Also going to post this here.  Look how well correlated team salary and team success is in the NBA.

Hawks are 22nd in record and 22nd in Salary.  LOL  If Messy Ressy actually wants to win, he'll open up the checkbook.

    NBA Salary vs Record.jpg

Thank you for this.  We are a feeder franchise until we pay to play with the true contenders.

FU!!!! 31!!!! Oh you fck!!! Wait’ll you get near 50, it’s a frickin breakdown every night. 😂

I don’t tell @kg01 this but sometimes after Hawks games I go to the bathroom 🚽 and cry 😢.

ps Planning my 50th bday party. Hoping to have it in Atlanta and attending a Hawks game. That’s the plan!

    Go Hawks!!!

If you do this we should make it our next Hawksquawk get together at a game.  @Mikey or @Sothron y’all gonna have to talk to Ressler about giving all of us Squawkers a discount like back in the day when we went and the owners were trying to find Diesel.

yep.  That douche Rick Carlisle literally said the Hawks were wrong to fire him after all the great work LP did for the democratic party.

Having political stances make you popular in sports is dumb.

LP made a bad mistake in his role as a steward of the Hawks.  Should have listened to his Grandma and just said nothing if he had nothing good to say about his own player.  No doubt in my mind that many immature young players have benefited from time around successful vets as in the national team format.  LP could have done himself and Trae a favor by supporting Trae's candidacy but I suspect he saw Trae's warts every day and wanted to make sure he didn't look bad to Pops.  I would hope that LP has learned a few lessons over time and would make a different decision if he had the chance to do it over again.

Whatever quotes from other coaches about how wrong it was for Atlanta to fire a coach who had lost his team and was struggling, it is no coincidence that no team has hired him since.  We are years from his termination and I don't think he has gotten close to getting back to a head coaching role and that says everything given how many coaches get second, third, etc. chances.

Hill is just a phony who is now in a position for which he is not qualified.  Nothing good to say about him.  What a disappointment.

As Shakes used earlier as a description, Grant Hill is a grifter.  How he is doing it again with the Orioles.  He is going to be like Scrooge McDuck soon and not have to do anything:  he is even terrible at being the “face” of the ownership group.  At least Magic Johnson is charismatic.

I'm going to add that this all star snub is squarely on the Hawks organization.   I know we've debated the financial merits of what the Hawks are doing but having competent depth at the 3&4 we wouldn't have cratered so hard when JJ and Hunter went down with injuries.

Yes.  Why are we so terrible at marketing?  It should be a full court press (see what I did there!?!) on getting Trae in every year.  More money for the owners, more exposure for the team, Trae is happier, and TNT is next door.  Blows my mind.

I think he just has some influential connections among the coaching community and they have had his back and dragged Trae as a result.  This despite the fact that it is pretty much unheard of for any coach to undermine his own player the way LP did with Trae.  Talk about stabbing someone in the back and then pretending to be the victim.

After that all came out I am not a fan of the guy at all.  Same with Grant Hill.  Support your team and your players.  If it was an Isaiah Rider situation I could see it but Trae is not that despite what some may say.

If you are asking about LP's community involvement being the reason his firing was a big issue but Griffin's isn't, I would say it has to do with the combination of the support of Pops for LP and the lack of respect for Atlanta.  Pops came out swinging in a "how dare a team as ****y as Atlanta can my guy" and others piled on.

That is more what I was asking.  I just can’t understand why LP is so loved by other coaches other than the social justice stances that garnered a lot of positive attention publicly and, I am surmising, privately in coaching circles.

…or they all just hate Trae that much.

LP bad talked Trae to coaches regarding the foul stuff and he didn't have his back regarding Team USA, encouraged them not to select him in both instances.

That's where this started. Then when LP got fired they most likely laid it at Trae's feet. The coaches association had much to say about LPs firing, but have not heard a peep regarding Griffin.

Do you think it may have to do with his community involvement a few years back where he got so much positive press?

Get well soon. I got food poisoning and it's ruined me. My body is in so much pain. I used to be able to shrug it off but not anymore. I break into cold sweats and struggle to move of late. It's bad

Hopefully it passes quickly.  As others have said, really push the hydration.

Two updates while I can, one hawks other is personal:

Personal: both Mrs. Sothron and myself have a real nasty bout of the flu. We took our flu shots back in October so hopefully it helps. If I'm not around as much this is why.

Hawks: It is looking like the team is going to wait until the offseason for trades. Bey is the name to watch to move before the deadline. Quin's statement about keeping DJ and building around him and Trae is legit and not just a FO tactic to improve his trade value.

The flu has been really bad this year.  But I have noticed that people who have gotten their flu shot generally have not gotten as sick overall.

And for the team, I am glad they are not willing to sell low.

All I want to see is Trae play with an ultra aggressive front court that’s long and athletic with some size.

if we can get half of that, Trae can win here.

still my goal.  The little red one even looks like Trae.

Y'know....  There's a time and place for resetting.  Just like there's a time to push a young team to start winning.  In both cases, it's like we moved too soon.  I'll never abandon the Squawk though.  The reality is, this place will be far more interesting than anything they put on the court.  I'll just go 99% lurker mode.

Can’t go full lurker mode.  You are too thoughtful of a poster.  Just need to spend more time in the Lounge.  We need to strike up (or resurrect) some good threads there.

Well then I would have to say that Quinn gets it.

Build this thing like the Bad Boy Pistons and surround Zeke, I mean Trae, with size, physicality, and toughness, and let Trae go to work.

We are already seeing him transform in to a scrappy and timely defensive playmaker despite his size.

As long as these big dudes can hit an outside shot, we will be just fine. JJ unlocks this whole thing. He has the playmaking ability that we can put on the court with Trae and not lose anything. Trae and the goons, I love it.

I am going to keep posting this GIF, until it becomes true.

Still need one more very good starter that can defend the perimeter well.  Also OO starting at center is probably iffy, but I would want to see him in that role for a lot of games first.  Rebounding would be the biggest concern imo, particularly against teams that have guys like mitchell robinson cleaning up offensive boards.

    Or that superstar Drummond.

    Yes, definitely!

Yeah, he has done some more stuff off ball, but I am assuming DJ thought he would be functioning as the primary ball handler more than he has been when Trae is on the court.  I think there was either a miscommunication or a misunderstanding of them pairing up.  Oh well, DJ isn't some negative asset so we should get back good value for him and take another path.

38% shooting on 30+ ft 3 pointers, by the way.

It was above 40% from that range.

I thought I had seen the 40% somewhere.  Corner threes would be great but spacing at the top of the key for bombs is nice too at that clip.  I wish we had a low post presence to pass out to Trae for catch and shoots.  That would help off ball a lot.  Right now too much standing around from everyone.  At least with someone down low who can work it would open up the 3pt line for everyone.

We don't have the same sources and in general don't speak together first before we share what we've heard.

My information about the Pels trying to consolidate a trade with us for Murray is recent as in the last week. We tried talking to them about Zion/Ingram in the offseason.

    Is campster still around?

Just tank the season already while we still have picks...

    Maybe we get lucky...

Im so over this era Hawks tbh

A soft rebuild is ok by me.

I dont think theirs one player available whos gonna make us that much better unfortunately..

    .

Ive been over this Trae era Hawks, but still support them.. But yeah. At least JJ is back to keep me watching...

Team is just too damn small.. Been saying it for years.. If they arent gonna put size around TRae they might as well trade him..
