The best value signing of the offseason. Kris Dunn is an extremely valuable defensive player. 6th most valuable defender in the NBA via the RAPTOR and most valuable perimeter defender for a full season via the RAPTOR

Wow, top 50 in Raptor and top 90 in WAR, he performed better than I expected. I like this move a lot.

  2. Yes, we needed a lockdown defender, he is big to shut down players when they are destroying defensively Trae. His offensive game has been improving  every year, his TS is at 0,510 last year although re regressed a little las pt year on 3p%. Contract amount is also good.

This is the kind of player that fits our timeline (on age) and our need. I like Dunn much more than Rondo. BpUsing the same logic that is why I would have preferred Wood or Bertans over Gallo.

So you preferred we sign dudes that didn't want to be here?  Do we tie them up and make them sign?  You realize it takes two to tango, right?

And there's gotta be a reason Wood keeps bouncing around.  Folks gotta stop pining after him.

Well we don't know if we have gone after them. At the end they are signing at Houston and Washington, teams surrounded by drama these days, with stars wanting to leave. Is very likely that if we have made a serious offer they would have signed here, this is not Hayward or Harris situation.

Woj said it, this was the biggest contract paid ever for a 32 year old player. I think we are going to regret it a lot.

  4. I really don’t like the signing, too much money for 32 years old. I would have signed Bertans or Wood for their contracts, even paying more.

He is injury prone, there is a decent chance you pay 20 a year for a guy that plays 30-40 games a season, that would be a huge ballast for our playoff chances. I just cannot understand why we did not go Bertans or Wood route.

He will play all minutes at 4, the thing people are not getting is that Collins is going to play significant minutes at the 5. Capela is also injury prone so they will try to keep him fresh, I doubt he plays more than 30, I think Collins play at least 12 at C. That is leaving nearly 30 minutes for Gallo at 4. Bruno will not see the court much.

Free agency proves that if Atlanta was in a real free agency class, we wouldn't have a shot at any top 50 guy

Well, I think that might change if we manage to make the playoffs this year with an up and coming young core and a futurw MVP candidate that is 22 years old

  6. I like Joe Harris more than Bogdanovic, he shots at much better percentages and will be a better fit, he is slightly better defender also and can play both wing positions. I think for that money he will sign with us with no risk of matching

  7. If we look for need, first is a quality wing, then Backup PG and PF.

Quality wings in my mind are Hayward, Harris, Crowder, Bogdanovic in that order. Fair money for them would be 20, 18, 12, 15. Can you overpay a little? I would only do it for Hayward, up to 25 frontloaded, if goes further let the Knicks sign him. When they use their cap we can sign other players cheaper.

Which are these players? Christian Wood, Harrell, Bertans, Joe Harris, Gallinari, Jerami Grant, KCP, Dunn, Van Fleet, Dragic, Clarkson, Ibaka, Marcus Morris, Baynes. If NYK uses his cap in GH, we have just one competitor for FA. We can make a good but still low offer and there would not be any other team capable of matching.

I would invest good money on players with upsdide like Wood a stretch big that can play both PF and C and would be a great help, much better than Gallo. On the wing if not Harris or Crowder we could go with KCP, Clarkson, Hood, Korkmaz, Grant, Harkless, Wilson Chandler, all are great upgrades for the bench although do not deserve big money can be a great helpfor the team. For backup Pg there are a lot of options, I don't want Rondo.

If we stay patient there are going to be a lot of players that would upgrade the team, really few teams with cap and we can make a good team without compromising the future.

  8. There are plenty of options, I am not mad if we don’t get Hayward, probably he will never play to the contract he is signing.

I prefer to sign someone on the 26-28 range with upside and there are some players worth signing out there for good money. And if we sign a 30 year old injury prone we can do cheaper.

The addition of Snell perhaps means we are in the market for a big. I hope we are in play for Christian Wood or Bertans.

  9. I don’t like Dedmon trade, Dedmon is a useful C that can spread the floor which is a big issue for us as we have 2 players now that play only in the zone on Capela and Okongwu. He was perfect mate for Okongwu when he plays PF. He could be key.

Snell stats are awful and I don’t see how he can help us. We need bench role vet players at big and quality wings, that is the optimum with our roster construction. Instead we trade a bench role vet center for a  bench role wing, this is not a step on the right direction.

Lol!  People want to give Huerter away now for some reason like he is a negative asset

I don't consider Huerter a negative asset, I like him a lot but you need to give something for Richardson and I like him more than Huerter, I think Huerter is 4-5th wing option on a playoff team, good for 15-18 mpg role. Richardson is 2-3rd wing option on a playoff team, 25-30mpg player and cover some of our holes. The decission is clear for me although is sad for me letting Huerter go but wirh his defensive limitations is hard to envision him playing a major role if you want to win a playoff spot. If Hayward and KCP are signed for example Reddish and Hunter would pkay major roles but not Huerter

so if he went cheap, why are you sending Huerter AND a 1st?

You read it wrong, I would trade Huerter for Richardson and a first. Similar to what Dallas received for Seth Curry. I cannot find other player that would match Seth Curry production.

Rubio, #25 and #28 went for the #17 pick, what should we have offered?  What did we have to realistically beat that?

(As an aside that was the same pick we used to get Capela)

On the other side Josh Richardson was really cheap and I think we should have tried to get him. He would have been a hug huge improvement for us. I would have even sent Huerter for him and a first, Huerter is better asset than Seth Curry.

  13. It would be a major improvement to make the playoffs next year. Realistically is too early because team is too young, our core is not even 24 years old. Young, Huerter, Cam, Hunter, all are 22 and 23. Their best years are still to come.

Playoffs were achieved with 37 wins over 82, that is a jump of 12 wins. From win percentage of 30% to 45%.

Team is improved and we are not done yet. Capela should be a great addition and having Collins and Dedmon for the full year should be a plus. And we are not done yet. Additions like Hayward, Gallinari.... should take us to next level, is that enough? Depth is the questionmark for me. Hawks lose Young or Collins to an injury and we are done. Backup PG and PF are an issue. Starting wings are also an issue. So all depends on the additions we make. Let's say we add a capabe group like Napier, KCP, Hayward and Wood and I think playoffs are possible. If we don't cover holes we will make noise but will come out short for playoff appearance. The calendar will be squeezed next year, I think injuries and rest is going to be an issue for all teams.
