No, the coach didn't shoot them, but he also didn't put him into good position with scheme.

Come on, dawg. His scheme may have increased or decreased the number of threes he took, but it’s on the player to shoot if it’s a good shot and make it.

And you still have to weigh the team’s ability vs Sarr’s performance against them. If Ignite are inept to the point of their data being worthless, then you have to throw out Sarr’s game against them as worthless data too.

That Ignite team was so poorly coached and developed that I don't think you can make much of their stats.

I think you can absolutely put some weight into their stats. The coach didn’t shoot Holland’s sub 30% threes for him.
And I would think as many times as you’ve post about Sarr’s big game against Ignite that you would have put some weight into their performances too. Can’t have it both ways. Either Sarr had a great game against a talented (if underwhelming) team, or they were so bad that you can’t put any weight into Sarr dominating them.

"Edey, a two-time National Player of the Year at Purdue, is one of the biggest unknowns heading into June's draft. While Edey possesses the size and finishing abilities on the interior to be a serviceable big man, there have been many question marks about his motor and his impact outside of the paint. At the NBA Draft Combine, Edey raised eyebrows with his shooting techniques from the perimeter as well as his effort in the speed and agility testing. Still, there are disagreements between NBA personnel as to whether the 7-foot-4 center will be a sure-thing lottery pick or if he will fall to the end of the first round."

It’s crazy that anyone can consider him an unknown. There’s more film on him than 90% of the rest of the players in the draft.
And I don’t think there’s any questions about his motor at all.
The only questions are if his skill set fits the schemes teams want to play. He’s a good, reliable player, but he’s not for everyone.

Yes, it is the first one of us has mentioned it on here. We've talked about it privately. I think trading the pick would be a disaster PR move and it would be more about Ressler saving money by not having to pay the #1 pick salary scale.

If they trade the first pick they will get absolutely raked across the coals.
It would be like trading Luka for Trae + a pick Part 2. That wasn’t even that terrible but people are STILL bitching about that trade, and rightfully so.

Taking the consensus best player available and them not working out is a much more forgivable offense than missing out on the best pick available for a package of lesser assets and unrealized potential. The upside of trading down doesn’t outweigh the risk of keeping the pick IMO.

I agree.  Sarr, Buzelis, Risacher, and Holland more than likely are the 4.  Buzelis and Risacher are in the same archetype of player.  I think Buzelis is better off the drible than Risacher.  They both have significant shooting equity.  They fill that big wing floor spacer archetype.

Please just let it be Sarr. The others are fine too 5 or 10 picks, but not 1.
Buzelis and Holland are bad 3pt shooters. The more I watch Buz, the less I like him. Both had a +/- of -10.
Risacher seems pretty good, not great. Not much wow factor in his play. I have a new nickname for him. French Vanilla. It’s exactly how I see his game.

Claxton will cost way more than that. Maybe someone like Jonas but if you are going to sign Jonas, draft Edey. On top of that, we will be in the LT. Just mentioning. Hawks said they willing to pay.

But if we could sign Jonas, we don’t have to draft Edey and could draft Sarr instead.
    OO-Jonas at 5

    JJ- Sarr at 4

JJ and Sarr could also split a little extra time at 3 & 5 for limited time.
    Everyone wins.

    I’d have Risacher at a 50-55 FV.

I can see the case for Risacher, but I don’t think he’ll have as much impact as Sarr.
I think ZR has a floor of Exum like career, with the most likely trajectory of Hunter/Marvin. Good enough with enough belief in his potential to earn an overpriced second contract, but not ever a max contract.
I'd be surprised if he made an all star team.

Sarr and ZR both have the potential, but Sarr has something ZR never will and that’s his length.

We have a general FRONT COURT ISSUE from SF thru C. We need size, defense and athleticism. If we are keeping Trae the defense has to be addressed, we can't keep being bottom of the league.

I have Sarr backing up JJ in year 1.

Thank you! PG is the only position we shouldn’t really be looking at, followed closely by SG.
We absolutely need depth at 3, 4, & 5. Sarr has the most upside in this draft and will play somewhere on this spectrum between 3-5 throughout his career.

I just want everyone here to stick what they repped.

If you are for Sarr and he fails in Atlanta. Don't blame the Hawks, blame yourself and apologize to everyone for your actions.

If Edey is in Atlanta and fails in Atlanta. Same, blame yourself and this one is actually on you. Many of us have failed.

    KB with Zion and Culver

    Me with Cam and Bagley

Jay is finally claiming Sarr with her life so this is her first real shot outside of the Murray trade and moves the Hawks should or shouldn't make.

    Camp with Wiseman

    Spud with Culver and Cam

We all have made mistakes but this one is massive because we are so one sided.

KB, if you are right and Sarr, Ware, and Bona are a success and Edey is Boban 2.0. I'll take that as my message to completely go away from scouting basketball players.

If I am right, Edey is a successful and even possibly a massive success, Sarr busts, Ware and Bona are JAGs. You should take that as a message that you really don't know what you are talking about and you should just stop talking about college hoops.

At the end of the day, the lines have been drawn.

I hope the Hawks do the right thing and draft Edey if Trae is sticking. Even if he doesn't, i don't mind moving down and taking Edey. Just as long as you land him is all I care about

So melodramatic. Why would any player failing be any of our faults?

From casuals to GMs, everyone hits and misses all the time. I don’t see what the big deal is. The only issue is when someone speaks with 100% certainty when there can’t be 100% certainty.

I know I’m right 90% of the time, but I’m willing to admit the other 10% of the time that I erred in my interpretation of the tea leaves. It happens to the best of us. 😘

I love seeing everyone’s hot takes. We should have a 2024 NBA draft Hot Takes thread where everyone lays out their predictions for players in the draft. No discussions, no arguments. Just putting things on the record so we can look it up easily in one, two, or three years.

Sarr has solid shooting fundamentals and shot I think 71% at FT last season. He's also incredibly young. If his defense is Mobley level which I firmly believe it is then that's all I care about frankly. If he can just rim run and put in bunnies he's going to feast just on that from Trae.

Sarr can shoot from outside including 3. I'm not understanding this degree of criticism. Yes, he's clearly got a lot of work to do on offense. I might be the  lone voice in the wilderness but I'd love to him, Jalen and OO out there and no one cares what position each guy is playing. Sarr as a three would be TERRIFYING because how do you match up with that?

    Thank you!
He’s got an offensive bag, he’s shown the ability to do a lot of things. Now he just needs practice to be able to do it consistently. He’s starting off from a better place than trying to teach someone something new that the haven’t done before.

I don’t care where is final primary position will end up being - 3, 4, or 5 - he’s going to grow into a very good player. It will just depend on the coaching, team around him, & how his body grows.

Not that I subscribe to crazy supes-isms, I wanna go on record and say I think it's possible the Holland guy ends up being the best player out of this draft......

before he started stinking it up in the G league, that was a popular opinion and he was often at or near the number one pick.
It’s possible, but I’m a little skeptical. The guy hustles for sure, though, and that’s a lot more than a lot of top prospects.

I think Atlanta should Boston Celtics this one. Sarr is this draft Fultz's. Trade it to a team like Detroit for 5 and get future 1st or someone who can help next year like Ausar.

Yuck. Ausar is not that enticing and I definitely don’t want to rely on getting a high pick from Detroit. 😂

Risacher is probably my #2 to Sarr.  6’ 10” with legit shooting upside.  Three and D wing archetype.  Probably not the defensive player Ron Holland is right now, but better shooter with a more projectable frame.

I was interested in Risacher, but the more I watched him play the less interested I became. He and Holland are two of my three biggest bust potential players.

Bust candidates if selected in the top five of the draft:

    1. Topic. Hands down bust. Too slow, poor shooter. 85% bust potential.
    2. Holland. I question whether he’ll develop offensively enough. 40% bust potential.
    3. Risacher. Good, not great. I don’t think he’ll be bad, I just doubt he’ll ever be good enough for someone you would pick in the top 3 or 5 of a draft. I can see a Dante Exam career potential. 25% bust potential.
    4. Dillingham. He’s good, but IDK if he will be great. I don’t think you want him as a PG and I think he’s more of an undersized SG. Quickly or a sixth man microwave off the bench ceiling. 20% bust potential.

All these players are fine to take at the right spot, but if they’re taken in the top five, I think their teams will be disappointed. Maybe that’s just the nature of this draft though.

I would take Sarr, Castle, Clingan, and maybe Sheppard, Buzelis and Cody Williams before any of the above players.
