  1. I know I dont post very often, but I have read almost every thread over the past couple of years (lack of time plus I just like to read opinions of the folks here). If you all dont mind, I would like to take Memphis seeing as I have a little more time this summer. Thanks in advance and I am looking forward to the Mock if it happens.
  2. If the hawks actually do manage to get the first pick in the draft, I might trade for #3 and #13, but there is no way I would give anything more than the first pick for those two. The only way I would add anything else to that trade would be to throw in someone like DRobs or Delk or even our late 2nd rounder and pick up another high second rounder from the bobcats. Just because we are the hawks does not mean that we should ask for less than what any other team would ask for. All this talk will be moot, however, if the hawks do not get #1 or get #1 and decide Bogut (or possibly someone else) is just too good to pass up. Also, I seriously doubt that the hawks will pick up Ray Allen (although that would be great) or that Deron will fall to #13. Dally is a possibility, though.
  3. Sorry it has been so long since my last post, but I have not had much time recently. I have managed to read most everything, I just have not had time to reply. Anyways, down to business. I actually got to watch the last few games and I think Diaw has a player that he can be paired up with in Delk. Those two seem to play really well together and it allows the Hawks to keeper a taller lineup on the court. It would be sad to lose a good basketball player just because the coach cannot make it work. Diaw has performed respectably, and I for one, would like to see Diaw and Delk, along with Drobs, to come into the game together more often. Off topic a little bit here, (and I know I am going to get someone upset with me because of the way things have been around here since Walker came) but I really hope that Walker gets traded before the deadline. I have a feeling that when he gets traded (hopefully) that the team will start playing much better team oriented basketball. I know that he is apparently a great locker room leader and all, but from watching the games, he does not seem to make any of the other players around him better. I would much rather finish the season watching players that will actually run an offense unselfishly and play without having to constantly scowl (I am actually worried that his face might get stuck like that). I know this is getting long, but I feel that I need to close by saying that I miss the good old days when I first started reading this site (before the Big Dog trade) and people came here to talk about the team, and not just discuss the life story and inner feelings of one player. This is sad, but I actually miss some of the basketball discussions (or arguments, whichever you prefer) that used to keep my attention and made me want to read every sentence written. Now it seems like I skip at least 25% of posts because I already know the topic.
  4. Hello everybody. I have been reading the thoughts posted on this site for the past two years, but most here probably do not know who I am because I have rarely posted (Weez might remember talking to me, though, and btw Weez, I really appreciate the help and I may need to ask for it again b/c I am going into my Junior year and need to pick a med school soon). I truly believe this has to be one of the best messageboards on the net and I would like to thank the people who have kept this board going (I remember when this board was in trouble financially) and for the faithful poasters (i.e. Diesel, Traceman, Wretch, Chillz) even when the team was in the dumps. Also, I would like to give a special thanks to Jaywalker for his faithful, honest, and heartfelt coverage of the Hawks and for Greymule's consistently upbeat attitude. You two guys are a big reason why I have been here reading most every post for so long. Keep it up. Anyways, back to the topic at hand, I am very excited about the upcoming season for the Hawks. With a new coach, new ownership, a good GM, and seemingly motivated players, I truly believe the Hawks will be better than most expect them to be. It is true there will be lots of growing pains, but they will be fun to watch again (like at the end of last season) because they will play hard every game, even if they are not as talented as some teams. To put it simply, I am glad to have the opportunity to watch a team that will play with heart like they did at the end of last year.
  5. It is exciting to see the Hawks play hard and actually be entertaining. They really played good tonight. It sure would be nice to have the Hawks put together a nice winning streak and sneak into the playoffs. Wouldn't it be funny if they got in and put the Pistons out in the first round?
  6. Crawford is playing really good basketball right now. He has been one of my favorite Hawks since they picked him up. I was really excited a couple of years ago when he did so well in the playoffs. It was a bummer that he has had to battle injuries so long, but I am glad that he is back because he is really exciting to watch.
  7. The trade of JT to Orlando would be great for us, but I doubt that would happen. The only other idea that I think could really be helpful would be to resign Sura (he hustles, plays hard on both ends of the court, and is actually a sound all around player).
  8. I am pulling for the Hawks to win. I finally got the chance (along with some motivation after the trades) to watch the Hawks tonight against the Sixers and I was very pleased. The team played with intensity that I did not notice from watching games earlier this year. It seemed like the players were actually enjoying playing basketball, rather than worrying about their image or money or whatever. Watching the game was refreshing because the Hawks actually looked decent (even if most people say they are just a bunch of scrubs). I noticed that CC did a good job on Big Dog in the first quarter, and the team seemed to play good defense as a unit as well. Sura, CC, and Jackson could be valuable players next year is we can find a way to keep them around (namely Jackson and Sura).
  9. Philly would NOT trade Iverson/Snow for JT/Hendu/1st. That is an extremely biased trade for the Hawks. From reading most posts on this site over the last 1 1/2 years, I don't think many fans on this board (or anywhere else) think very highly of JT or Hendu. That being the case, why in the world would ANY team in the NBA take them for anyone decent, much less an All-Star who is the leading scorer in the NBA, a huge fan draw, and a great competitor. Maybe if we were Detroit and gave Philly expiring contracts/Darko/Billups/1st, and I am not sure if that would even get it done. Just think, if you were in Philly's shoes, what would you tell all of your loyal fans (most of which come to see Iverson) if you took back "scrubs" like JT/Hendu and a 1st(and many here say it is a weak draft) for the face of your franchise? There would be no acceptable explanation in my opinion, and I would have a very hard time seeing you keeping your job for long.
  10. Could it be possible to get a 1st, Rebraca, Hunter, and Okur for Wallace? Would that work under the CBA? I have been a fan of Okur ever since watching him use Theo Ratliff last year. Seems like this could work out well for both teams and give Atlanta a good shot at resigning Okur next year.
  11. I don't post very often, but I actually had the chance to watch the game tonight. Often times, I will read the AJC sports page and come to hawksquawk and get a quick summary of what has been going on, so it is kind of nice to be able to post. But tonight, I am out of school for thanksgiving. Anyways, I thought that JV did a nice job of guarding Vince. He was very agressive and did a respectable job of containing Vince on the perimeter. JV did tire quickly, it seemed, as a result of the physical play of Vince. I was curious as to why Dion was on Vince at the end of the game instead of JV or even Diaw (who played really well by the way). Dion was just too slow and Vince was just plain awesome. Oh well. All of this thought about who can guard Vince makes me wonder if there is any way that the Hawks could get Vince Carter. It sure would be great to have someone exciting to watch. I might actually spend some of my funds (which are very minimal) if he was a Hawk. Any responses are welcome. Believe.

    The Future

I have heard talk about this trade on ESPN today and have also read all of the posts on this site. There seems to be a much wider range of feelings about this trade than the one from last year that got us grob (which were actually mostly positive, at least until the hawks actually started playing). I just now saw that this trade has been completed with the Hawks getting brandon's contract, cash, holcomb (who I don't know much about), and a first round pick. This has made me feel much better about this trade. Hopefully this is a good starting point for the Hawks future.
  13. I was actually in Buckhead last weekend staying with a friend. It is a nice area, but is very crowded, at least from what I saw. There sure are lots of people clubbin' on Friday night.
  14. I actually live near the Rome area now and am attending Shorter College. Do you live in the area at all?
  15. Thanks for the information so far and I appreciate the willingness to help me out in the future. I was wondering, were you talking about Berry College in Rome, GA? Anyways, thanks again for the help and good luck to ya'll in your endeavors. Just believe and have faith.
  16. I know that this is not the proper place for this post, but homecourt seems to get the most traffic. I am sorry if this is an inconvenience, but I have lots of questions about med school and I was hoping to get answers from people who are actually there. I am a sophmore in college right now and am hoping to get into either MCG or Mercer for Med School in a couple of years. I was wondering if i could get info. on what the experience is like, the MCAT, and the difficulty of being accepted. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  17. w/ Reef/Dickau going for Randolph/Anderson/Daniels/1st? This seemed like a very good trade that would be beneficial for both teams. Just wondering if this trade has blown up or what? Also, just to make a comment, what are the chances of a BD for Spree trade actually happening? BTW, how many years are on each's contract? Has there been anymore news about a possible Theo trade? Or has the talk died down now? Finally, what are the chances of any or all of these or other trades actually happening? I know it has been a long time since I have posted(last summer), but I have read most of the posts on here, especially lately. Lack of time and lack of interest in actually watching the team have been the reasons for my absense, but the chance of getting some players that are exciting to watch has prompted me to make a post. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thank you.
  18. The hawks have once again been one of the main movers and shakers this offseason, yet no one(outside of hawksquawk) seems to be excited about the team's upgrades like last season. Does anyone have an opinion why the expectations for the hawks havent been raised in the media like they were last year? The reasons I can see are as follows: 1. big dissappointment last year when we got the hype 2. the Big Dog trade was somehow warped to the point that we may have gotten the bad end of the deal(HOW????) 3. most people dont think of the healthy players we got back from last seasons IL(ex. Theo, Hendu) 4. think we will have too small of a backcourt w/ DD and JT (how do people still not understand that JT is the point, it is very frustrating) Aside from these reasons(I can only kind of understand the first one), people should be talking about the hawks in the same sentence as playoffs and EC finals(have a legitimate shot at this). Please respond with thoughts or feelings on the national media's and mediocre fan's skewed thoughts. Thanks.
  19. I am very excited and optomistic about this upcoming season. The hawks have a very good chance to make the playoffs with their talent(provided they stay healthy) and maybe even contend for an Eastern Conference title! ****By the way, does anyone know when the first televised preseason game is this year? Thanks!
  20. Your predictions, while being more reasonable than me on the scoring of the starters(me 77ppg/you 73ppg), your bench scoring seems much more unrealistic b/c it would mean that our team will average 114ppg this season by your numbers. Only the Mavs averaged that last year(and that was b/c they could'nt play a lick of defense). I agree that my starters numbers were fairly high since we will have a lot of bench scoring(I hope!). So, to revise my thoughts I will just say that I hope that at least four of the starters can produce the numbers in my prediction. A better prediction for me would probably be looking at team ppg for and against, along with +/- for those stats. Well, here it goes...97ppg for; 96ppg against; +1ppg for/against ratio. What does everyone think? Does this hopefully better explaination seem more realistic and maybe even likely? Feel free to express thoughts, the previous ones were interesting to read. Thanks!
  21. PG: JT-will step it up a notch this year just to prove people wrong(20ppg/7apg/1.5spg; possible All-Star) SG: Ira-great inyourface defense; will put up solid #'s (10ppg/5rpg) SF: DJ-where he should really be playing; his added weight will allow him to have a breakout year(15+ppg) PF: Reef-another All-Star performance(20ppg/9rpg) C: Theo-will finally earn his money by leading the defense; may be an All-Star since the East is weak at C (12ppg/8rpg/3+bpg) I know at first glance this prediction seems really far fetched. I am reaching a little bit on some of these, but all of these are very probable if no one is injured. After sitting back and thinking of this formula, (dare I say it) it looks like the hawks have a great shot at the playoffs when you calculate in the bench with what I believe is a strong starting 5. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on my predictions whether they are positive or negative and would also like to hear the thoughts of others. Thanks!
  22. I have been a member for a couple of weeks now and I have read almost every post in that amount of time. There have been some good and bad ideas that I have heard in that time. Even so, the discussions on this site(whether I agree with them or not) have been refreshing for me b/c this is the only site that I have found where anyone really knows or cares about the hawks. Now, with my praises out of the way, I would like to comment on this trade idea from Diesel witch I think could be very good. By trading Glover for Haywood, the hawks would lose a scoring SG/SF for a BU center a equal to Nazr(but has great potential) With this trade done, the hawks would then be able to pull off the trade everyone has hyped up; Nazr for Mike Miller So, now lets look at the what the hawks lost and gained: lost: 1. glover gained: 1. Haywood 2. Nazr 2. Miller Overall, I think that this was a very good proposition by Diesel
  23. I don't know why the Hawks are wanting another PG when they already have JT and are sure to pick up a good reserve. The Hawks should only move up if they can find an impact frontcourt player, especially if they can get a center to take Theo's spot if he gets injured again or leaves because of free agency in the next couple of years.
  24. With the large amount of high priced reserves(i.e. Kukoc, Glover, Hendu) the Hawks should dump some of this extra salary along with someone like Crawford or Nazr and/or a draft pick to boost their frontcourt. Also, it would be beneficial to resign Vaughn or sign Jeff McInnis to be a solid backup for JT.
