That's kind of what the Falcons did when they went and got Julio Jones, but I digress.  I really want PG 13.  I mean it has to happen after what happened to the Falcons in the Superbowl?  The lord will bless us with a star for all our suffering!

  2. I never thought I'd EVER say this, but more minutes for Dunleavy?

Dennis had a poor game, but let's not act like he hasn't been carrying the Hawks most of the season.

You all seem to forget the Hawks had more than 2 days of rest.  When was the last time the Hawks have won when they had an extended break under Bud?

At the end of the day, tip your hat to Boston, give the middle finger to the refs for not reviewing that goal tend and not calling the foul on THjr in the 4th. The Hawks will get them next time.

    BTW, GO FALCONS!

Go to the 16 minute mark on the podcast.

    Thanks.

I think you will hear a lot of things coming out because everyone thinks we are blowing up the team.  Just because they were yelling at each other on the court does not mean there is some kind of discourse.  I saw KK basically loose it on Dennis this yearfor missing a defensive assignment causing KK to foul the player.  No one is saying KK and Dennis hate each other.

Dwight and Millsap just don't fit together. It just doesn't work. Millsap's offensive game is to freelance and there isn't as much space to do it without the guy I will not mention. The fix would be to split them up more often, but the issue is...Dwight apparently hates Dennis.

Where are you getting this misinformation from?  Will you please post a link?

    Thanks

Let's be honest.  That first round pick is a 2nd round pick.. probably in a weak draft... 3 years from now.   That pick is meaningless in our hands.  So we gave up a Hawk for that.

Now that more details are out,  we know that the pick is an 11- 30 first round pick for 2019 and 2020.  It can be converted into two second round picks in 2021 or 2022.  Anyway you slice it, that is a good deal for an expiring player who we probably weren't going to resign.

I'm being objective here. I was a BIG Korver fan, but Cleveland is giving up alot in that trade.  It's not like we were waltzing to the title this year (not saying we can't just saying it's highly improbable.).

To everyone - report it out if you hear it.

To me, if the Hawks hold the option this is good value and I'm all on board with the value of the pick.  If we don't have the option (or if god forbid Cleveland does), then I don't like feeding the Cavs a good player for what I fully expect to be a marginal pick.

The Hawks have the options per reading over at Peachtreehoops.

This is what Cleveland's draft picks were after losing Lebron last time:

    1

    4

    1

    1

That would translate into:  "Your pick just evaporated and you get nothing.  Good day sir."

That's with no Kevin Love or Kyrie Irvin in his prime.  I believe without LBJ they will probably be one of the 19 best teams in the NBA.

Does the protection come off for 2020 or is it the same guidelines? Either way its nice to have some options but of course Cavs losing protection if LeBron is not there or for some other reason would be a Nirvana moment for us.

    Protection stays for both years.

  9. You guys are mad we gave up 35 year old Kyle Korver for a first round pick?  Korver could be resigned in the off season (Most likely not).  You should be happy the pick is in 2019.  Cleveland may be champions for this season and next.  However, in 2019 what if LBJ leaves gets injured or whatever happens and Cleveland is around a 15th pick in the draft?

Then this is a steal!  We are accumulating assets to possibly move up in the draft or get an impact player from someone.

Let's be patient and see how this fully plays out.

If anyone thinks that Cleveland, GSW, or SA are not winning the championship this year, then pass me that joint!

I'm not upset. But a 30th pick in the first round is basically a worthless pick. There is nothing more to feel about it than that.

Maybe we are trying to get assets for a bigger trade? I'm just so confused about what's going on.

More than just familiar names, I think there are some good fights and some interesting vets that may be available.

First..  CJ Watson.   Orlando may be willing to let him go for cheap.   Then there's the fight thats going on between:

    Holiday and Fraizer

    Collison and Lawson

    Nelson and Mudiay

    Bledsoe and Knight

But here's a trade for you to consider...

    Splitter and Muscala for Bayless.

The trade works because Philly has found a better PG in McConnell.  Bayless has 2 costly years on the contract.   Philly will get a chance to look at Muscala who could pay dividens for them beside Embidd.

So we have no back up bigs?

Nobody doubts that he's playing at a high level and he's the present and future.  However, 7.7 assists doesn't tell the whole story.

For instance.  For the month of December, we lead the league in 3 pters Assisted.  I would suggest to you that alot of Dennis' assists came from passing to a three point shooter.   Whereas, we suck in Midrange and we're top 5 in point assisted in the paint.   In all of that, with Dennis playing at an allstar level, we are 4-5 record wise and we have guys who are not scoring... I know some guys may be in a slump.  However, the eye test shows that Dennis doesn't get guys involved enough.   An offense has to be coaxed.   A PG has to do more than just get the stats of assists but to run the offense, there are some times when he has to be vital in getting a player going.  We have the offensive firepower to BLOW TEAMS out of the building... and we're 4-5.   But.. Dennis will make the allstar team. Maybe Wall will be there with him.

Eye test?  My eye test says yes he can get his teammates involved, but him passing to our ice cold wings won't be winning us anymore games than his current performance.  The problem is NOT with Dennis, Sap, or Howard.  The problem all season has been our wings.  If we had 3 wings on our team that shoot 50% from midrange and 35 - 40% from 3 do you think Dennis would be taking as many shots?  NO, cause coach would say pass the ball to the great shooters.  At times, he's our only offense cause no one else can create or hit a wide ass open shot.

You may have some agenda or something, all I'm saying is to say that the problem lies with Dennis not getting others involved is absolutely incorrect when passing the ball to these "others" 75% percent of the time results in a missed shot or turnover.

You can say what you want about Dennis, but in December, he is playing at an Allstar level.  To say he is not getting his teammates involved is disingenuous (7,7 assists says otherwise). I'm really excited about Dennis going forward.  He's the Hawk's present and future.

Of all the things to complain about on this team our 23 year old point guard is the least of our worries as of late...

There were two big plays where we failed last night.  The whole game can be boiled down to this:

    1.  Tie game or maybe we were down 2 in the 4th.. crunch time.  Dennis gets the ball and rushes the basket with one man on him and one man trailing and misses the lay-in.   Dennis wants to be Westbrook but he doesn't pass.  That possession should have been one where we had movement and we took a good shot.  I knew the moment that Dennis got the ball, that he would drive.

    2.  Dennis is getting zippity do dahd by Walker.  Sap comes over to trap.. Walker to Marvin for the wide open 3 pt dagger. IF we're playing trapping defense than somebody was supposed to rotate.   Our defensive rotations have not been there all year.  I think it was Baze or THJr down in the corner that should have rotated and covered that passing lane.

NBATV did an excellent Job of showing how the Warriors switch on defense.   Now, KD has been a defensive liability for most of his career.  Yet, when they switch and rotates, he looks like a defensive talent.  Our team defense sucks because we got guys out there that don't know what to do.

Those two plays are indicative of our night.   Too much isoball and too much bad defense.

    1.  The player that was supposed to rotate over was Bazemore, but guess who he was guarding? Bellineli!  I wouldn't leave that guy to rotate over to Marvin either.  It was a tough play.

  15. This is a superstar performance or to put it simple, This was Orlando Dwight.  No one here expects him to be a superstar on a nightly basis.  We need him to keep performing at his current allstar level.

I can't believe i've read through this thread and see so much poop on Dwight and Dennis arguable our two best players over the past 10 games.  I think the team will continue to improve as long as we keep Bazemore and Korver on the bench.   Having Hardway as a secondary creator is helping our offense so much and I believe our defense will come around once the team adjusts to this lineup.

Anywho, even though the Hawks have played like poo they are only ONE game out of third.

I just wanna know if Deandre just doesn't show up in practice or what but his d league action looks good.

When you consider Kyle, Kent, Thabo, Timmy, and Tearuan are ahead of him, I don't think it's practice.  Just not enough minutes to go around.

Then I hope Bud is willing to bend to make this work. The Falcons offense it together because Shanahan and Ruan's offense were able to meet in the middle and play together. It was terrible last season because Shanahan had a "my way or the highway" approach to instilling his offense.

Something has to give for these Hawks to continue to be successful. I still believe we need a trade to get us over the hump because there is not a single guy on this team that can produce offense at will. The biggest thing we lost when Horford left was his offensive consistency.

I'm still not a fan of Schröder on this team. I understand he is still very young, but he isn't a starting PG we need for a championship run. He isn't a great enough shooter to be calling his own number and there are too many times he drives the lane forcing a play and he gets lost amongst the trees. He also has some plays where he holds onto ball too long and dribbles around too long. Hate calling him a ball hog tho. He keeps it up and we'll have to change his jersey number to 5.

I can see where you think he holds the ball too long, but please tell me where our offense will come from if Schröder is not pushing the issue?  Schröder and Milsap are the Hawks only decent playmakers.  When the wings aren't scoring and we can't get the ball to Dwight, what is Schröder to do?  He has to be more of a scoring options right now, because teams don't respect the starting wings.  The Bucks started doubling Dennis and that's when he and Paul went to work with the 1 4 pick and roll.  If Dennis wasn't scoring, he was making the right read,  passing AND directing Milsap to the right spot to score or make a subsequent pass.  That's truly what I've been wanting to see from Dennis.  He was the floor general!

Over the past ten games he's averaging about 19 pts 6 assists 3 rbs and 2.5 turnovers. This is our young 23 year old point guard doing that in only his second month of starting.  I'd take those numbers all day everyday.  The only other point guard around Dennis' age doing that is Kyrie...the number 1 overrall pick for his draft.  I think Dennis is well on his way to being an Allstar if not bonafide star.  I know it's early and I have to temper my expectations because he will have his bad games and he still needs to cut down on the TO's.  However, my overall concern for Dennis is at a 0.  He's actually exceeded my expectations for him thus far.

  18. Apparently, the Hawks have 4 draft picks?  Number 1 priority will be a front court player.

    I like the following.

    1. Lauri Markkanen  - PF/C

    2. Johnathan Motley  - PF

    3. TJ Leaf - PF

4 Josh Hart - SG would be a great second round pick.

These aren't the picks I believe the Hawks should make, but the 3 best front court players I believe the Hawks wil have the opportunity to draft.
