    Trial Date Set

I talkin about the ASG - Belkin trial. Set for Feb. I haven't seen this reported in Atlanta - it's the first news on this court proceeding in at least a year. Hello?
  3. Right around the corner, in 2009. Doesn't say much for my suspicions that the thing has been secretly settled. I tend to agree with most of the things said in this article, including the fact that Phoenix bluffed BK out of Rondo, Diaw and the upcoming pick. article

Would make a heck of a big man coach. Knows all the moves, all the footwork. How to hold position, time the jump. Relentless.
  5. Quote: Arguing about who is the "better" GM between Knight and King is like arguing who was the better player between Estban Batista and Cal Bowdler. They both were bad but happened to "play" in the NBA. BK and BK happend to be GMs in the NBA, they stumbled into some good decissions, but made more bad ones. I pass on both of them at this point for the Hawks. I was trying to think of an analogy myself - that one is not bad. I think Batista was clearly better. At least he torched the US for 25+ points in the FIBA games.
  6. Quote: the recent moves by the ASG seem to indicate that they really are doing business as if there was no suit. They fired and replaced the hockey coach, traded for a PG who makes over $14 million per year etc... I agree with this, although acquiring Bibby did not involve committing long term money. In fact, I have speculated that there may be an unannounced settlement of the legal fiasco, awaiting resolution of logistical issues such as valuation. I painted the worst case scenario in the original post, but it does seem like a situation that a guy could work with. I like the idea of a top assistant with a successful franchise coming in, ala the Falcons. But ownership needs to hire someone and step aside. I wonder how much Blank, and his obvious desire to fill seats fast, had to do with the Ryan pick.
  7. Sekou has assured us there are dozens that are slobbering for the position. But the ownership is in a protracted and crippling legal war. The owners in temporary control of the team are interfering with day to day decisions. There is no real indication the owners will commit money long term. The team is young and has had a losing record for years. Two of the major pieces must be signed for much bigger bucks, or lost. There are no draft picks. Major salary is tied up with a player who may never play again, but won't retire. There is no real center, and no point guard of clear quality. The owners are publicly committed to a coach who has accomplished little in his four years at the wheel. BK has to be extolling the frustrations and futility of the situation, in basketball circles. How do we know anyone of value would really be interested in being the GM of the Hawks? [Note: apologies that this post is similar to one on the next page, which I just noticed. Some of us post first and read second]
  8. I will really be pulling for the Wizards. If Indy were to win, I can almost foresee the following: Woody goes all-out against Orlando, plays the starters 48 each. If the Magic pull it out, we have a back-to-back the next night. Tense! If Indy wins tonight, I would almost like to see him play the bench against Orlando, and go all out against Miami.
  9. Quote: I love baseball I love baseball myself. This is what makes me love it. I love to see every durn pitcher hop over the chalk on the way to the dugout. Fydrich and his pet baseball, the guy who brushed his teeth between every inning, the Cubs ball they put into the molecular decombobulation chamber, that's it! The reason above any other, that baseball reigns. I'm just sorry everyone can't hear Dizzy Dean and PeeWee Reese doing the game of the week. Dizzy's favorite pitcher was the Yankee, Rhyne Duran. Diz called him "Ronnnnn Dornnnnnnnnnnn...." Duran had cokebottle glasses, great big guy, threw around 105. When he would come in out of the bullpen, Dizzy would start up. Half of the warmup pitches would hit halfway up the backstop. Diz would be laughing his head off by the time the first batter would step up, and stand 3 feet from the plate and all the way back in the box. I would love to have some tapes of those old shows. All this time I have held a grudge about rampant steroids, and the ease of buying an allstar team for your city if you've got the money. I have tried to keep from watching the game. But this reminds me. None of that can dent this game. It's way too weird. I love this jersey curse business. I hope they press charges. And I hope that guy hires the best lawyer around, and makes them look like nuts. This is the coolest thing that's happened in a long time. OK, I'm ready. Let's have a suicide squeeze, please, and throw me one of those co' beers.
  10. Quote: This is a lot more fun than any close to a season I can remember for some time. It's true. If we don't get in, think how boring the summer will be. No picks in the draft. The only things of interest would be just seeing how many heads will roll, who we get to replace them, how Acie and Mario and Solomon do in the summer league, and interminable contract negotiations.
  11. Quote: I thought you were talking directly to me for a sec about my surfing habits! Whoops! I thought the same thing for a moment. Paranoid.
  12. I have no clues about hockey.
  13. The last time I spent the night at a Holiday Inn Express, and after consulting with the crystal ball which serves as a paperweight in my favorite room there, I brought you the inside scoop on the mysterious situation with Speedy Claxton, which has since unfolded as so revealed. So now, the oracle will further reveal (this is no spoof on anybody, just a clever way of unleashing these astonishing insights): 1. The ownership rift has been settled, just awaiting the mechanics of evaluation and payment, and proper timing of public revelation. 2. At the time the sans-Belk AS members took undisputed rule of the team (shortly before the unceremonious dismissal of Bernie), BK and Woody were both told in no uncertain terms that they had best make the playoffs or look for work. 3. No guarantees that either would stay, but certain they would be gone with no playoff appearance. 4. At some point, BK saw with dismay that the playoffs were in jeopardy under Woody's deft tutelage. 5. BK tried to get AS to replace Woody with ANYBODY in an attempt to save his own skin. 6. AS told BK that they wouldn't go back on their word to Woody; if he made the playoffs, they would consider whether to keep him. 7. Nothing on the alleged Calderon deal. No info.
  14. Jhay I wish you could see more games live - excellent review. I saw most of the game on tv, but your insights make me think I must have been drunk.
  15. Quote: Quote: He might as well drafted a white guy. So it's OK to be racist? Don't complain about it if you are going to perpetuate it. No offense intended. I do the same crap myself of course. But I am trying to catch myself. Basketball is the one arena where we have the best chance to get past that stuff, don't you think? None of us really care about a player's background or parents. We respect him if he can play, and dont if he cant. We all claim MJ and Bird.

  17. Bush league article. What a rehash of tired crap. Worthy of many of the posters here, but not a "journalist." I don't blame Marvin. Think of something to say, parrots. Quit squawking the same BS.
  18. Quote: He's offered the best coverage we've ever had. Really, it's the ONLY coverage we've ever had.
  19. He could attempt to look clueless.
  20. Quote: Even Larry Brown can't be that much of a snake. He's one of the major reasons Woody even got the Hawks job in the first place. I'm sure Woody is one of the nicest guys in the NBA. I don't doubt Larry Brown is a bit of a snake. That said, if Brown comes in to coach, the first round's on me.
  21. Quote: Was he that bad? I always thought that he was the kind of player that would produce if given the opportunity and minutes. The media is making it sound like he is total garbage. I like Shelden also, and I think he has a future in the post in the NBA. I would feel much better if it had been ZaZa going to Sacto.
  22. Thanks, CWell and Exodus - I had forgotten. Darn it.
