Peachtree Hoops: Kirk Hinrich Injury: Shoulder Surgery Could Sideline Hawks Guard At Start Of Season

According to a report, Atlanta Hawks guard Kirk Hinrich recently had shoulder surgery and could miss the beginning of the season. The report says that Hinrich would be out until late December or early January which should coincide with the start of the NBA season. Even if he is able to return by the Hawks opener, he will likely miss several days of the abbreviated training camp.

No real report on why the decision was to have the surgery so late. Hinrich missed games with Hamstring and calf injuries last season. He injured his shoulder in training camp with the Wizards last season.

This development severely puts a damper on the Hawks proposed three-guard rotation of Hinrich along with Jeff Teague and Joe Johnson. With Jamal Crawford looking more unlikely by the day to return to the team, the Hawks will find themselves with a shortage of guards to start the season. Atlanta was likely to sign a backcourt player anyway to fill out the roster.
