Part of the 3 year signing plan is to be ready for 2023/24 FA Period. If things don't work out with this seasons signings, Championship Caliber Team is what I am talking about, they all clear and we go again. Most of our young players will be young vets by then. Plus if they are not bad signings a disgruntled superstar package would be easier to put together.

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced this is the free agent period we should own. Its the one we can come from a position of strength. In 2021 we will probably be seen as a superstars bargaining chip at best.

The only chance we have to be seen as a Free Agent destination is to reach the playoff, win round one and then everything you add is a plus. If we manage to do that you would immediately be seen as a front runner to NBA title, at the end more than half of your core have the best years of of basketball coming in the future, that is a situation you will not have on any other team.

we can get to that position on a healthy season from Capela, Collins, Young,  Reddish and Hunter, add Huerter and Dedmon, Goodwin and a Backup PG and add free agents as Wood, Bertans, Ibaka, Joe Harris, Crowder, Korkmaz.... and you have a playoff team that can be top 4 on the east.

Adding those players this summer gets you to a better position and might bring another price in terms of a superstar free agent. Wood, Ibaka, Harris, Crowder... all of them can be signed for reasonable money that would not put at risk position to sign a top FA on 2021.

Schlenk may see us as a weak location to attract any of the top tier free agents in 2021. I really don't think we have a snow balls chance in hell at Giannis, LeBron, George, Leonard, AD, Etc .. Our history definitely supports that assumption. I know he will steer clear of bad signings; but good signings are still tradeable assets. You will not here me gripe if he goes all in on this free agent class; so long as its not stupid signings that get us another Bazemore ( 12 PTS, 4 REB, 3 AST for 17.5M a year ).

Three year deals seem to make the most sense to me on long term signings. By then all our picks should have some direction and we will know what needs to be done. Maybe do team options on the 3rd or even a 4th year.

I think I like that idea better than thinking one of those HOF Players is going to drop in our laps as a free agent.

I don't think we have a chance at Giannis or Davis. I don't think we should invest 20m$ on Harrell, I think Wood or Bertans are much better fit at lower price. Bertans should command 12-14m$ and Wood should take 8-10m$. Wood has similar RAPTOR WAR stats than Harrell and will only improve. He is a good defender, can space the floor and rebounds well, he is exactly what the doctor ordered for us. I have been saying he was the best fit for us the last 2 offseasons, if Atlanta has not signed him probably won't do it. I knew he could do exactly what he is doing at Detroit now. He is the reason Detroit let Drummond go.

Wood is a great fit next to Collins and Capela, we would have the best young frontcourt on the NBA. But I agree that if we do not see Collins as a piece of our future Harrell would be a great addition, the really important issue is that Wood is a great fit no matter what you add, he is good at everything, offense, defense, rebounding, shooting...

Couldn't agree more.  We are still terribly lacking in consistent shooters.

I agree, signing players like Joe Harris, Bertans, Crowder or Korkmaz should be a priority, I think we might need 2 to be competitive.

    Young/Halliburton/Goodwin

    Harris/Huerter/Reddish

    Hunter/Crowder/Reddish

    Collins/Bertans/Wood

    Capela/Dedmon/Fernando

    let’s go conference finals!!

Harrell and Dedmon off the bench...Dedmon's ability to spread the floor while Harrell works inside.

If you sign Harrell means he will play 30 min, assuming Collins and Capela also play 30 that leaves 6 min to Dedmon. Let’s assume CLP figures out to exactly use the 6 min of Dedmon with Harrell, then you have to share 24 with either Collins or Capela, I don’t like the fit with Collins or Capela for 12 min each.

Now if you tell me that 12 min are going to be with JJJ and 6 with Dedmon..... hey I can live with 12 min with Capela and all his minutes at PF.

  5. I am just not convinced about the fit between Harrell and Capela, I doubt they can play together. Other than that I like the player, I think he would really make us good, but our center is Capela and that leads you to a different direction at the PF.

One thing I was thinking today, would Memphis be interested on a trade Collins+Huerter for JJJ. JJJ, Harrell, Capela and Dedmon might be more playable.

Of this list I would lock up Christian Wood over Skal (but Schlenk like Skal for a reason we will hopefully soon find out) but I believe Wood is more of a proven 3pt shooter and can be had for cheap and I would give Sap a 1 year deal.

so with our cap of about 50mil in cap space, I would assume Sap and Wood would take up close to half of that. Sap will get 10-15 mil & Wood could probably be had for 10 mil per season.

    BIG man rotation:

    PF-Collins/Sap/Bruno

    C-Capela/Dedmon/Wood

....All these guys could probably play both PF and Center honestly if need be but anyways like this deeper rotation Over adding just Trez. The only signing better to ME would be to sign Bertans. Trez I do like but I do not like his overall fit with this team!

now!....we could still sign Trez and that may very well happen but in my opinion....MY OPINION....if we sign Trez we would STILL have to add 2 more big men who can shoot in order for everything to fit and work in the front court therefore more money is spent in the front court not just because Trez has a name and will likely get 20 mil but also because we need a good amount of bigs that can space the floor around Capela and Trez.

so say we take on Trez....if that’s the case we obviously wouldn’t sign a Sap to any kind of deal. Instead we’d probably go cheap for bigs who can or shown the potential to space the floor consistently.

    BIG man rotation:

    PF-Collins/Trez/Skal/Bruno

    C-Capela/Dedmon/Wood

we get Trez we need to keep Skal on a cheap deal (easy to do probably), add Wood (he will probably be about 8- 10 mil), and the development of Bruno will still be taking place.

We are either going to sign 2 big men not including Trez or we are going to shed out more cap and sign 3 big men including Trez along with 2 big shooters to ALWAYS make sure the floor STAYS spaced well.

I have been the Hawks to sign Wood for the past 2 years. He is a perfect fit for either Capela and Collins, can play the 4 and the 5, defends well and is a good rebounder. He will show up now in Det, is already doing that. I think he could contribute more than Sap honestly and fits better than Harrell. I would keep Skal, sign him and round he rotation with Bruno. Spend some money on a wing.

    Collins/Wood/Skal

    Capela/Dedmon/Bruno

  7. I am ok drafting a PG, my preferences would be Hampton, Halliburton, Hayes or Anthony. At PF then on fee agency I like Wood or Bertans. I have been calling for Wood already 2 seasons, Detroit is going to give him an opportunity and he is going to show. You will see how he performs.

alternatively we could go drafting someone like Okungwu or Toppin and bringing back Teague or signing Napier or other PG.

For the wing I think the best option is to go for Free agency, I like Crowder, Joe Harris and Korkmaz.

  8. I don't like the trade, I think we should have got something else in return. Dedmon is not much better than Len, add Parker and probably both have more value than Dedmon.

Having said that he has been a good fit here and is a good fit to Capela, we needed s stretch big. Additionally he is not risking our position for 2021 free agency.

I understand the reasons why we made this but do not like what we got in return for Len and Parker

  9. Josh Richardson would be our best wing defender, he can shut down best wing on the opposing team and can share ball handling duties. He was developing a nice offensive game last year at Miami. He would really be a nice addition at a reasonable price. I doubt we can make a run for him. He is signed for a really reasonable deal at 10m$ for 3 seasons. Honestly speaking he would become our 4th best player tied with Capela for the 3rd. Philadelphia traded Butler for him, obviusly there is a reason.

Almost all stretch 4s who are decent or better are extremely overpriced

Yeah I know, but we need to find someone. Bertans is obvious target this offseason, Ibaka can be another option, Wood is one of my favorites, no doubt, Marcus Morris although I do not like the guy..... I am not sure if Crowder might be also an option....  any other option out there?

In some way that is why I think Len might be an option as backup C.

  11. hace 3 horas, NBASupes dijo:

Our two needs moving forward is what to do with Parker. He has played well for us but what if we can get that shooter we covet for him on the wing.

Lastly, Damian Jones and Treveon Graham. What can we get for them even with a pick added.

Shooting off the bench is the need. We need another wing shooter with Cam. We also need more defense from the bigs. Capela is one but that's all. We need at least one more.

We got a lot of cap room. We could actually help GS and get Kevon Looney who Travis badly wanted this offseason but for an even better price. I think that might be something to look into.

    My personal targets are:

    Jordan McRae

    Malik Monk

    Kevon Looney

    Alec Burks

    Glenn Robinson III

    Joe Harris

    McDermott from the Pacers

    Tomas Sotrasky

    Al Farouq Aminu

I think McRae would fit on a scorer of the bench role nicely. Burks would fit as well but he is too injury prone.
Looney might be a good addition too but Capela, Looney and Bruno... perhaps they are too much the same player, I would like to add a big of the bench that can spread the floor, Len can do that.

Yeah certain players are worth it but im just not that big a fan of this free agent class compared to 2021's.  it just doesn't look that strong at all for guys i would think are worth multi year deals.

Not strong but offer quality players than could be signed relatively cheap as Noel,  Wood, Crowder, Joe Harris, Korkmaz, Baynes.... Evn Bertans I think. Those are the signings we need now

  13. hace 10 minutos, falconfan13 dijo:

My thing with this is i don't want us to blow our entire budget on guys with multi year contracts.  I would much prefer to overpay a talented player for 1 year to get the team into the playoffs than pay a little less for a guy for multiple years that eats into our 2021 cap space.    2 or 3 1 year over paid free agents but talented ones im more than ok with.   Then in 2021 go wild as you can on whatever max players you want to add to the team.

It depends on the player but now you have the finnancial flexibility to do that, there are cheap guys out there

2k heads, Capela is a 86 overall. 2nd highest rated Hawk next to Trae who's a 90 overall.

    Gives the Hawks three studs.

What a freaking coup for TS and all it cost was a Brooklyn 1st where the likely pick wouldn't even be in the rotation next year. Wow!

People need to realize about the importance of this deal. We got a young center on a reasonable contract that will be around when our young guys are developed, at a mid round pick cost, this is a hell of a move.

If we do not lose our head on the offseason and add some pieces that can help I think is sure to say that we are a playoff team next year and a threat to conference finals in 2 -3 years.

stay with your plan Travis and round the team on 2021.

now we are on the radar of some free agents

  15. Damn that was a fantastic trade. We got a young center signed on a good contract for 4 years, a guy that fits our team for Turner and BKN pick. That was really a fantastic trade. Congrats to Schlenk!! Now core looks better, we have 2 bigs.

Young/Huerter/Reddish/Hunter/Collins/Capela, a step in the right direction.

although it probably hurts our chances at draft but this is an opportunity we were not going to have in 2 months, great!!

  16. I think chances are we stay pat and do nothing.

hopefully we add Capela or Adams, I am ready to move from OKC pick and BKN pick and give whatever vet is needed to make deal work, but taking Wiggins or Love would be a major mistake.

I prefer to stay pat do nothing lose all games, have a top 3 pick and round the team with 5 FA, not losing the financial flexibility and stay on the best position to make a run at 2021 FA.

no move this deadline or this summer will make us a contender but can ruin the chance to be a contender on 2-3 years. Stick to he plan

we can be a playoff team with 5 additions this summer and a young core growing each year.

OK.  Let's keep the pick and wait several more years to compete.  Let's see how long it takes anyone drafted in the top 5 of the 2020 draft to get to 3 plus WAR for a season.

Seriously if you think Poetl and Carroll are going to make this team compete you have a serious problem.

perhaps is time to accept no matter what we do this summer we will not win 60 games next year but if we keep doing things like these years in 2-3 years we can be competing for conference finals. We are investing in future and I will say one last time, it took GSW 5 years to compete, we are in year 2.
