Larry Drew II Surprisingly Leaves UNC

Feb 04, 2011 11:13 AM ESTWilliams_Roy_ncaa_090329.jpg

Larry Drew II has left North Carolina's team and will transfer, according to a source close to the situation.

Drew left campus Thursday, roughly 48 hours after recording nine assists in 19 minutes in North Carolina's 106-74 victory over Boston College.

The point guard has shared duties this season with Kendall Marshall, but lost the starting job to the freshman in January.

Drew is the son of Atlanta Hawks head coach Larry Drew.

If Drew transfers to another school, he would have to sit out one season and then have one season of eligibility remaining.

We would love to have him at UGA ! The Dogs will lose Ware and Robinson (their current starting backcourt who are both juniors) when Drew II regains his eligibility. Drew reminds me of Ramon Sessions. A guy coach Fox had at Nevada who was a steady, not flashy, pass first PG. Fox runs the triangle offense. Learning the triangle can't be a bad thing for a young PG.

He may consider going to Tech if they would fire Hewitt. There he could face UNC and the guy who took his job twice a season.
