Ted Stepien Rule." Stepien owned the Cavs from 1980-83, and made a series of bad trades that cost the Cavs several years' first round picks. As a result of Stepien's ineptitude, teams are now prevented from making trades which might leave them without a future first-round draft pick in consecutive years. This rule applies only to future first round picks. For example, if this is the 2005-06 season, then teams can trade their 2006 first round pick without regard to whether they had a 2005 pick, since their 2005 pick is no longer a future pick. But they can't trade away both their 2006 and 2007 picks, since both are future picks. Teams sometimes work around this rule by trading first round picks in alternate years. In addition, teams are required to have only a first round pick, and not necessarily their first round pick. So teams may trade away their own future picks in consecutive years if they have another team's first round pick in one of those years."
  14. Quote: Check out the other video on youtube there of him vs Gasol. Gasol posterizes him on one end and then Yi returns the favor by cutting through almost their entire team on the strong side to slash his way to the rim and DUNKS it himself. If you look at the time and score you'll see that Yi's dunk was first. Also Gasol's dunk was against number 12, Yi is number 11. Plus this game was only a friendly game, so both teams hardly tried their best, it was either the game in Cordoba where Yi had 13 pts and 3 reb (Spain won 96-49) or the game in Castellon three days later where Yi had 6 pts (Spain won 97-63). I'm very sceptical about Yi, cause the Chinese league is very weak to my knowledge, it's not even the best asian league, and Yi's play during the last World Championships was nothing impressive: vs. Italia 19 min, 9 pts, 9 reb, 3 blk, 2-6 fg (69-84 loss) vs. Slovenia 5 min, 2 pts, 0 reb (78-77 win) vs. USA 24 min, 13 pts, 7 reb, 4 to, 5-9 fg (90-121 loss) vs. Greece 22 min, 9 pts, 5 reb, 4-5 fg (64-95 loss) vs. Puerto Rico 28 min, 4 pts, 11 reb, 2-10 fg (87-90 loss) vs. Senegal 8 min, 0 pts, 2 reb (100-83 win) He shot 41.2% for the whole tournament. His playing was very inconsistent and it seems like everytime he didn't play much China won. He's still only 19 (if the rumors that he was born in 1984 are false) so he has lots of time to improve and could become another Gasol or Dirk, but he could just as easily become another Skita, Andriuskevicius or Wang Zhizhi, the only thing that seems for certain is that he's definitely not a NBA center.
  15. CSKA won 94-75 and therefore won the 3 team tournament. Anderson finished with 9 points (4-8 FG, 1-2 FT) and 6 rebounds. I guess he could be a solid NBA backup big (maybe very solid), but he didn't show me anything to believe that he could be more than that, so I think it wouldn't make sense for both parties if he joined the Hawks. The Clippers looked very poor in this game, in the 2nd and 3rd quarter they were very frustrated and in the 4th they didn't care anymore, it was kinda embarressing for them, I know that the NBA season hasn't started yet but the season in Russia hasn't started yet either, so I think that they should really not lose that high and be that dominated.
  16. There is a live box score on the CSKA site (http://www.cskabasket.com/?lang=en). Andersen has 8 points and 6 rebounds right now. His passing is quite fantastic for a big man. He just scored with a nice fallaway jumper. 2 of the 3 refs are from the NBA and it kinda shows, but CSKA is leading easily right now, 67-52.
  17. CSKA leads 52-39 at halftime versus the Clippers. David Andersen started the game at PF. Up until now I can say that he has a very nice midrange shot and makes some good intelligent passes, haven't seen many inside moves from him. On defense CSKA plays a 2-3 zone so it's kinda hard to judge his defense, he tries to block some shots but is rather unsuccessful. Unfortunately the live box score on nba.com doesn't seem to work so I don't know how many points & rebs he currently has. Right now I'd say that the Hawks don't really need him, he seems more like a finesse PF/C than a banger (altough the commentator said, that his strength is around the basket), but I've only seen one half, so I could be totally wrong. Theodoros Papaloukas & Anton Ponkrashov are looking very good for CSKA. I don't know if you can see the NBA Europe games in the US, but if you do and you want to check out Andersen, CSKA plays again on Tuesday (vs. Maccabi) and on Wednesday (vs. the winner of Suns-76ers).
  18. His name is Aaron Durley, 13 years old, 6'8 and 256 pounds.
  19. We started with a roster set from the 2004-05 season so people from that draft year are a little misrated (e.g. Smoove can't really block, Ivey is a very good backup PG, etc.). Overall some players are rated too high, some too low, but that will always be the case with theses kinda games. Since that season every draft contained players from the college sim, so these players are all fake. CPU teams seem to like to fill their rosters with veterans so the Rogers', McCoy's, Glover's always have a chance to get a roster spot as long as there are CPU teams.
  20. I'm the co-commish of a NBA & a college basketball online league and since it seems some of you people are interested in those kinda games I thought that maybe some of you would like to join one of the leagues. A little problem might be that we're using a german message board but we're all able to speak english so there shouldn't be too many language problems (of course we would make fun of you in german all the time ) and I think it would be fun if we had some members from the USA who know a thing or two about basketball, cause usually our new members are quite young people that often don't have any real basketball knowledge and leave after a short while, but luckily the majority of the GMs have been there for quite a while, so it's really always the same 2-4 teams that have often changing GMs. NBA sim There are currently three teams without a GM: Sacramento, Memphis & Seattle For simming purposes we use Total Pro Basketball 2005 from Grey Dog Software, you don't have to own the game, because you can get all the important things from the website and extra files that we upload. Each player is rated in many categories and you as a GM are able to set your lineup, sub matrix und tactics, you can make trades, sign free agents, draft, etc.. You can take a look at the teams via the standings page, the players have their own sites here, there is also an extra file with some extra information about the players. During regular season we sim three times a week and each time we sim 1 week game time. You send in your lineup & tactics via mail using this form or if you own the game you can simply send in your exported team file. We're currently in our 6th season (two with the first TPB, then we restarted with TPB 2005) so you don't have to be afraid that the league will vanish anytime soon. We're currently ~68 games into the season, but you can immediately step in anyway. college sim Only six teams are taken: Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Maryland, Temple, Texas & Georgetown We're simming with Total College Basketball from Grey Dog Software. For the college sim you have to own the game cause the html export contains only the team pages. Players are rated in almost the same aspects that the TPB 2005 players are rated in and the senior class (+declaring underclassmen) are used for the NBA sim's draft. You as the coach first make your own coaching profile where you set your strengths (e.g. offense, recruiting, scouting, defense, develoment) and character aspects (e.g. calm/hotheaded, discipline fanatic). During the course of the season you will be able to recruit, make lineups, sub matrix, tactics, set your training, redshirt players, get transfer players, etc.. The college website is located here. You send in your lineups & recruiting via the export file the game creates. We're 1-3 games away from the conference tourneys, you'll have to wait till the end of the season to take control of your team. If you'd like to join one of the leagues you can contact me via: mail: ScorpiGol@aol.com MSN: bigdirty410@hotmail.com AIM: ScorpiGol ICQ: 219473469
  21. I'm using the rules from the german FIFA site and there it says: 1. number of points 2. goal difference 3. number of goals scored and if all these 3 things are equal among the teams then it goes to things like goals against each other and so on. And I never heard of a playoff game on neutral ground during a tournament, that sounds kinda silly, they don't have any time for things like that. I think I figured it out, the rules you used are the rules for the World Cup qualification only, then the playoff game makes sense, but for the World Cup itself it uses different rules. What does puzzle me is that in the pdf you gave, it says on page 32 Quote: (a) greater number of points obtained in all the group matches; If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above criterion, their ranking shall be determined as follows: (b) greater number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned; © goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned; (d) greater number of goals scored in the group matches between the teams concerned; (e) goal difference in all the group matches; (f) greater number of goals scored in all the group matches; (g) drawing lots by the Organising Committee for the FIFA World CupTM. But on the this document from the official FIFA site (http://www.fifa.com/documents/static/regul...ulations_EN.pdf) & the World Cup site (http://eur.i1.yimg.com/eur.yimg.com/i/eu/fifa/regen.pdf), it says for World Cup 06 on page 40 Quote: The ranking of each team in each group will be determined as follows: a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches; b) goal difference in all group matches; c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches. If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings will be determined as follows: d) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned; e) goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned; f) greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned; g) drawing of lots by the Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup™. That's strange, why do they have two different rule sets out there for the same competition? Well guess we both could be right.
  22. Quote: For France, we need to win. If we win, and you guys do not tie, we advance with whoever wins your game. But if you tie and we win, then it gets weird for us. -if you guys (SK-SWI) tie 0-0, we advance -if you guys tie 2-2, we're out -if you guys tie 1-1 and we win by 3 or more, we advance -if you guys tie 1-1 and we win by 1, we're out (this scares me) -if you guys tie 1-1 and we win 2-0, there's a playoff between us and switzerland -if you guys tie 1-1 and we win by 2 and score more than 2 goals (3-1, 4-2...) we advance I believe that's wrong. - if SK & SWI tie and FRA wins by a 2+ margin => FRA & SWI - if SK & SWI tie 0-0 and FRA wins 1-0 => SWI & SK - if SK & SWI tie 0-0 and FRA wins 2-1 => SWI & the winner of a drawing by the OK of the World Cup - if SK & SWI tie 0-0 and FRA wins 3-2 => SWI & FRA - if SK & SWI tie 1-1 and FRA wins 1-0 => SWI & SK - if SK & SWI tie 1-1 and FRA wins 2-1 => SWI & SK - if SK & SWI tie 1-1 and FRA wins 3-2 => SWI & winner of drawing - if SK & SWI tie 1-1 and FRA wins 4-3 => SWI & FRA - if SK & SWI tie 2-2, FRA has to score 4-3 to even get in the drawing I'm pretty sure that's right.
  23. Nowitzki wasn't selected by Dallas, he was drafted by Milwaukee, they then made the trade Traylor Nowitzki & Garrity.
  24. Donta has played in three games up until now: 1st) 11 min, 2 pts (0-0 fg, 2-2 ft), 4 reb, 2 to 2nd) 17 min, 2 pts (1-5 fg), 1 ast, 2 reb, 4 stl, 3 to 3rd) 22 min, 7 pts (3-7 fg, 0-1 3fg, 1-1 ft), 3 ast, 2 reb, 1 blk, 3 to
