  1. Jenkins is as good a shooter as you will see in the college game. 2/3s of his shots were 3s, basically averaging 4/9 for threes per game.He attempted 10 or more threes in a game 10 times in 36 games. He never attempted less than 5 threes in a game last season. The man is a 3 machine. We just drafted JJ Reddick with an extra 25 pounds, a few inches of wingspan, and better upper body strength. FYI, Reddick shot and made about the same # of 3s in his JR and SR years as Jenkins did his JR.
  2. He may be the worst Hawks big man to ever start a game. We need him back to prove Sund right!
  3. I don't get the Darko love either. At 850k to play 5 minutes a game it is hard to argue against any 7 footer though, even a tree stump.
  4. 1. Clearing the 2 worst contracts on the team, two of the worst in the league and acquiring no multiyear deals (guaranteed at least) and a pick.2. Using the MLE to get a young starter on the way up. Williams could be a Hawk for some time. 3. Using only the TPE from #1 to get a 40% 3 point shooter with an expiring contract at a position of need (backup SF) (OMG the hawks using the TPE to add wins in a rebuilding year!) Number 3 is the most surprising because it effectively meant convincing the owners to pay about 4.1 million more this year than they could have otherwise. I wonder if Ferry will convince the owners to use the biannual exception for a multiyear deal and the go just into the tax next year having used that and the MLE, sign 2 players to come up tom the cap then max Josh and sign minimums/rookies. That would be something with our turd ownership.
  5. Petro is at least as good as Collins and Dampier and we already have to pay him like 3 mil. He played 15 minutes per game for the Nets, Collins 10 and Dampier 5 for us. His PER was a pedestrian 10. Collins' PER was an abysmal 3 and Dampier a not much better 5. He is big and takes up room. Unfortunately, cap room too.
  6. Would be a fine pickup as a vet min, but do we even have a roster spot left if we keep Scott?
  7. Sorry Josh, no more threes for you. Korver, Williams, Morrow, and Jenkins are all among then best. I like to see the idea of stretching the court and having 2 shooters out there no matter the point in the game. No SF and no real means to get one could be a problem though.
  8. Our offer doesn't come close to Houston's. This is a Hershel Walker trade. 5 1st round picks from the past 3 years, a second rounder from last year, at least a lottery pick in 2013, and they take on every multiyear deal Orlando has. Orlando becomes the NBA's youngest team, can offer 2 max deals in 2013, and will likely have 2 lottery picks, to go along with 3 talented 2nd year players and a host of price controlled restricted players. Can we send them Josh and Horf and get the same deal? This is nuts.
  9. His pay is Zaza range. I expect his minutes and role to be Zaza-esque. 3 of Jenkins, Harris, Morrow, Williams, and Teague have to be bench players. That is a good problem to have.
  10. Let's assume we are done with trades and multiyear guaranteed deals for a moment. What are our scant 2013 roster projections (Teague, Horf, L. Williams, Jenkins) owed in 2013? It looks like we will be sign and trade sellers, have 4 picks, and the ability to sign at least one max, then offer Smoove right? Now that the JJ/Marvin deals are official, I THINK I like the sound of our 2013 situation. I just wonder what exactly it is.
  11. With the 150 rule, it sounds like the best offer we can ever make is Horf, Zaza, Teague and 3 picks for Howard and Jrich And the ownership has to be willing to pay the tax
  12. He has stepped up his game over the past couple of years and is right in his prime at 25. Phily is up there near the tax, perhaps they didn't cut him loose for no reason. He will be the 5th highest paid player, so continued results are expected. We don't have a star guard, but we have depth.
  13. If Orlando can really end up with 2 rookies, 3 1sts and $15 mil in expirings plus cash, we can't touch that.
  14. I guess we will never know, but if I did, I sure would be disappointed if we didn't offer Horford, Zaza, and Teague plus 2 1sts for Howard. We are not in a position to take on Richardson or Hedo. Maybe Houston is.
  15. If we have D12, someone has to trade us $19 mil (not entirely true, and quite complicated) in players and a pick or two, or he will take a heck of a pay cut and have to play for the TWolves. The Nets cannot sign him otherwise.
  16. RE the "all or nothing" aspect- that isn't entirely true. The picks would be gone, Horford, and Teague as well, BUT:#1 we can offer 2 max deals - someone decent will bite#2 we have the valuable sign and trade rights to Howard, Smith, and Devon Harris. If any team over 58mil (all the good ones) want them, they need to sign and trade. I would be shocked if that trio did not bring back 2-3 picks in one form or another. #3 With a whole team of expired contracts we can sign and trade a couple to pick up an overpaid quality player too. In the end the Hawks can have 3 overpaid semistars and most of the traded picks back. Is that much different than 2011-2012? And that is the worst scenario. The best has D12, CP3, Smoove, Morrow, maybe Harris and a crew of vet mins playing for the conference title.
  17. Also, those picks ORL would get - 2013/2015/2017. Honestly, what is the present value of a low 2017 1st pick? Is that even worth a 2nd rounder in 2013? It is 5 drafts away ORL would be better off with a salary dump and 2 picks in 2013.
  18. In the 4 team madness, I really fail to see how the Cavs want to be involved. They get a low 1st for a salary swap that doesn't make them any more relevant. A multiyear deal with bird rights for Humphries? That seems to only work if Humphries gets an overpay 1 year deal maybe at 10-12 mil. We did that with Stephenson, who was worth the vet min in the open market, but is getting 3 mil from the hawks for a 1 year guaranteed deal. I also am surprised that Brook Lopez would agree to a multiyear deal as a sign and trade unless it is for MORE than he can get on the open market by using bird rights. Hard to imagine Orlando wanting to pay him $15 mil. No team under the cap wants tom offer him a non Bird max?
  19. Kobe, Wade, Harden, Gordon are the obvious ones for me. I woud take JJ in a heartbeat over Manu, Allen, Terry, and there is no such thing as a healthy Roy anymore. You might as well say "a 30 year old Michael Jordan."Monta is a tough one. Maybe a wash. Might lean towards JJ. JJ is 5-6 in the NBA at SG in my book. Probably 20-25 overall. Let's hope we replace him with a consensus top 20 next year or this was a horrible move.
  20. What would max deals for Harden or Jefferson be? Not $20 mil/year then?
  21. I do worry that if we miss out on CP3, D12, and Bynum that we end up with James Harden, Ibaka, Or Paul Millsap on max deals, same as the 3 big pickups get.
  22. Niremetal, surely you agree that he is on a downward path in the NBA. He didn't just have a fluke 1 year speed bump. He is not going back to the form that got him a max deal. His minutes, games played, ppg, shots taken per game, rebounds per game, even fouls per game have all declined. He is just not an all around star player like he was maybe all the way through The 9/10 season. He is not as involved in the game, maybe by a factor of 10-20% over the past 2 seasons. I don't care if he makes 8 more all-star games on name recognition, it doesn't mean he is one of the 25-30 most effective players in the NBA. And his salary goes UP the next 4 seasons. The Nets are somehow selling fans on this being the second coming of Lebron/Wade. This is more like Orlando getting Vince Carter in 2009 when he was 32 and barking about how Allstar Rashard Lewis, Allstar Jameer Nelson, and Allstar Dwight Howard would win it all. Carter never averaged 20 ppg after 32. Rashard Lewis fell off after 10 years in the NBA too.
  23. Where is everyone getting that Joe is a premier 2 or 3? It is like we are all just remembering the good times from 2005-2008 when he was in his prime. Some see, to think going to a team that was worse than the Hawks will somehow turn this 31 year old into his 27 year old self again. I was a huge JJ fan, BUT, a reminder:1. His scoring average has fallen 4 of the past 5 years. 2. He has not averaged 20+ per game since the 2009-2010 season3. The # of games he has played in has dropped each of the past 4 seasons 4. His minutes per game have dropped each of the past 5 seasons These are trends people. Not flukes. I will root for Joe, but I fully expect his days of playing 80 games, more than 36 minutes, and taking 19 shots are over. He will be a valuable shooter and 17ppg scorer for as many as 5-6 seasons IMO. Would love to see him back at 1/3 price in 4 seasons in a 2012 Ray Allen role, but in 2 seasons I expect him to be a top 50 player at best and the NBA's highest paid player.
