IF Giannis were to become available, gotta think OKC and the Spurs would be first in line to make that trade. Unless Milwaukee is just in love with Sarr, they’ll outbid us.

That’s what I’m thinking. We could put a decent package together with Sarr, JJ, plus whatever else we could throw in, but there will be other teams that could offer more.

I’ve seen nothing that makes me think Trae has requested a trade.  All we’ve seen from him publicly this offseason is saying he wants to win in Atlanta and praising his teammates and the kids who have come up through his camps.  I “appease” my star by building the best team around him not by doing what he says.  Sometimes those things may overlap.  Sometimes they won’t.  If I am GM the right call rests with me.  Trae will be a FA in two years.  That is plenty of time to go from where we ended last season to being in the range of a 5 seed type of team which I think would be satisfactory for him.

    That’s in an ideal world.
I’m going by what South or whoever mentioned Trae wants us to trade the number one pick and parts for a specific star to pair with him and if they don’t want to do that then he wants them to trade him.
*If* that is essentially the case, how do you foresee it playing out if they don’t trade for the star player and they don’t trade Trae?
Do you think that will work out well? Will Trae just come around and say, “you know what, I know I’ve made multiple requests with the FO and you’ve always delivered, but now that you’re not going to, I think you’re right. I’m going to be a good trooper and play along with your plan.”

I don’t think so. In an ideal world, players play and GMs manage. But in today’s world, players with pull push the buttons.

Agreed.  The last time we traded a star player it was a bit of a disaster and destroyed the most promising season in Nique’s entire run with the team.  Trading him for a lesser talent to avoid paying him was a huge PR and basketball mistake.  Better to hang on to your star a bit too long than to trade him away too early.  Make the most of it.

Different scenarios though. Nique was traded without his knowledge vs. Trae requesting a trade.
Or are you in favor of mortgaging the future for appeasing the star to keep him around a little longer?

and why do we want KD for?  He is the last person in the NBA that I want on this team, and he wants to go to the Heat

Why on Earth would a GM trade the #1 pick for a player in his mid-30s?

    Hey, I didn’t say I wanted that. If fact I wouldn’t want 35yo KD at $48mil/yr.

I was just proposing it as a real possibility we may come up against.
    KD or Giannis, whatever.
But I think KD will be on his way out sooner rather than later to his, what, 5th team?

Suns way underachieved. In cap hell. No draft picks til 2030. Can’t trade face of team in Booker. Can’t trade Beal at his contract and no trade clause. KD is a fickle one who asks out when the going gets tough, so I could see them working out an exit.

I wouldn’t be surprised is KD is moved before Giannis. And he will be easier to get than Giannis. I suspect other teams could beat any package the Hawks could offer for Giannis.

I have heard that Trae has already told the FO to either make the team a contender now or trade him and he wants to go to the Spurs. I was told the Spurs are offering 4, 8 and all our picks back for Trae. I was told this is the  most likely scenario because Tony Ressler doesn't want to give up our first ever #1 pick and wants to use it.

Trae hasn't talked about the #1 pick because he wants it used to get a superstar player, I've heard a name twice once from my source and once from @NBASupes but I don't want to repeat it out loud just yet until my source is cool with it.  It would cost us the #1 pick, Jalen and two additional firsts and I think Capela to make it work.

IMO that's too rich. I'd rather blow this up and start over than depend on two or three guys carrying a roster. Look at the Suns or Nets and how well that turned out for them.

I TOLD YOU!! I TOLD YOU!! What I say? Didn’t I say it Trae could ask the FO to trade the pick to get a star or to trade him if they don’t?!
Didn’t I saw that?! Yeah I said that.
I’ll take the doubters apologies off the air thank you very much.

I speculated KD, but we’ll see.

    So, I’ll ask this again:

    would you rather have

    Trae + KD

    or

    Murray + Sarr

    ?

If KD were 27, I would be okay with that.  But at 35?  Big picture, that's not good for the franchise.

I agree. But it’s a win now move, and what happens if Trae pushes the FO again for this win now move? He’s pushed them to trade for players before.

What if Trae told the FA “Get me KD, or trade me”?

    Who here would rather have:

    Trae + KD

    or

    Sarr + DJM?

Which team wants Clint? And what can we get for him?

What would you (the collective “you”) think if instead of trading DJM and parts to NOP for 26yo BI looking for close to $50mil, they send DJM, CC, #1 pick and parts to PHX for 36yo KD at $48mil?

KD most likely to get moved of their big three, they have no point guard, and no picks through 2030.

    Trae

    Bogi

    KD

    JJ

    OO

I'm not saying I’m in favor of it, but just throwing it out there that it could be possible. 35yo KD scares me, but that’s a star for Trae.

We would need a lot more to include OO as has been the case in many hypothetical trades.  I like the idea of JJ / Sarr / OO on the front line even though I worry about injuries there.

IIUC the Hawks were only open to including OO if NOP sent us the Lakers 25 frp which NOP wasn’t willing to do.
I was open to trading OO to make room for a 7’er, but If we get Sarr, I’d be more interested in keeping OO. I think they (along with JJ and MoG) would really complement each other a lot.

Draft board before lottery balls was Sarr Risacher and Clingan. In that order. From both Hawks sources confirmed. Make of it what you will.

In my extensive amount of minutes researching prospects this afternoon, I’m on the Sarr train.
I thought Risacher could be an option as a 3+D wing, but IDK. I’m getting Dante Exum vibes from him.

@NBASupes, before you got all hot and heavy over Zach, I remember you were high on Risacher, but I haven’t heard you mention him at all today. Why the sudden push for Clingan now?

Good luck finding a 7-footer who can do even half the stuff OO can.

Well, that’s not the point. The point is to get a 7 footer who can do things OO and CC and Bruno can’t do.

In an ideal world, we’d keep OO and acquire a good 7 footer to diversify our center rotation options.

We have fans who would get a case of priapism if we traded OO and replaced him with the likes of Ayton and Bamba.  Neither are good but they have size, and that’s all that matters to some.

    giphy.gif.e5b74a92466b6b79ce571ba835119bfa.gif

This tepid take is so tiring. Why is OO’s lack of size such a sensitive subject for you?

You may find 1 out of 500 fans who think this, but for the rest of us it has more to do with the thought that we could use A 7 footer, not that all three of our centers need to be 7 feet.
    ¿Comprendes?

We need to add size to our roster.
OO is great, he’s fine, but he can’t do it all, and he hasn’t done enough to justify being untouchable.

I don’t think anyone *wants* him gone. But the fact is we need to replace at least one of our three centers and he currently has the highest trade value.

    OO: Positive trade value

    Bruno: Neutral trade value

    CC: Negative trade value

OO trade scenarios work because 1) it opens a front court spot on the roster, and 2) it will bring back positive assets in return.

I am passing along what that source said. I find it interesting that the NBA at large (that is how it was put to me) thinks the Hawks will fake wanting a wing but will really go for a defensive minded center. I don't see Clingan lasting that long either.

Kinda hard to say until we actually know the lottery order.

Agree with what AHF said. Teams could very well be lying on their rankings in hopes someone falls to them.

That being said I want to pay extra close attention to the 7-10 group. Not sourced but there are only two names in the group that make sense. Holland who likely won’t make it there and knecht who I believe Quin will fall in love with in the draft. He doesn’t solve any defensive concerns however but his spacing would be nice to have. Im Not a fan if they pick him though especially if they do so at the expense of any of the non guard names ahead of him

And then again, what @Sothron said in another thread:

Also heard from my Twolf source the NBA at large suspects the Hawks are going to fake to get a wing in the draft but really get a true center with size and ability to defend.
