  1. That is a fantastic breakdown. Thanks. Anyone under the cap can offer more than $16 mil for Milsap though right? We can offer $16 mil even after we spend to the cap. As crummy as Pero is bringing him back at $3 mil, Carroll at $5 mil, and Milsap at $16 would be a HUGE deal after bringing in a new player for $7 mil. You can get an exceptional player for $7 mil, isn't that around what Deng got? Sadly, I can't imagine THIS ownership group authorizing spending $24 mil over the cap. Hopefully, the new owner appreciates the opportunity.
  2. Ferry, someone, or a group of someone's, did a great job of putting this specific squad together. There were several great calls (Bud, Carroll, Milsap, Thabo, locking up Mike Scott, Joe Johnson trade, letting Smith walk, NOT trading Horf or Teague despite talk, and the bad ones aren't exactly hurting us much at all - Baze is like 3% of the salary cap, Lou is an awesome bench player but didn't fit this squad, Mack's deal doesn't hamstring the club even as a long contracted #3 PG. We missed on every major FA too, and now still have cap room for 2015/2016 instead of being stuck, and should have at least a mid round 1st.
  3. if I understand the early bird rights we have on him correctly (I probably don't - lol) we hold no advantage over the other teams in the league in signing him. He can sign a max 4 year deal with any team for up to 175% of his current salary. That would be something in the $16-17 mil range depending on exactly what we call his $9.5 mil deal is worth. I imagine he'd be worth that amount to just about any team with an opening at the 4 and the cap room. So is the likely scenario that ATL plus 2-3 ither teams offer 4 year 65 mil deals, and we just pray? If I understand the cap hold rules correctly, he'll have a cap hold of around $12 mil so after renouncing a few guys (Brand, Antić, Jenkins, whoever) we could sign a player or two up to the cap (maybe $7 mil, or $10 mil if we renounce Carroll) and then sign Milsap? If that is the sensible strategy, we could really get hosed if Milsap goes elsewhere. I can't see him being anything close to replaced for $13 mil.
  4. We'll either sign one more player or retain Brand for next year so it isn't like we are 100% done. Absent a significant move it does make you wonder about waiving Salmons and trading Williams. That would have put a decent player on the roster, the only difference is the Hawk's ownership saves paying salary. It's impossible to feel warm and fuzzy about a profitable Hawks team with a manageable non max payroll.
  5. One last chance to make that trade really pay. Things worked out Ok, but it wasn't exactly the slam dunk we were hoping for. No Nets players stuck here and even traded away our extra 1st for cap space a year later. A lottery pick would be sweet.
  6. This would be well worth the 4/62 offer. But we can't offer it now. :(
  7. Looks like 4/62 is the most he can be offered by another team, starting at 14.7 in year one. I don't like that at all and Pho would just match.
  8. 4/48 might scare me if the Hawks offered it. I'd say no to going 5 years or more money. That is just begging for an overpayed 3rd guard in a couple years that gets passed by a rookie.
  9. I'd be fine w up to 7-8 mil - he'd be a big upgrade over Brand and keep Payne from needing huge minutes if Horf or Sap were out. The Hawks have nothing else to spend on and only need a limited cap buffer for emergency moves.
  10. Who would have thought that Deng's agent would get to wait for Lebron and Melo and start a bidding war? Well played.
  11. So Bazemore gets the bi-annual and Thabo gets the MLE IF we make a big signing with the additional 10-11 mil? Sounds like a good plan. I guess plan B would be to just put them on the cap and save both exemptions for next year.
  12. So much negativity. The Hawks have maintained flexibility and will make 1-2 moves to total up 10 mil w/o offering a ridiculous max deal. There aren't that many spenders out there right now and once the Parsons thing works out by Sunday the Hawks will be in position to get a bargain 2nd tier contributor. This will be the deepest Hawks team in quite a while and full of shooters. The Hawks will effectively cut, waive, cap hold release, whatever you want to call it a player or two who will be signed elsewhere.
  13. This 2013 Hawks team is built to provide flexibility in 2014 and beyond. We traded 2 very productive, yet overpaid, players who would have added much to this team. Yet, the Hawks are tied for 4th among 15 teams in the east. LD must really suck.
  14. Bad contracts and expirings. Only a pick would have worth and a lottery protected pick isn't worth much when it might be deferred out 4 years. Someone will offer 4/70.
  15. Bucks seem to want to clear some cap space for 2013-14 to us just some can trade Smith. Sounds like a horriblemdeal for the Hawks. Smith/Harris for Ellis, Udoh and likely Gooden or Moute to make the salary work. Hawks would add 8-10 mil in backups for '13/14 and possibly drop out of contention for a max FA.
  16. We could trade Josh and Al for Kobe. That would be a horrific trade for us and a great one for the Lakers though. Or we could do Josh, Harris, and Korver or Zaza then sign 10 day guys to fill roster. That would be terrible for LA. Besides the fact Kobe would never agree it is a tough one to make the salaries work. To make a fair deal you probably need to swap 3-4 players each and ATL would have to include Teague, Josh, and expirings for Kobe along with Metta.
  17. Several teams have swapping rights with that pick. The Suns end up with the worst of Clevland, Sacramento and Miami or LA if LA is in the lottery. No way LA saw that coming when they traded that right for Nash. The Suns end up with a #25-30 OR a top 14. They are rooting so hard against LA. That's almost a top 10 pick right now.
  18. That Lakers pick has wacky conditions. It can literally be anywhere from #1-#30 and come from up to like 5 teams. Wouldn't give up a 1st for that. We could literally move backwards.
  19. Also Gortat for Smoove straight up (with that 1st ) rounder would be legal. Makes sense for both sides.
  20. The other 2 picks would be their pick - probable top 10 - or a pick that will be the Laker's lottery pick if they are in it, or Miami (likely #30).Their lottery pick is too good to trade and worthless as a protected pick. The Laker pick would be interesting as they are right on the edge.
