Another key is limiting turnovers. we don't need any lackadaisical passes from Dennis because Wall and Beal will be off to the races for easy offense for them. Keep them in the halfcourt and when D8 is in the game vs Gortat we should be able to clean up the defensive glass.

    I completely agree with this.

Porter is an outstanding defender. He has a history of completely quieting guys that are going off. He wasn't on Hardaway Jr that much in the last game.

They're bad defensively? So? They may be bad (they are) but Porter and Wall will lock Hardaway Jr and Schröder and that's the Hawks only threats on the perimeter.

To quote a famous basketball wife,  Otto Porter was a non motherfreaking factor in the 2015 playoffs.  John wall can not and has not kept Dennis out the lane.  Where is all this coming from?  These are all hypotheticals you are coming up with.

It's not the periemeter match up I'm worried about with the Wizards.  It's the fact the the Morris guy seems to play lights out and he guards Milsap pretty decently.

I'm in agreement with you that Washington is a tough match, but who you are talking about shutting down the respective Hawks player is completely inaccurate.   What Washington does well against the Hawks is attack the PnR and pull up in the midrange due to Dwight sagging off.   I trust Bud to adjust that in the playoffs.

You will never have an idea of how a playoff series is going to go until it happens. Once we get there, Porter will likely be on Hardaway Jr, and he and Wall are their good defenders, and I mean they're very good at defense when they're motivated. They are not good defensively as a team, but they have good defenders that can lock the Hawks biggest perimeter threats.

I mean Taurean would have to grow up in a HURRY (he'd have to play like Boston/Memphis every game) and Bazemore would have to play like first half 15/16 Bazemore, and even then it might just make the series a 7 game series. If neither happens, an ugly sweep is on the way for the Hawks.

Porter is now an all world defender?

You were the one that stated it would go like the 15 playoffs. I was just pointing out the fact that you can't guard the Hawks the same way.  Porter was put on THjr too and THjr still scored 29 pts in the last game.  I get it Washington is a tough match up, but it's not like they are Golden state where they have mismatches across the board.  If you hold Wall and Beal in check, there's nothing about that team that scares anyone.

    They are also TURRIBLE defensively!

This question is all about personnel usage.  We match up well against everyone but Bud just has to make the right personnel decisions...Something he struggles with.  For example, Bud likes to match Millsap with Kevin love which is basically suicide...Kevin love kills Millsap but Bud is too dumb to realize it.  Ilyasova is a much better choice but you know Bud won't see it that way.  I know that it is popular around here to blame the players for everything...I guess I just see things differently.

:blink:When has Kevin Love ever killed Milsap? Show me examples!  If I remember correctly, K. Love CAN'T guard Milsap.  The only player who seems to shut Milsap down offensively on the Cavs is Tristan Thompson.  However, if Dwight's on the floor TT has to guard Dwight and we all saw how that experiment went in the first game between these two teams.

The Wizards will be extra fueled because of their complete anger over 2015 and while their defense is bad, their best two perimeter defenders can lock the Hawks biggest perimeter threats.

It'd be an ugly sweep, like Toronto in 2015.

In 2015, you had Kyle Korver who couldn't create his own shot!  Bradley Beal did NOT fair well against THjr during the last game we played.   However, Beal shut Korver down in 2015. I don't see an ugly sweep.  It'll be a very good series. If the Hawks hit their shots, it very well could be an ugly sweep by the Hawks.

I kinda don't want any more wins after this one in the regular season. Use the next two as tune up games.

If not, Washington it is and I really don't want that.

Why is everyone so afraid of Washington? They only had 1 good game against the Hawks.  The others were tightly contested.  I don't see Washington as some unstoppable Juggernaut like the Warriors  or Spurs.   The Hawks match up well with all the top teams in the East if they play their game.  That's always a big if though.

So are we peaking at the right time? Going into the playoffs?

This roller coaster season continues with this improbable come back win.

We don't know anything with this team.  I want to say yes, but I don't want to jinx it.   The bench is playing similar to the start of the season and I think that's the key to the recent success.

  8. I think having Jose is a blessing.  We keep acting like Dennis is a vet. He's still young and learning. Most of the season NO ONE was making shots so it was up to Dennis to call his own number.  Now that others are making their own shot, I think Dennis needs to call his jump shot a little less.  If he's getting to the rim and scoring, I'm ok.   Overall, this was a good win and let's just enjoy the psychotic ride this team is surely to take us on in the playoffs.

  9. Ok, just to get this straight.  On a team that has been struggling to score and the only guy who can get his own shot ,at the moment is Dennis, you want him to pass first to a bunch of bodies that can't shoot? Da hell?  I would love to see Dennis pass more. However, I believe he's doing exactly what Bud wants because if he was not Bud would bench him.   Bud knows we have scoring issues and with Sap, Bazemore, and Thabo out recently the scoring falls on Dennis and Timmy.  If we had two great shooters, I believe you see Dennis passing up his shot a lot more.

I also believe Dennis is hitting a wall.  Hence his shooting percentages dropping and turnovers going up.

Oh, there was much more of a difference than just "guys hit their open shots". The ball was moving a lot more and it was much easier to create open looks. And I've said that even bad shooters will hit practice threes.

It wasn't just drive and kicks like we mostly saw, the ball was probably moving the most we've seen all season outside of the stunning Chicago comeback stretch.

This game should tell a lot of the story. Dennis fully buys in, he's just mistake prone. Despite RPM and blabla, he's not really the issue...

Lady what are you talking about?  Are you trying to turn this into a Dennis vs Dwight thing?  If so, they worked well together against Toronto a much better team the Grizzles at the moment.  This was a good all around win for the team and you are putting your agenda all up in this thread.  Dwight is doing EXACTLY what Bud brought him here to do. Our wings terrible performance cannot be blamed on Dwight.  They've missed tons of practice threes,as you call them, with Dwight in a game.  They just happen to make them tonight simple as that.

I don't think we have a Trade Exception that big to accept him in a trade.  We have Splitter's, Scot'ts, and Mo Williams', but unfortunately, TPE's cannot be combined to take on a player.  We'd have to send out matching salaries/players to acquire him.

Knight has 3 years left (after this year)  on his deal at $13.6, $14.6 and $15.6.

Tyson has 2 years left at $13 and $13.5

Thanks for dropping the knowledge JBH!

Do you have any idea why Teague's trade exception went away?

  12. 2 minutes ago, kg01 said:

That's a perfectly acceptable deal nowadays.  With Howard, no need for Chandler honestly.  Kinda redundant and not enough minutes to keep them both happy.  JMHO

And, yes, that playoff scenario would be sooo Hawk-ish.

I meant with 4 years remaining.

I think he's an interesting name who I didn't like at the beginning of the season but I really like for us now.  Just talent upgrade for me.  That's all I'm about now.  Is he better than DelaneySucks?  Of course.  He's also able to get his own shot and create for others (enough).

Only issue is he's a guy who's chirped about wanting to start.  Something he certainly would not be doing here.  The fact that PHX wasn't able to move him should be an indication that he might need to embrace a bench role.

Would be a good addition IMHO.  Baze + pick(s) to BKN, BlowPez to PHX (unlikely since they have Chandler), Knight to us.  Honestly, we could probably get him for cheap.  They should be looking to sell.

He's on a 5 year $70,000,000 deal with 4 million remaining which in today's NBA is a steal!  Then squeeze in Tyson Chandler on his deal and we can field a very competitive team next year.  Not looking past this season of course. Knowing the Hawks they'll get the 8th seed beat Cleveland in the first round and then lose to Miami in the second round..lol

  14. Do you guys think we will trade for Brandon Knight as a backup PG in the off season using trade exceptions?  I think he'll be a welcome fit.  His shooting has fell off a bit, but I believe Bud and the coaches can get him back up to par.   My dream scenario would be to do a three team trade ship Bazemore to the Nets, get Brandon Knight.  The Hawks probably would have to give up some picks in that scenario.

  15. I'm pissed about this loss!  However, I think the benching was a culmination of a lot of things.  Dennis was late coming back from Germany.  Dennis was late to the team bus to Orlando.  Dennis was the ONLY Hawk missing at a recent Hawk dinner for season ticket holders.  I think Bud is trying to let Dennis know that even though he may be the 2nd or 3rd best player on the team and is clearly the future, he needs to be a leader in everything he does and if this loss causes him to realize that then good.

  16. Hope for a superstar in the draft.  Is no one interested in Harry Giles? He definitely has superstar potential if he stays healthy.  Also, the nets second round pick is VERY valuable, we can get a pretty decent player on a nonguarenteed contract.  Probably a backup point or a guy that can score.

Trade Bazemore at all costs. Kenny A. please help us out. See if we can go after one of Denver's SF with the cap space.

    Resign THjr.

Resign Milsap -  I'm not sure they will resign Sap during free agency.  There may be a wink wink deal to get an extension worked out during the season.  That way the Hawks will have max cap space to work with during free agency which isn't very much in the first place.

    Resign Ilyasova

Sign Mason Plumlee as back up center

Send walking papers to all other free agents, Delaney and replace with young players.  -  too sleepy to go into all that detail.
