I'm fine with him staying a Hawk, but does it have to be for 16-20 million a year?

    No one is paying Hardaway $16 - $20 million.  He'll probably Get $9 - $12 million a year.

After dropping the first two games in Washington, Atlanta's chance of winning

    this first round was 15%.

Since that time, the Hawks have won two home games, reducing this to a best of

three games.  Has this changed the odds?

So far, both teams have won all their home games.  If this continues, the Washington

team has 100% chance, since they have two home games and the Hawks only one.

Can the "Cry Baby Hawks" manage to overcome the home court advantage and bring

home the round one title?  It seemed, in the first two games, too many things went

    wrong for the Hawks.

Shots refused to fall and too many free throws went astray instead of into the basket.

Kojack, the setter of screens, some of them actually legal, dominated.  Smith, the committer

    of fouls, did his thing.

Enemy territory, where things can and do go bad, is our target for tonight.  Can the Hawks

overcome their own mental problem about winning here and dig in and prevail?

Our point guards, saddled with 3 quick fouls each, prevailed in game four.  Washington's

one - two punch from their guards, prevailed in their scoring in all four games.  If we can

contain them somewhat and hold down Kojack, I like our chances, don't you ??

    GO ATL HAWKS

To answer your original question apparently they have a 32% chance of winning the series now.  Per the jackbutts over at PeachTree Whoops.  I'm glad I found Hawksquawk, because those dudes have gone completely off the edge with their negativety.  Win game 5 and that goes up significantly

Definitely like our chances now. Hoping the Wizard's starters start showing fatigue by the probable game seven since already feel like our bench will stay on the plus side of the plus/minus in each game. Wouldn't have necessarily said that a couple of weeks ago but the bench started having some impact the last week of the season. Beal is almost averaging forty minutes a game and Wall is just a couple of minutes less. Hope that seriously catches up with them.

Now that there is only one day of rest between games, this may actually catch up to them.  I don't think it'll show up until the fourth quarter of each game.  Coach Bud has not played any starter more than 36 minutes per game which is great for the playoffs.  Now if the Hawks were going against Cleveland, I'd say play Milsap and Schröder 40 minutes a game.

Lol Dennis seems more immature this season than his rookie year.

Hardaway's defense is awful. He's not a defensive guy. That's what Thabo is for. Hardaway need to make some shots.

Please elaborate on the Dennis comment? How is he more immature? He sure has been more mature in the playoffs.

Hardaway - you are just going with your preconceived narrative that his defense is awful.  In game one, his defense left a lot to be desired, but since then his defense has been average at the least.  Jose Calderon has awful defense.  Check out Bradley Beal's stats when THjr is guarding him.  You'll be surprised.

  5. In the first game of the series, I said Paul needed to play better.  Yesterday, he didn't have a great first three quarters, but like a great player, he, along with Dennis, took over in the 4th.   In year's past, Paul shrunk in the playoffs, this year the guy is average 23,5 pts, 8.8 rbs, & 4.3 assists.  He's stepped up and I can hear that dump trunk full of money backing up to his house.  This is when you earn your contract!  If we somehow get to the ECF with him again, I say PAY THAT MAN!

  6. If this team has taught us anything, it's to expect the unexpected.

Unexpected Jose Calderon getting on that juice and playing out of his mind! So much energy, just what the team needed.

Unexpected Baze playing like he's worth $70 million.

Unexpected Dwight moving light on his feet, setting excellent screens, playing tough defense, and rebounding like a mad man.

Unexpected that Milsap foul shot falling to the floor.

Expected - THjr getting that scowl back!  He needs to be as agressive as Bazemore at times.

All and all, the Hawks have this Wizard's team shook.  If they take the next game, I'll call series (in my Paula Pierce voice).

Edit: Also unexpected, Bud with the solid rotations!!!! Everything he did worked, can we bottle this and keep going for the rest of the playoffs?

  7. Just to add a little fuel to the fire

Indiana Pacers forward Paul George did everything in his power to keep his team competitive against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Unfortunately for George, he simply did not receive enough help from his supporting cast in what ended up being a four-game sweep by LeBron James and Co.

It’s just a continuation of what has been a drawn-out process between George and the Pacers’ organization. Simply put, the All-Star is in no way happy with how the roster has been built around him. It led to speculation about a potential trade from Indiana back in February (more on that here).

Now, with his Pacers eliminated from the playoffs, George himself will not commit to playing with the team next season.

In no way should this be considered a surprise.

First off, George is coming off an exhausting first-round matchup that saw him log 172 total minutes in four games. Secondly, there’s definitely been a rift between George and his team’s front office over the past several months.

While George himself has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers, he is not set to become a free agent until following the 2017-18 season. This means that the All-Star forward would either have to request a trade to Los Angeles or play out the remainder of his contract with the Pacers.

George, 26, averaged 28.0 points, 8.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists in the first round against Cleveland. He remains one of the top-five small forwards in the game. Should the Pacers and George decide to part ways during the summer, the trade market for his services would be plentiful.

First, BOS does not want Melo.  They have illusions that they can sign a real top-flight free agent.  Call it Horford fool's gold.  They don't want to tie up capspace paying Melo even just for 2 years.

Second, it seems George feels being in a low pressure, small market situation is hindering his career.  IOW, he'll be venue-shopping to get to LAL or some such big market.

Seeing how Prince has fared, and how George has topped out .... gives me pause here.  I mean, he ain't coming in to share the ball.  He wants to be an mvp guy.  I.e. he wants touches.  I'm not sure about this one anymore.

You bring up a valid point @kg01.  Today, he had Jeff Teague wide open for the three to tie the game, but he took it upon himself to shoot a contested shot that completely missed everything. However, Bud seems to have Dwight under control, maybe he can get PG13 under control.  Also, I'm not 100% sold on him going back to L.A. has Woj confirmed this?  If so, he will surely realize he will never get a title out there with the best teams in the West being relatively young.

The better alternative, believe or not, is Carmelo.  He's on a two year deal (with an opt out after one).  This gives the Hawks some scoring they need and after two years, they can let Taurean Prince take over the SF position as he enters his prime!

  9. Well I got my wish and per BSPN

    Nate McMillian said the following:

"We know we have a big mountain to climb. We're not talking right now about winning the series. We're talking about staying alive. You could lose a lot more than just this game if you don't approach this game the right way," McMillan said before Game 4 (1 p.m. ET, ABC). "... If you go out there and lay down and give them the game ... you lose respect; there could be a lot of major changes. There could be a lot you could lose. The big thing is losing respect from your fan base and from fans all over."

Would you give up Taurean Prince, Bazemore (only way to make the trade work, possibly a three team trade), and three first rounders (only 1 of the Hawks) for PG13?

Would he alone be enough to get the Hawks to the promised land?

Sort of a false equivalence. There is a lot more pressure on Lenoard to perform at a high level at this point.

Not false equivalent. I clearly said he was not on Leonard's level and is not taking the volume of shots. Who in their right mind would put Prince on Kwhai's level at this point?  My post was meant to show he has potential because someone said he couldn't shoot.

Didn't see this coming.  Damn good team win.  I don't expect to see efficient three point shooting next game, but winning the glass and scoring bunches in the paint should continue.

Dennis played a great game, didn't force anything, yet took everything available.  I'd prefer he'd take more FTs than 3s but I'm a nitpicking johnson.

Good job Bud, keep spoon feeding Prince $70M Kenneth's minutes.

Been a minute since I felt like Let's Go!

The Hawks only shot 36%  from three.  It seems efficient because they were like 1 -40 before this game.  I agree about Bud and his rotations as soon as Baze got a little out of control he put THjr in.  Dwight played the right amount of minutes.  I don't think coach cares if he's pouting or not.  Set good screens and played hard defense and they will award him every now and again.

Last night Mike Glenn mentioned on the Hawks pregame mention an interested stat. The Hawks are now 6-18 when D8 has 6 or fewer fg attempts.  Can someone please share this with Coach Bud. Too much iso with slow moving Millsap looking for a foul. Also Dennis shoot first mentality is killing the ball movement, which is not keeping everybody involved in the offense.

Dennis is the only player who consistently showed heart in both games.  He even bumped Gortat after his dunk.  I have a problem when people say Dennis is not passing the ball more.  Dennis started out sharing the ball, when he realized (1) No one could get pass their defender to save their freaking lives, (2) everyone was missing wide ass open shots, he took it upon himself to try and score.  Sometimes you scratch your head at some of his shots, but he was the only player able to create and score with ease against Washington.

I also believe Dwight's back is giving him a lot of trouble.  He straight man handled Gortat during the regular season. He was the only Hawks player to perform well against them.  You don't see Dwight moaning and complaining when he's been Sat late in games because he knows he's not 100%.  Just my two cents and speculation though.  If he isn't injured, someone needs to send up to two first round picks to any team willing to take him and Baze.

I think I've settled on this:

First round in general (maybe you can move up): Prizes to me would be Zach Collins, Isaiah Hartenstein, or Justin Patton. They all need time but they're good prospects. It may just be Hartenstein available at 19 but again, maybe you move up.

A step down but still good: Ivan Rabb, Bam Adebayo, TJ Leaf, Donovan Mitchell, and more.

Hawks-y picks but ehhh for me: Jonathan Motley, Caleb Swanigan, Josh Hart.

    31:

Whoever is available of the following:

Josh Hart, Caleb Swanigan, Tyler Lydon, Sindarius Thornwell, and PJ Dozier.

There are more players that you can talk about but this is what I touched on. This thread may belong more in NBA Draft Talk.

If the Hawks can get Jonathan Motley and Justin Patton it would be awesome!  Jonathan is going to be a really good player.

Then Dan E is taking his sack 'o nickels and trying to beat every GM over the head to win every trade.

I'm so sick of hearing about all the assets and the future for them.  It only works out if every step of their process is a home run.  No one in this draft is walking in day 1 and leading any team anywhere.  IOW, all they'll be adding is another Jaylen Brown type.  I like the kid but where's he been in the playoffs?  Sees aren't on a timetable that allows them to wait/develop a draft pick.  They need him to walk in and be a Lebron James.  Uh, good luck with that.

Oh that note, I think Prince has just as much potential as Jaylen and has played much better in his first playoff series.

  15. Off topic (maybe on topic?).  Who do you think the Hawks will select with the 19th pick?  Will they select anyone?  I personally like Justin Patton and Zach Collins.  Patton is supposed drop to around the Hawks draft position.
