  1. Funniest to me was the significant number of Yankees fans helping Tribe fans show dude the door. Will Bron have to resort to Marlins caps now? ~lw3
  2. Iso-Booz FTW? Here's hoping he's gotten a call. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2010-07-28/sports/ct-spt-0729-bulls-chicago--20100727_1_bulls-summer-league-team-tom-thibodeau-pete-myers ~lw3
  3. Wesley's hoping to be featured soon, in "The Exconvicts." ~lw3

    To ASG

I'll buy the same number of tix anyway, I'm no good at holding Hawks seats hostage. I suspect the real net gain for A$G is the casual fan who doesn't know Hawksquawk exists. Now how closely I sit to the floor (read: $$$/game) has more to do with my confidence level in their NBA contention, and signing Shaq (and one more cheapo SF or PG player) makes the need to buy binoculars much less important. ~lw3
  5. I'm with coachx on this one, although I believe the financial-straits angle for Lo's case is at best premature. As I mentioned above, while we see these guys as hoopsters and human highlight reels, others see them as exploitative targets. Yet it's not just the stick-up kids on the corners, but the Dykstra-esque characters who boast of elixirs for long-term financial sustenance to anyone who'll listen. Athletes are routinely suckered into real estate and financial deals from ill-intentioned friends and their associates, who will in turn use their celebrity names to gain their own questionable enterprises even more legitimacy. The NBPA and other player-rep groups have got to take more of a role in sifting out shady characters and shady business plans, and the players individually have to be more vigilant in listening to them. ~lw3

  7. If he can play SF and get outta the way of LeBron's posters, great. ~lw3
  8. If we really need one, HERE's the Exhibit A example of how not to be spending your time and money in Memphis. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4344768 ~lw3
  9. http://www.myfoxmemphis.com/dpp/news/crime/060309_Cold_Case_Former_Tiger_Gunned_Down The bigger factor than money management is that basketball players (especially those with some measure of reputation) are sitting ducks in communities where they should be retiring heroes. As 'Toine would acknowledge, stick-up kids could care less how many homes you just foreclosed, what charities you just donated to, or how many kids you have to feed. A renowned Memphis high school. college, and NBA player cannot survive getting a haircut in the Memphis area. A Charlotte player can't leave his wife safely at his gated subdivision home when he heads out of town for a basketball camp. Those who entertain us to make a living should not have to be spending their playing days and their post-retirement days glancing over their shoulders and shielding their families because some fool thinks they've got a few loose bills left over in their pockets. It's bigger than financial security... it's security. ~lw3
  10. http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/shaqbecomesthe_bighomeless_99185204.html Another article from a spurned-city sportswriter, but it confirms the perception: Shaq will burn bridges, but not while he's standing on it. That's not the definition of a "cancer." ~lw3

  12. Bring all the Deacs here (okay maybe not J-Ho, but everybody else), then change our name to the Atlanta Demon Hawks. ~lw3
  13. Thanx 'teke for the clarification. Also noteworthy is that bipolar disorder/mental illness is never a good predictor for identifying the next murder victim in the NBA (re: D. West, assuming there's no stories of him that you were referring to having squandered his finances), and it's best not to use someone's untimely demise to project the fates of others anyway. ~lw3
  14. SI's memorial article on Lorenzen's version of TeamDime, the "Wright Stuff": http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/jon_wertheim/07/28/lorenzen.wright/ ~lw3
  15. I saw that, too, and figured it was not apropos timing to say something, but I admit I chuckled a bit too. Poor CB4/Ru! Lo's tweets and re-tweets were not exactly the kind of things you'd want on your front page if you had designs on offing yourself, or had any suspicions you were not long for this world. Gotta be leaning toward foul play officially, soon, but of course it's premature until the PDs say something publicly. ~lw3
  16. The tragedies in his life included a father who was paralyzed by gun violence while Lorenzen was 10, and an infant daughter who died from SIDS. Teammates on his rookie-year 1997 Clippers team included the late Malik Sealy and Kevin Duckworth, along with the recently-paralyzed Rodney Rogers, and Dwayne Schintzius who has been recovering from surgery following a bout with leukemia. ~lw3
  17. On his last tweet (apparently he really embraced his AWA-style middle name as of late) he asked "why," but his question was in response to a friend suggesting he return his Twitter name to "Lorenzen Wright." If I'm reading it correctly, that tweet came about 12 hours before his ex-wife said he left her house. Hopefully we'll get more news on the veracity of the source-reported 911 call (why this wasn't reported during his "disappearance" until now is baffling), the barbershop visit, and the timelines for all that, but it appears as of noon on the day before his disappearance he was certainly tweeting as if nothing was amiss, particularly nothing to indicate a self-infliction was pending. ~lw3
  18. If we got all the league's "Deacs" here not many would complain. :-) ~lw3
  19. He could've been E.F. Hutton and still lost his life to senseless violence. We should avoid generalizations about (living or hanging out in Memphis, managing money, looking like you have money, having X # of kids) anytime, but most especially at the early stages of this investigation. ~lw3
  20. Was hoping the ex-Hornet coach would be Robert Pack, but this will do fine. ~lw3
  21. Condolences to Lorenzen's family and friends. ~lw3
  22. Take half the year off, stay in shape, do cameos and TV shows, sign with a contending team for a few million after the All-Star break. ~lw3
  23. When KG gets in people's faces, he has a tendency to drop his chin. Just puttin' that out there... ~lw3
