Ya they were dynamite 🧨 together in Minny. They win the title in 2017 didn’t they?

They were 22 or 23. Players develop. I’d take Wiggins over Hunter 10/10 times today

kat im still unsure of. If we got him I’d cheer for the guy. But not sure his defense with trae is a good idea.

  2. Here’s a random one. Andrew Wiggins.

IF the warriors are looking to shed salary - Add a FRP and take Wiggins into the TPE. Would make sense particularly if we moved murray + Hunter for Kat I guess. Still not sure I like kat, but rumors are rumors.

if we did get Wiggins & kat - we’d have a trae - Wiggins - kat core locked up for the next 4 years. Add 3&d guys at the 2/4, and that could be an interesting lineup.

  3. Bad defense and all, in the regular season a lineup with Trae - Bogi - Aj was  a +7.2 net rating according to NBA.com. Good for 7th out of all 3 man Hawks lineup combos that played > 25 games together. Without any development … that is still an effective pairing. Throw in better coaching and AJ not being a 19 year old rookie??? Cmon man!!

not going down this rabbit hole again - I’ll see myself out.

Bonus before I go. Using the same database. Young - Johnson - okongwu has the 2nd best 3 man rating (25+ games played together) at 12.9. I am very excited and high on the development of our youth - particularly under Snyder.

  4. i Feel like it’s going to be challenging to find anyone with much value that we’d be able to acquire for more than the TPE and some kind of light draft (SRP) compensation.

Not sure the magic want to swing this, but I’d love to take a look at Jonathan Isaac if the magic are looking to move on. If he gets right? Not sure there is a better fit next to OO. If not? He is non guaranteed next year and could be a useful trade piece at the all star break.

Taurean prince would also be of interest.

For anyone wanting to know how much we can take back in trades based on a player's contract size see chart above ^.

So example: in a CC trade the Hawks can take back his current salary, $18.2 mil + $5 mil = $23.2 mil

But aren’t we able to take back more given the $25M TPE? So it’d be $23.2M + $25M? Or can the $25 not be combined with other player salary?

He's nowhere near as good as Bane. Bane should have been a lottery pick based on his tape.

Lundy draft status is all about if you truly value great shooting. If you don't, he's undraftable, if you do, you draft him in the 2nd

    Completely agreed.

My comment was just around body composition + shooting ability is similar to bane coming out. Being able to create for himself/others is what made bane a much better prospect (probably a little better athlete too). With that said - bane still was drafted end of R1… likely for the reason @Spud2niquementioned (+ age).

didnt intend to come off as he was bane 2.0. Just his full game reminds me of a part of bane. Useful player = 9th or 10th  man type if he hits his ceiling imo. Still really good for pick 46.

  7. Has a frame very similar to Desmond Bane, but Lundy has + wingspan. Off ball / shooting is similar to Bane coming out. Has limited playmaking to his name unlike Bane (maybe that's a result of the offense he played in?). If he can work on his body & gain a little explosiveness, he certainly has a chance to stick and be a useful player.

Hawks need size to play with Trae.

With rumors about a hawks trade up. I wonder if there is any interest in a guy like Ausur Thompson. He (and Amen) is a very polarizing prospect, but his athleticism + size would pair nicely next to trae.

what are your thoughts on him? Any info on if we even brought him or maybe a whitmore in for a workout?

    2. Dre didn't play the 3 till the Hawks. He was a 4 at UVa. He guarded the other teams best players, sometimes that was a 1, 2, 3 or 4. Griffin played the 3 at Duke. He was a 3 with us the minute Bogi came back and his defensive production fell off and his team defense which has always been bad became unbearable. Then again, young players generally are bad team defenders. [Team defense is, surprisingly, a very important part of playing good defense. I think we agree to a degree, but are talking past each other at this point. I have confidence that AJ will improve on the team defense aspect which will bring him up to a league average defender. I would project him to follow a JC type path to a league average defender. Not elite. Not a stopper. Average - which I've been clear on.]

    3. His age isn't going to change his traits. That's the big issue. He has the same lateral issues as Bey without any of the instincts Bey has. How do you expect him to be anywhere near Hunter who can move his feet very well for his size laterally? [I don't ever expect him to be at Hunter's level. I said the gap would narrow - that's it. And part of the reason I said I see him as a future 3 is because of his lateral speed. Yet you want to put him at 2 against guys who are typically quicker? I could see us hiding him on 2s that aren't exactly great offensive players, but his primary position is still, to me, at the 3.]

    5. Quotes like this is why I hate this site at times "And just to get you really riled up. for such a shit defensive player. when AJ is on the court with trae at the 3 - we gave up 111.5 pts/100. With Dre we gave up 113.9. And Bey? 116.2."

Tell me you don't know shit about the shit you are talking about is obvious when I see shit statements like this. [That was tongue in cheek. But that's fine.]

    6. You aren't a Dre fan. If you are, you need to renounce that shit. Do you think Aaron just can develop passing like Trae? Come on man, why is the stupid shit always said in reference to defense on this site. [Welcome to Strawman City. Population: Supes. There was a thread a few months back where I defended Dre. Saying he could be the #3 on a title winning team. So yes, I am a fan. But I believe in AJ's future more. That's not disrespect to Dre. That's the same as me saying I'd rather keep Trae than DJ.]

If you think age is the difference between Hunter on D and Griffin, I can't take you serious at all as a Basketball fan. That's like saying, Bruno can be as good on defense as Clint, just give him some playing time. It's pure delusion. This site is way too offensive minded and it's been like that for YEARS. I still remember posters telling me Jabari Parker was getting 16 mil per off of that good month when JC was suspended. We really don't understand basketball well on here.

Honestly, do you guys even understand defense on this site?

I thoroughly enjoy the spastic responses when someone disagrees with you.

When did I say that age is the only difference between the 2? I said the gap will narrow in time. And yes. The gap will narrow.

That’s a nice strawman argument for Bruno/Clint, but nowhere close to apples to apples. Griffin came out of college after a single season. Hunter had 3 to learn the game. He’s 19 still learning the nuance of the game. He will never be a defensive stopper. I never said he would. But to expect him to not be better than he is today is silly. Or maybe some posters on this site don’t understand player development.

and when his defense gets to average. His offense will be far more impactful to the team. And thus the total package is more valuable to me.

And just to get you really riled up. for such a shit defensive player. when AJ is on the court with trae at the 3 - we gave up 111.5 pts/100. With Dre we gave up 113.9. And Bey? 116.2.

and for the record. I’m a big Deandre fan.

I really hate this site sometimes

Hate away, but maybe add some context if you want to disagree. Griffin is more 3/2 and Hunter is 3/4. With that said ...

    1) Hunter is better, more versatile defender. I expect that out of a 25 year old in his 4th NBA season compared to a 19 year old rookie. Do I expect that gap to narrow by the time AJ is in his 4th year? Absolutely.

    2) Griffin played far more minutes at the 3 his rookie season. You really think that's going to change?

    3) Griffin is a better offensive fit with Trae.

    4) Statistically (I understand they had very different roles), but AJ was a more impactful player - as a rookie.

I'm not a proponent that AJ Griffin should start next year over Hunter. But long term, I'm keeping AJ before Hunter.

    Prototype 2 guard to me.

I see him as the future 3. I may have said it before, but outside of Trae - he would be my only other untouchable. The Trae + AJ pairing is going to be a problem for the league in the future. As a reference coming out of college (Hunter was nearly 3 years older) [Hunter / Griffin below]:

    Height: 6'7" / 6'6"

    Wingspan: 7'2" / 7'0"

    Weight: 223 / 222

Athletically, I don't think AJ has the lateral agility to be a 2 long term either.
