The good & the bad

The Good - Theo played well while he was in the game.

He made his points and his blocks.

Hawks haven't had their projected starting five on the

floor together yet this pre-season, pulled all their

starters well before the other team and still lost the

game by only 2 points. Hendu looks more and more like

he is ready for a good season.

The bad -- Players that are trying to impress and maybe

get a job in the N.B.A this season or be available when

there is an opening, didn't play very well, loosing the

lead and finally the game. This caused some Hawk fans

to panic and begin to moan about loosing.

Another Good -- We didn't get any one injured. Some

teams are loosing players to injuries already and it's

still pre-season. Health is always a major concern.

Good and Bad -- Dickau looks like a rookie. He hasn't

adjusted to the N.B.A. game yet -- He missed a lot of

shots which has nothing to do with what league you

play in, especially the free throws. But, he will get

better. He will learn and we must be patient with him.

Very Good -- Hawks starters won their part of the game.

Most of the players on the floor at the end will be somewhere else once the regular season starts.

Agree: Dickau will not be an immediate star for the Hawks. Some sports writers, but not the Hawksquawk

posters, thought he should be the immediate starter

and J.T. would have to be #2 guard and that J.T. was

too small for #2 guard, so he would have to leave.

I agree, Dickau will be a good backup P.G. for us this

season. We will see him continue to improve all

season and by the time playoffs are here, he will be

able to make a real contribution to our drive for the

championship, which I believe we will be right in the

middle of. We should improve at least 10-12 wins

over last season.

Disagree: Dickau cost Hawks too much. We had a

position that we needed to fill, back up P.G. We had

the opportunity to get the player that front office of the

Hawks and the coaches felt would be a perfect fit for

our needs. He has the ability and the personality that

they were looking for. I say, when you find what you

are looking for and it is available, whether it is a new

player, a new house, a new car or a new wife, some

small sacrifices may be necessary to obtain your goal

but if you are satisfied with what you get, then it turns

out to not be too expensive but a real bargain.

When all is said and done, I believe Dickau will turn out

to be a real bargain for the Hawks. His developement

will take time. Don't expect too much too soon. This

is what the sportswriters wanted us to believe. Dickau

was their projected starter.

Nobody ever thought DD would be a star. Few think he'll be a starter. But when you pick last in the 1st rd "a first rate BU Pg", especially one who as a fourth year starter in college making for a quicker transition to the pro game, is what you hope for as a GM.

No one would accuse you, BHD, of overestimating DD (or any other white player for that matter) so we can only hope and perhaps expect that DD will be something more than just a "first rate BU" or better yet the "best case" combination between Stockton and Ehlo you previously suggested. Since I like JT too much to consider him not a part of this team (and not enough to consider him a Sg), the best result would be some pretty good trade bait as a better than just "a first rate BU Pg" in DD.

Here's to hoping we get MORE THAN our draft pick's worth by DD turning into a "first rate BU Pg".
