  1. For me Obbi Toppin is Jabari Parker, he is compared to Drew Golden too.

    Okongwu is Bam Adebayo

Wiseman might be lower version if Anthony Davis

    Edwards might be Oladipo

okoro is compared to Justin Anderson

Haliburton is compared to Dejounte Murray

Hayes is compared to a better version of Dante Exum.

Those are some reasons why my top 5 are Wiseman, Edwards, Okongwu, Halliburton and Hayes.

Ya I like this comparison a bit. He can do a bit of everything and on some nights could even get some double digit dimes. I like mobile bigs. Having said that, again with the Toppin thing it duplicates what we have in Collins a bit.

Ummm I don't think so, Okongwu can play C and start with Collins in my opinion

    Start

    Harrell: 2

    Wood: 12

    Play 30+ mpg

    Harrell: 19

    Wood: 13

Have to give you credit. Doesn't appear you cherry-picked criteria in order to support the definition. Your integrity meter checks out fine. 🙂

Harrell has played a significant role on the Clippers all season, playing 28 mpg on a deep team all season, one of the better teams.

Wood played 15 mpg till February when Pistons traded Drummond and he started and played 33 mpg on 11 starts. 11 starts is a small sample and the production he got was much greater than on November to January. Christian Wood on November to January was a good reserve probably worth 5-8m $, now after 11 starts we are talking about much more, even more than double.... but as I said 11 starts is a small sample and it has to be noticed that Pistons lost nearly all those games, they were 1-10 on that run.

That is why I think Harell will get more money but remember I was the ine suggesting signing Wood as I think he will be the better player longer term, is just that I think he can be signed much cheaper.

Those are the facts, cold data. Now you can argue about what you saw on those 15-16 mpg till February, hey I saw the same, but that is only an opinion.... even Rotoworld was praying to unleash Wood and trade Drummond but his performances were not great till he started on February. That is the fact.

  4. Market will value that Harrell played a significant role on a winning team. And matket do also realize that Pistons are not winning starting Wood. That is why I think Harrell will be paid more. Also Harrell has been performing all year while Wood has only played 15 games with significant role, no team will pay 20 million for a player with such a small sample. That is what I think their market value are now.

Having said that is difficult for me to understand why Wood got so small attention this summer after a similar explosion and also difficult to understand why he has played so low minutes for 45 games. I always thought that his ceiling was real high, in my opinion higher than Harrell but the lack of winning is concerning. Is also true that Pistons roster is trash. I really believe Wood cam be a significant player on the league and has thought the same since he was MVP of the summer league 2 years ago.

Like I said, perhaps the price gets driven down by virtue of the fact that there just aren't as many competitors, but I believe he and Harrell will go for something in the same neighborhood, and those two likely are the pace setters among front court players--particularly so, if more recent speculation is correct that Drummond will not opt out, preferring to wait until the seller's market in 2021.

Should not surprise that the same stats and general assets about the player that make you sit up and take notice about Wood will generate similar enthusiasm among those who are looking for a productive 4.

One team that has already been widely associated with Wood is NYK, fwiw.

Knicks are not going to give him 20 million with Randle, Portis, Gibson under contract and risk their chances on 2021.

Pistons might take the chance but which is the biggest contract we can offer?

I think you give him 3 years 48m$ and is yours and as I said he is a much better fit than Harrell, Milsap or whatever big is in the market.

He's on my radar. But yes, he's been that productive this year. Will he get that? Maybe not in this buyers market of a free agency year. He'd have to take about half that, though, for him to fit into the salary structure.

    Like I said...

    2020-04-02_0015.png

I don't think he will get 20 million with Harrell and other bigs on the market. I think he will be on the 12-15 million $ range. If that is the case we should definately offer him a good contract. Wood is a good defender, long, can block shots and shoot from the outside, can play both PF and C position and is a good firlt for either Collins and Capela. I have been praying to sign him already for 2 seasons, he is going to be an impact player.

  7. My list for the draft

Top tier: Best talent, Wiseman and Edwards, if they are available take them and run specially on that order

Second tier: I select this tier because of fit, Haliburton, Hayes and Okongwu. Haliburton and Hayes can be the defensive guard we need, they have decent upside too. Okongwu is an Adebayo clone, can play PF and C, will be a fantastic player.

Third tier: Not much difference with second tier on talent but worst fit. Toppin, Advinja, Cole Anthony, Ball. Not a fan of any as I don't see more star potential thsn 2nd tier and duplicate what we have.

Think about taking them if we are able to trade for a late fist, Carney Jr if we go with a G and RJ Hampton if we go big.

Sources saying that Pierce would most typically run with the first group as his primary starting five, and then incorporate either of the two other groups as games progress. Each group is constructed so that it contains both significant offensive and significant defensive assets.

(And yes, I admit it, I'm just doing my best to keep fanning the embers of basketball talk.)

I don't think Nwaba starts over Reddish, sorry no way. I think Reddish starts and Nwaba runs with 3rd unit. Probably 2nd unit is looking more like Ferrell/Huerter/Hunter/Milsap/Dedmon until Haliburton shows what he has

  9. I like the plan. Really like Haliburton as draft pick, fits well our roster. I also think Ferrell, Nwaba and Caboclo are creative picks with some upside that can produce on our system.

More question marks on Ingram and Milsap.

I am ok going after Ingram but if we do not get him and let's be honest I think we are not getting him, what is plan B?

And 12m$ for Milsap? He is already 35, his production has drop significantly, I think we should use that money on someone like Christian Wood or Bertans, players with more upside and real legs, Milsap is going to be challenged everytime on the court next season. We are talking about 4th salary on the team, let's get someone that can really produce and have some upside, Hawks need to get Wood.

Who's starting at center over Capela? Huerter is moving to the bench if it were up to me.

    Trae/Cam/Hunter/Collins/Capela

    Draft pick/Huerter/FA/FA/Dedmon

    Goodwin/Skal/Bruno

I think that might be what would happen. Halliburton or Hayes as draft pick and sign someone like Crowder, Wood or Bertans for the forward position. It might happen also that Skal takes that backup PF position or even that we go on draft day with a PF like Toppin or Okongwu. My dream scenario would be to draft Halliburton and sign Crowder and Christian Wood.

Since I obviously played in with diverting this some, I'll divert it back...

How would we all feel about an offseason of potentially...

Yogi Ferrell on a short, small deal.

Montrezl Harrell for 4 years at 17-20 million. (I know others aren't a fan, but it's a rumor that we're in)

Jae Crowder on a short, loaded deal.

That is not bad but I would prefer

    Draft Haliburton

Korkmaz on a short small deal

Wood for 4 years 12 m per year

Crowder on a short loaded deal.

  12. I don't think Trez is a good fit for the Hawks, at a lower price I think Woods is better at defense, rebounding and floor spacing, better fit for Capela and Collins. And he can be had cheaper than Trez. Trez offensively works on the same space as Capela, I don't see both playing at the same time

  13. I don't think we are trading rhe pick if is top 6. I don't see anyone offering anything valuable to trade the pick and I am intriguing with Wiseman, Edwards, Ball, Okongwu, Haliburton and Cole Anthony.

  14. I really think this team with Capela and Collins for 72 games and 1 additional year on Reddish and Hunter will make the playoff next year.

Not doing anything great but keeping Goodwin, Huerter, Dedmon, Fernando and adding 2 Forwards (one might be Skal) will make the team a playoff team, if we add valuable pieces on FA like Wood, Ibaka, Bertans, Crowder or Harris and we hit our pick we might surprise a few and if we trade Huerter for equal value but better fit (less offense, more defense) watch out.

  15. If you are going to build around Trae you need good defenders specially at SG and C. I think we might have that on Reddish, Hunter, Collins and Capela. The problem is that we need 2 years to develop our 2 rookies and we don't know how is going to work Capela and Collins.

What can we do in the meantime, I agree the intention is to sign a max FA.

Is there any at 2020? I don't think so. Ingram is a not a good defender, I prefer to wait for Reddish and Hunter. Drummond, I prefer the value of Capela at his salary that Drummond at max contract although I agree Drummond might be a better player.

Is there any at 2021? I think so, Davis, Giannis, George, Leonard. All would be a huge upgrade.

I think on 2020 the goal must be to keep adding pieces to the team and develop th core pieces. Sign key role players that fit our team like Wood, Bertans, Ibaka, Baynes, Crowder, Harris, Bogdanovic... Sign at a reasonable price not jeopardizing our chances at 2021.

And finnally and most would not agree but Huertee need to go, his lack of defense do not fit, trade him now while he has some value.

A mini me starting backcourt???  Hell naw. He maybe a good defensive PG....but he won't be able to guard SGs...he's 6'-0".

Earlier reports had FVV getting $20 million.

    Here's my list:

    PG: Kris Dunn

Wings: Joe Harris, Malik Beasley, Maurice Harkless, Korkmaz

PF: Davis Bertans, Montrezl Harrell, Paul Milsap, Christian Wood

Well he is starting with Lowry and is working fine, he could do the same with Trae. Not my preferred option though.

Dunn is a bad basketball player although I agree might work for us on 10-15 min. Other options might be Mudiay and Clarkson. Miney must be invested on players playing a meaningful role, I can see that on Wood, Beasley.... not so much on Harris, Crowder.... if Reddish, Huerter and Hunter meet expectations. Beasley I think is better than Huerter honestly speaking.

Sorry I should have indicated not overpaying and I realize a few on that list will get overpaid like Freddy VanVleet. But I don’t mind paying a bit more (if it’s only a bit) to have a nice lil bench mob that’s capable starting with my backup quarterback! (I realize that’s a back reference because backup qbs don’t get burn but you get it, my leader of the offense, the igniter.

Bertans and Van Fleet I think are going to ve at 15m$. If they go down to 10 million range definately are worth a gamble. I like Wood more than Bertans. Van Fleet is the best PG option, no doubt. He can start with Trae and bring defense.

That's quite the dream. All of them for less than $10m? I'll grant you that it's going to be a very difficult market for players, given how few teams there will be with any cap space, but even given that circumstance, I'll be surprised to see Wood, Harris, or any one from Spud's list get less than $10m on their own, let alone any 3 collectively.

No, no I meant 10 each, sorry. 10 for Wood is a good price for me, 10 for Harris, too much for me, I would go for Korkmaz or someone else. 10 for Crowder, no way, look for other cheaper option

  19. I haven’t changed my mind.

Frontcourt help: Christian Wood, Bertans and Ibaka, best fits for us. We could even go with Baynes. Best prize is Wood.

Wing hell: Joe Harris, Crowder, Bogdanovic, Korkmaz

PG options: Don’t like any, perhaps Dragic, too expensive. Napier is the best but I am not sure about the fit with Young, ideally we need a big PG with good defense that can run the point but Napier is really a good player.

Dream scenario for me Wood, Crowder, Joe Harris and draft Halliburton. Sign all of them for less than 10m$ and keep cap space for next year FA class.

I would add that real dream scenario would involve trading Dedmon for a good PG and sign Baynes for a really cheap contract

    Young/Backup/Haliburton

    Reddish/Huerter/Halliburton

    Hunter/Harris/Crowder

    Collins/Wood/Crowder

    Capela/Baynes/Bruno

13 guys rotation with 2 spots for a young PF and a young wing like Skal Labissiere and a Nwaba for example.

  20. I think we are still on BPA mode.

In my opinion tier 1 this year is Wiseman and Edwards, if they are available draft then and do not look back.

On tier 2 I like Haliburton, Hayes, Cole Anthony, Lamelo Ball, Okongwu and Toppin. I still have not separated them in groups qnd like all of them for some reasons.

Will be surprised to see much left over if we were to have Crowder, Bertrans and Harris. But one thing I might not be giving enough credit is that, again, it will be as buyers market as it ever gets, so that could lead in itself to some more digestible prices.

I don't think Cowder or Harris should command more than 6-8m$, specially Crowder. Bertans is probably going to require around 15m$ to sign that is why I think we should go with Wood for 10 or less, I like Wood more than Bertans.

If Harris requires 10-12 to sign I would give that money to Beasley and see what happens.

  22. I think by the time season ends we will realize we have two stars on Young and Collins and some robust building blocks in Huerter, Reddish, Hunter and Capela. After the draft we will another solid building block in Haliburton, Cole Anthony, Toppin or Okongwu and then the FO will need to decide. Clearly we will be lacking defense, size and some veteran presence, shooting will also be a priority. Assuming we get a backup PG on the draft I think we will go after a PF with shooting capability (Bertans and Wood are my options) a SF (Crowder I think fits best) and a wing (Joe Harris, Beasley, Korkmaz). These are my choices as FAs we should go after, make a solid team, make the playoffa and save cap for 2021. This team will be top 6 team

    Young/Haliburton/Goodwin

    Reddish/Huerter/Harris

    Hunter/Crowder/Reddish

    Collins/Wood/Crowder

    Capela/Dedmon/Fernando

  23. hace 56 minutos, JayBirdHawk dijo:

    Harrell won't log 30 minutes.

You know minutes never work exactly the same game to game depending on foul trouble or just how the game flows, what's needed etc.

JC plays the bulk of the minutes at PF, Clint plays the bulk of the minutes at C. Dedmon and Clint gets what left.

It just gives Pierce more lineups to experiment with.

I am completely convinced adding a front court player a wing and a forward that can provide defense, experience and shooting will immediately take this team above 40 wins. Add Ibaka or Wood, Jae Crowder and Joe Harris to the natural growth that will add Young, Collins, Capela, Huerter, Hunter and Reddish and you have a playoff team that could beat some teams next year.
