  1. Players that will be around next year

    Trae

    Huerter

    Hunter/ Reddish

    John Collins

    Fernando

Picks we should be doing assuming we are a top 5 pick and 17-20. Edwards, Wiseman, Stewart, Carney Jr.... should be target with own pick, we could even trade down. BKN pick for Hampton, Maxey, Halliburton, Kilian Hayes or Maledon

FAs to target, we can go cheap with some FA like Tyler Johnson, Korkmaz,  Crowder, Baynes, Wood, Henson, Giles, Bertans, Noel or try to go big with Drummond, Joe Harris or even Ibaka.

    some likely scenarios

    Young/Tyler Johnson/Hampton

    Huerter/Reddish/Korkmaz?/Hampton

    Hunter/Bembry/?

    Collins/Wood/Fernando

    Drummond/Stewart/Fernando

    Cheaper scenario I like more

    Young/Tyler Johnson/Hampton

    Huerter/Joe Harris/Hampton

    Hunter/Reddish/Bembry/

    Collins/Wood/Bertans

    Ibaka/Stewart/Fernando

there are some big FAs apart from Drummond or Harrell that would be really serviceable here and we can promise minutes and roles they cannot have out of here like Bertans, Giles, Vonleh, Baynes, Ibaka, Noel, all of them would be huge upgrades. Even Whiteside or Tristan Thompson could be really valuable here.

  2. Well, Cam and Hunter can struggle, that does not mean they will not be fine medium or long term.

This team long term potential starters are obviously Trae and Collins and Huerter and Hunter. Parker, Cam and Bruno could become important players with Cam having a much highest ceiling and of course lower floor, very uncertain his future right now although I have confidence in him. Bembry and Jones might be options at the end of the bench. We clearly need to complete the team with 4 players at least, two rookies and 2 FA. I can see us getting Wiseman and a backup PG or Anthony Edwards and a backup PG. A big FA and another wing might round the team. This is going to be a transition year but next year we can compete again

  3. Well most of you clearly do not agree with me but perhaps there is a reason why other guys are not stepping up, Trae need to learn how to play off the ball, Huerter and Reddish need to have the ball on their hands more often. We cannot make a team that just stay watching Trae on offense and just touch the ball on an alley hoop or a wide open three, that is not the way guys will feel confident and develop as a key players, they need to feel they are important, they need to develop their confidence, they need to feel the team needs them, they will not develop if they think they are just there to make the dirty work for Trae to shine. You know what? That is exactly what happenned at OKC with Westbrook.

Look at Prince and Blaze, they are having better seasons on playoff teams where it is more difficult to earn minutes presumably.... is it a coincidence? I don’t think so.

  4. I think Trae is a great player but he needs to stop playing hero ball. There are a lot of possessions that is just him touching the ball until he shoots, no ball movement, nothing else until he gets the shot or the amazing assist. We will lose all games if we play like that. That is something for CLP to deal with, same happen to him and team mates at college.

  5. We have some players that can play at NBA level: Young, Huerter, Crabbe, Bembry, Collins, Parker and Len

and 3 rookies that we need to give minutes in Reddish, Hunter and Fernando.

Considering that Collins is out we are extremely thin at PF and C position and we clearly lack a backup PG, Turner does not seem like an option really.

with Crabbe back I think Pierce should reconsider his lineup, we need some scoring on the starting unit and also a better defense

while Collins is out I would go with

    Young(35)/Wallace(13)

    Huerter(28)/Crabbe(20)

    Bembry(25)/Reddish(23)

    Hunter(25)/Parker(23)

    Len(22)/Fernando(18)/Parker(8)

I think this is the best balance we can make on offense/defense by a mile

I like what we are doing for five reasons.

    1. Kevin looks like he lost his explosiveness and looks like Bellineli but without Belli movement skills. He just looks bad and the worst player overall on the team.

    2. Bembry is too up and down on both ends to start.

    3. Like with Trae as a rookie, I'll rather take the good with the bad to develop him for the future.

    4. From his lineup optimization, he needs to play as much time with Trae Young as possible. He plays his best with Trae as Trae can carry an offense and most others just can't play with Cam right now offensively. Just too raw.

    5. While he does hurt our offensive rating, he is exceptional to our defensive rating and is our most important defender by a mile even if Bembry might be our best defender at this time.

Even if Cam started hitting his shots, there is a number of other things he does offensively that needs a lot more development. This is why you got some in the fanbase suggesting the G-League and it would make sense if he wasn't so valuable and damn good defensively.

I see the positives but I don’t agree Huerter has been the worst player on the team, might be true on a small sample size however Huerter has already  demonstrated he can be a good starter. Huerter is not working in 2nd unit and Cam is not working with the first unit.

Anyway after last game I have clear our 2nd unit should be Wallace, Cam, Bembry, Parker and Fernando.

  7. The question for me is do we make a run for Drummond in FA? Or we trade for Adams or Capela? I think that if we show we xan contend, Drummond would make us top 3 team on the east. Drummond + our young core with 1 year more + 2 picks + additional FA.

    Young/FA/ Wallace/pick?

    Huerter/Reddish/pick?

    Hunter/Bembry

    Collins/Parker/pick?

    Drummond/Fernando/pick?

  8. Huerter is better player today than Cam in my opinion. There are pros and cons of Huerter been on the 2nd unit. For me the most important thing is the minutes they play and Huerter, Cam and Hunter need to play 30 min. If that is starting or on the bench is less important.

Right now Cam starting is working well, his defense is changing the games, his offense is work in progress, his 3 pt shot is off now, 0 of 9 in 2 games... if he is starting he can come slowly offensively and his defense helps a lot the starting unit. 2nd unit need spacing and some ball handling and Huerter fits perfectly there, Bembry, Turner are good defenders, Huerter defense can be hide better there and his offense and passing ability helps a lot Turner.

However the same works for Cam development, he could take more responsibility on the 2nd unit as ball handler and as a shooter and that would make wonders for his development, he fits as well as Huerter. And Huerter offense would be perfect on the first unit, I think Collins is missing him and while Hunter and Len are finding his offensive rhythm Huerter would be a great help and would alleviate some pressure on Young, he cannot play like now forever.

I would stay like this for some games and then when Cam and Huerter are at full speed change and see how it works, I see both options with positives and negatives.

  9. What is true is that I have not been so excited about this team ever. We have added some valuable pieces, the 3 rookies look like players that will contribute on the future of this franchise and make with Young, Huerter, Bembry, Parker and Collins a good group. Hopefully Len is joining soon but I would say we are 2 pieces away of been a good team.

Season is long and improvement is key for all players. To assume Cam can't improve based on what you have seen so far, you might as well write Trae off as a bust and Kev should have been in the G League and Omari was our best value pick but the season is long

Oh no, I was making a different point. I think Cam will improve and I think he needs 30 mpg this season but some people ara acting as we already have on Hunter what we will have forever and that is not true. Even if Cam improves a lot he will have a difficult time to achieve Hunter’s level and I am sure Hunter is going to improve a lot this season

Cam has unlimited upside. He clearly has the higher ceiling but the lower floor at this moment. That doesn't mean Hunter can't be a star, he doesn't have the talent Cam has.

I could agree with that, but right now the Cam I see is too far from Hunter, you can see the potential but he lacks a lot of things, the jump he needs to make is huge on many aspects of the game. Hunter otherwise is already showing a lot and he will be improving for 3-4 years, he has the touch, he has the defense, he has the shooting, he is good on both ends already, he is already strong, I think he can finish the season with 14ppg, 6rpg, 2 app, 1spg, for a rookie that is amazing. I can see him improving those numbers till 25. Is easy to fell in love with Cam, but he cannot find the efficiency on offense, he cannot finish at the rim, he lacks strength.... he has to improve a lot to reach Hunter’s level.

My early hot take on the Hawks from one game is your two major questions mainly land on who's going to be the long term center and how you feel about Reddish (this is very open-ended). My vision is that Hunter is your quality role player wing and that you're probably completed by having a star caliber scoring wing that can play good defense playing with Trae in the long haul. Is that going to be Reddish? Stay tuned over the season.

And is that center potentially going to be Fernando? Also stay tuned.

    Your star player: Trae Young
Quality Role Player you see on winning teams: De'Andre Hunter
Scorer and great PNR player: John Collins
Shooter and good passer: Kevin Huerter

Current wild cards in which we'd like to see good development this year: Cam Reddish and Bruno Fernando

Everyone else involved are role players that might or might not be here even next year.

Right now makes more sense to consider Hunter your best chance for a wing all-star and Reddish your role player. Hunter might be 2 years older but at 21 he still can improve a lot.

  13. NO started from better position with Davis and Holiday.

They trade Davis for Ball, Ingram and Zion which is a good value. I think all of them can be all-star at some point, they did well.

Then added NAW and Hayes, they are great prospects too.

And they are looking to win now that is why they signed Favors and Reddick, which is good. They are deep and balanced but lack strength without Zion and lack shooting. They also lack cap space now and their core is injury prone.

On the other hand Atlanta is starting  from scratch as Charlotte, we have shooting and good ballhandling but lack defense, strength and size at center, we also lack depth BUT we are supposed to have another shot on the draft and we have tons of cap space to improve the team.

As a summary I think NO is almost done adding assets and we are not, probably is more fair to compare both teams next year, we are not looking to win yet.

Looney opted to stay with GSW for less.

Wood is on the Pistons roster, they cut Joe to keep him.

Birch, I'll have to look him up.

I know where they are, the issue is we did not even try to sign them. Now is when you can do this young bargain signings and get them minutes, when you are on win mode not rebuilding you just cannot do that. I think we are ding fine in the draft and weak on the FA, we can do better than Jaylen Adams, Evan Turner and Damian Jones, much better
