Which team wants Clint? And what can we get for him?

What would you (the collective “you”) think if instead of trading DJM and parts to NOP for 26yo BI looking for close to $50mil, they send DJM, CC, #1 pick and parts to PHX for 36yo KD at $48mil?

KD most likely to get moved of their big three, they have no point guard, and no picks through 2030.

    Trae

    Bogi

    KD

    JJ

    OO

I'm not saying I’m in favor of it, but just throwing it out there that it could be possible. 35yo KD scares me, but that’s a star for Trae.

We would need a lot more to include OO as has been the case in many hypothetical trades.  I like the idea of JJ / Sarr / OO on the front line even though I worry about injuries there.

IIUC the Hawks were only open to including OO if NOP sent us the Lakers 25 frp which NOP wasn’t willing to do.
I was open to trading OO to make room for a 7’er, but If we get Sarr, I’d be more interested in keeping OO. I think they (along with JJ and MoG) would really complement each other a lot.

Draft board before lottery balls was Sarr Risacher and Clingan. In that order. From both Hawks sources confirmed. Make of it what you will.

In my extensive amount of minutes researching prospects this afternoon, I’m on the Sarr train.
I thought Risacher could be an option as a 3+D wing, but IDK. I’m getting Dante Exum vibes from him.

@NBASupes, before you got all hot and heavy over Zach, I remember you were high on Risacher, but I haven’t heard you mention him at all today. Why the sudden push for Clingan now?

Good luck finding a 7-footer who can do even half the stuff OO can.

Well, that’s not the point. The point is to get a 7 footer who can do things OO and CC and Bruno can’t do.

In an ideal world, we’d keep OO and acquire a good 7 footer to diversify our center rotation options.

We have fans who would get a case of priapism if we traded OO and replaced him with the likes of Ayton and Bamba.  Neither are good but they have size, and that’s all that matters to some.

This tepid take is so tiring. Why is OO’s lack of size such a sensitive subject for you?

You may find 1 out of 500 fans who think this, but for the rest of us it has more to do with the thought that we could use A 7 footer, not that all three of our centers need to be 7 feet.
    ¿Comprendes?

We need to add size to our roster.
OO is great, he’s fine, but he can’t do it all, and he hasn’t done enough to justify being untouchable.

I don’t think anyone *wants* him gone. But the fact is we need to replace at least one of our three centers and he currently has the highest trade value.

    OO: Positive trade value

    Bruno: Neutral trade value

    CC: Negative trade value

OO trade scenarios work because 1) it opens a front court spot on the roster, and 2) it will bring back positive assets in return.

I am passing along what that source said. I find it interesting that the NBA at large (that is how it was put to me) thinks the Hawks will fake wanting a wing but will really go for a defensive minded center. I don't see Clingan lasting that long either.

Kinda hard to say until we actually know the lottery order.

Agree with what AHF said. Teams could very well be lying on their rankings in hopes someone falls to them.

That being said I want to pay extra close attention to the 7-10 group. Not sourced but there are only two names in the group that make sense. Holland who likely won’t make it there and knecht who I believe Quin will fall in love with in the draft. He doesn’t solve any defensive concerns however but his spacing would be nice to have. Im Not a fan if they pick him though especially if they do so at the expense of any of the non guard names ahead of him

And then again, what @Sothron said in another thread:

Also heard from my Twolf source the NBA at large suspects the Hawks are going to fake to get a wing in the draft but really get a true center with size and ability to defend.

should’ve traded Dejounte at the deadline. It was so obvious in January that something going on. People keep talking about how much of a “leader” Dejounte is when he’s causing drama like this. This is ridiculous man. Keep Trae, and trade DJ and all the pro-DJ players.

Totally agree *except* DJs trade value at the deadline was trash. Zero good trade options rumored. The season was a wash anyway, so I think keeping him and putting him back in the market now has increased his value.

But yeah, let’s get rid of him now before training camp starts.

If we end up getting a top 3 pick, then we will need to ramp up the discussions over Alex Sarr, Donovan Clingan, and Stephon Castle.  I know most will bristle at Castle being included, but he is exactly the type of wing/perimeter POA defender team needs who also has plenty of offensive upside.  Maybe there is some discussion about Matas Buzelis being included in the top 3 mix.  If I had to pick right now, I'm probably going with my comfort level on Donovan Clingan and taking him as a potential Rudy Gobert type big.

At 10, I think the discussion centers around the wing prospects that may be there (Cody Williams, Ron Holland, Zaccharie Risacher, Ja'Kobe Walter), a potential unicorn big in Kel'el Ware, and a stretch four with upside in Tyler Smith.

I agree with most of this, though I wouldn’t want Castle to be our only pick this year. But I suppose if they pick a guard, he’s the one. Topic is the last guy I’d want.
Boy, Risacher really dropped, huh? I’d be happy with any of the guys you listed.

Definitely valid questions that I'm not smart enough to answer.  I just hear the team publicly talking about getting bigger and OO did little to improve his chances as our starting center last year when a prime opportunity to presented itself.  Those two things make me feel like he's less locked in as our future center than maybe he once was.  He's also starting to give me Hunter vibes with injuries.  We should really evaluate our training staff with all the injuries last season.  Geez.

Of course we could keep OO and still get bigger by moving him to PF and JJ to SF, then Dre or BI to SG.

I played around with it on fanspo, and it would take more than what's listed to make it go.

    This works though financially:
Hawks trade Dejounte Murray and Oneyeka Okongwu to New Orleans, AJ Griffin to Cleveland.

New Orleans trades Brandon Ingram to Cleveland, Herbert Jones and 2024 FRP to Atlanta, 2025 FRP to Cleveland.

Cleveland trades Jarret Allen and Caris LaVert to Atlanta.

I would love this, so that means it has no chance of happening.

I enjoy reading this thread- but I honestly don’t think hawks will change anything.    Gonna run back the same roster and rely on health- which will be dumb!!

We should not run it back, but our front office is just clueless.    I’d be happy trading Hunter for Kermit the Frog.

That would help with ticket sales for sure.

LA fired Darvin Ham.  Quin should bring him back to Atlanta as an assistant.

    Shhhhhiiiiiii.
Hawks probably should be looking to renegotiate an improved deal to keep Quin from bouncing to LA, with Trae following him.
