  1. Wow, I find amazing you Supes consider Toppin a better offensive player than Collins. Collins is easily a top 30 offensive player on the league, I really doubt Toppin would ever reach that level, of course not in first season. I understand you don’t consider Collins good enough at PF, he has holes of course and I agree these holes are big enough to doubt he is really a max player, I understand the point.

But, trying to defend that statement, that I think is fair, you are really undervaluing a really good player and overvaluing a prospect that has as much holes and is the same age, there are much more chances Toppin never reach Collins level than he becomes better than him ever, really much more. There is nothing on Toppin’s stats and performance that suggest he is a top talent even on a weak draft, I just don’t see it and would never change Collins for Toppin, not in a million years.

That said, it's obvious that Toppin is the best prospect Day 1 in this draft. He fits Trae extremely well. Fits our personnel. John contract is expiring so there are reasons to consider him over Edwards.

I don't like Toppin at all, I see him and think Jabari Parker. I don't think he is a good fit for Hawks, we need good defenders next to Trae

  3. Speaking of big FA if Harris , Trez and Bertans end with the same money for me is easy, take Trez. No way we should overpay that money for Bertans or Harris but I think Harris value will be 8-10, Bertans would be 12-14 too much for him and Trez 16-20 and I don’t want to pay so much for a bench player but If I have to chose with the same money is Harrell by a mile.

Talking about draft for me stays the same as it was, top tier Edwards and Wiseman, next Okongwu, Haliburton and Hayes. Deni Advija and Cole Anthony are growing on me and don’t want anything with Toppin, Mannion, Ball....

100%. We still need at least two high end backups who can spot start.

    Here are the keepers

    Trae

    Cam

    Hunter

    John

    Kevin

    Clint

    Dedmon

    Add a top 10 pick

And two to three high quality vets.

And two to three vets who are NBA level 3rd stringers

That has been my statement since December, I am still at the Christian Wood, Ibaka, Bertans, Crowder, Joe Harris, Bogdanovic, Korkmaz Train. Playoff should be achieved by adding 2-3 players of that list to the existing core and a top pick. I would not delete from the keepers Skal, Bruno, Teague and Graham, not my favorite players but they can play, I am ready to move from those if we are able to add players from that list but still would keep Bruno and Skal, I think Skal could flourish here.

I doubt there will be value as good as the pick available. I'll take the pick. 2009 was presumed to be a weak draft after the Blake Griffin pick. Washington was like, let's get some vets. Traded their pick to MIN for Mike Miller. Who could they have drafted

    Steph Curry

    DeMar DeRozan

    Jrue Holiday

    Jeff Teague

    Ty Lawson

So in hindsight, would you do that deal again?

If we get what I project to be 1-8 range, I think there is value. After that, i would look to trading back if possible and taking a swing on the role players while adding more assets for the future.

None of the rookies will crack our starting lineup and that's a good thing. We need better high end depth. We got lower end depth at 3 positions right now: PG, SF, and PF. The ability to add Toppin, Okongwu who is more of a center to me but can play both big spots, Okoro, Deni Avdija, Hayes, Haliburton and a freak talent like Edwards is far to great to pass on unless someone wants to trade us Devin Booker or Donovan Mitchell for the pick.

I could not agree more with this statement, this is about adding a good young player that although would not be an impact immediately would be a huge upgrade on the bench and a better value for the team future, a step on the right direction.

  6. I think some have said Capela do not play defense, I don’t agree with that statement, I think Clint plays defense as well as Trez. His rebounding and shot blocking is better. Can Trez play PF? Currently he plays C and there is where he is playing well. I think he can play PF as he has skills to score on the inside coming from outside and giving Capela some space to operate but they score essentially on the same way, that would make our offense too easy to defend, I think they don’t fit, Trez is a small ball C and that is what he is. We already have Capela and Dedmon, we have other holes to spend the money.

On the fit with Collins I think they would be to small and would be easy to destroy by power players, I think that would be a disastrous defense.

  7. I think the major disagreement comes from the fact that we all see Collins and Capela are part of our future and Trez just don’t fit well with them. He operates on the same space as Capela, they don’t fit on offense and Trez don’t fit with Collins on defense.

This is not arguing if Trez is a good player or not, this is people showing their love for Collins more than for Trez.

I think Capela fits well with Collins and so does Dedmon.  Now we need to find a big that fits that group, in my opinion that big is Christian Wood, is cristal clear for me.

  8. If we consider the season we could say Hunter did a little better than Reddish, both were bad, you can expect that from a rookie. Considering last months of the season I think Reddish finished better and showed more potential. I think Reddish was better in defense and Hunter was better on offense although Cam was showing real consistency at the end of the season and was even better offensively on some games.

Looking at the future I consider Reddish a SG and Hunter a SF and if Reddish can show continuously what he showed on February and March he will be better either on offense and defense. In my opinion Reddish defense was a big surprise and Hunter’s defense was a bit of a disappointment. I think both can and will improve next year but right now I can see Cam becoming a better overall player than Hunter, honestly I expected more consistency from him on his first year, specially on defense.

Well that all depends. We have a lot of P guys, guys with potential in Cam, Hunter, Huerter. We have the the future P’s covered. We need a N guy. A now guy. We need to get in the playoffs next year. Harrell would give us a better chance of accomplishing that goal than Wood.

I would not be so sure about that. Is clear Harrell contributes more to winning than Wood, he is showing that on Clippers while Wood is not showing that. However Harrell duplicates what Capela brings, they basically operates on the same floor space making difficult to play both at the same while Wood is a perdect fit for Collins and Capela. Defensively I think Wood fits better our team, rebounding might be a slight edge for Harrell but Wood protects better the rim. For me the choice should be clear for Atlanta, Wood should be also 5-6m$ cheaper.

  10. Is clear backup PF and PG are holes. Backup SF depends on the position Reddish will be playing, I think we need another wing. If we draft Edwards because we think is the BPA and will become our best wing I don't have a problem starting him with Reddish or Hunter at SF and Huerter coming of the bench. Ideally I agree we should consider Reddish a SG for several reasons, mainly maximizes talent on the floor, our best wings are today Cam and Hunter, and the mismatch he creates at SG, he is really big to be defended by most SGs. Having said that I don't see a problem playing him at SF.

Why more patience with Pierce in his second year over the team's rookies during their 1st even when you see improvement from them late in the season

Is easy, we all see potential on the rookies but in 2 seasons I have seen very little on the coach, his rotations are not good, his defensive scheme is awful, the offense is not working as was supposed to.... There are reports players are not happy with him...

  12. Looking again at 82 games stats I see team is as bad on the floor with or without him on he floor and from PER point of view or even other stats he did slightly better at PF than SF. My conclusion stay the same he was below average on the league and just average on the team on defense.

I think he is a SF and should play his entire career there. Best lineups for Hawks are the ones that have Hunter and Reddish with Collins or Parker and a traditional center, I CLP understand this and stay on the floor always with Capela and Dedmon I think we are a lock at playoffs. If he does not understand this and keep playing small is time for him to go. Numbers don’t lie.

  13. Some guys are saying he did ok on defense, I don’t think so.

Can anyone show what are his defensive numbers and stats when playing SF compared to his numbers playing PF and compared to the other wings on Atlanta? Reddish, Huerter, Graham and Bembry.
If I am not wrong and I think I am not his numbers will show that he did bad as a defender even at SF

  14. Guys you realize that Hunter was below average on defense on his rookie class and of course below average on the league right? All the metrics show he was not a good defender this year, I agree that can be expected on a rookie but to consider him  2nd all defense team I think is a huge reach.

he was not good on defense, he was not good on offense, plain and simple, can he improve? Of course but honestly I expected much more specially in defense.

    Doug McDermott

He’s a unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2021. What would it take for us to get him here?

He’s got good size at 6’7” 225 and can stroke it. Shot 44.5% from 3 land, a career best.

Would be a cheaper option that Joe Harris.

    Thoughts?

There is a reason he does not start at Indiana over players like Lamb, Harris is a starter on the league, McDermott is not, he is not s good defender

I can't either which is why I believe it when I see it. But teams are talking more than ever as you can imagine.

He also said Atlanta isn't open to trading one of their big 5 pieces but they might be open to listening for Kevin or John if the price is right. The belief is Atlanta spend too much for Hunter and won't move him and see Cam and Trae highly.

As for John, he said Atlanta wants to workout a good deal for him if possible. If John wants to come back, Atlanta is open to it but cost seems to be a big deal. Capela is seen as a long term piece.

I have been saying that Hawks main FA targets should be Joe Harris, Corwder, Bertans and Christian Wood. I am happy they are considering Joe Harris, he would be a great improvement for the team, don't know what would be the cost, Miami and NYK can do one big signing not more. I really hope we invest money in someone like Harris and not on someone like Milsap. I also think Huerter should be gone for the right price, I don't think he fits.

  17. hace 14 horas, Peoriabird dijo:

Hunter will be the Hawk's starting small forward going forward.  I don't know why this is in question by Hawks fans.  Cam has more shooting guard skills than small forward.  We need a real back up small forward rather than do the LP and place players out of position like he regularly does which leads to losses.

I am sorry but Hunter, Cam, Huerter have not shown enough to consider them as a full time starters in the Hawks. Only Collins and Trae have shown real star potential and Capela at Houston as well. If we think we have a shot in the draft  at a star wing we really need it. Only Cam has shown in my opinion enough on the court to be considered a future reliable starter wing and even with that his stats and metrics are awful as they are for Hunter and Huerter. I consider Hunter could become a starter and will be a contributor for years but he still has not shown enough.

  18. If you have a top 5 pick you just take the BPA, is not that we have a long term solution at SG, Huerter is a backup at best and a pooe fit for Trae. Hunter has had a poor season, I am not sold on him yet as a full time starter. Reddish I think can be a long term starter and he can play SG and SF, why would you not add a player with star potential at SG?

Same applies to Wiseman, Capela and Collins are your options, after that ther is nothing, why not draft a possible future big star?

We have no real stars other than Trae, we need to go BPA. Sure I also see Trae, Reddish Collins and Capela as capable starters next year but they need help

  19. If Travis think Skal is our backup PF there is no point in drafting Toppin. Toppin is a bad defender, if Parker did not work here, Toppin neither.

Our holes are at backup PG and another wing, is also questionable is Dedmon is our backup solution at C as I think after next year he is gone to have cap space for 2021.
Haliburton, Okongwu, Edwards, Wiseman, Hayes all fill the need. About backup wing I do not see anyone worth spending a high draft pick.
