  1. If I were GM I would definitely be looking to move Murray in the off-season. I would also move Clint, but but I could only get negative value would move OO and draft a replacement (or get a replacement in a trade). I would also move Bogi before age craters his value if I believed Kobe or AJ are ready for a legit top 8 rotation role. I don't think a Trae and Murray back court gets us beyond mid unless one of our front court players develops into a superstar.
  2. A win is a win. Hard for me to not look at this game through the lens of two teams decimated by injuries and limping towards the finish with losing records and think - whichever team gets a bench guy on a hot streak wins this game. Good that it was the Hawks bench tonight with Bruno and Garrison. I don't think either of those guys are rotation players on winning NBA teams though, more guys who are on the bench to play a role in the wake of an injury to someone ahead of them on the depth charts. Vit might have a chance of becoming a regular rotation piece if he can get some consistency on his outside shot.
  3. I did not miss that. Holland is two years away, assuming he develops a reliable jumper, from being a useful rotation player. At that Clint and Horford are retired and the Hawks have no bigs and JJ’s new deal has them capped out.
  4. You could make an argument that winning a championship would have a much bigger impact on the value of the Hawks as a franchise versus the Celtics (since they already have some "championship" shine on their valuation) and thus it would be more lucrative in the long run for Ressler to make a big push for a championship to increase his bottom line. Now, is Brown the right piece? He is absolutely, in my opinion, a move in the right direction but probably not enough, when coupled with Trae and what remains of the Hawks team, to get the Hawks over the finish line. Maybe if JJ takes his came up another level they could get there, but that is asking a lot. I would go all in for someone like Tatum to pair with Trae but probably not Brown (just like I would not have done the Murray deal as I do not see him as the right fit).
  5. Can the Hawks afford two super max contracts and put a winning squad around those two contracts?
  6. Both of those guys are interesting. I think both guys have a chance but each will need some time to further develop - so I would not draft either expecting any significant contributions in year one (though with Quinn and his approach with rookies in the ATL they may not get the time no matter their level of readiness). Not sure I would draft two such players if I were the Hawks GM - I would likely lean into making one of those picks someone who can contribute soon. I still think the Hawks need to make a real effort to move Murray in the off-season to bring in a better long term fit next to Trae. The return on that trade would have a big impact on how these picks should be used.
  7. Honestly I am frustrated that the Hawks young guys are injured / unavailable and unable to take advantage of the playing opportunities available with the varsity guys on the shelf. Sucks to be losing but not developing.
  8. Losing to a team with three 20 year olds in the starting line up is rough. Ugh.
  9. The problem with some of the contracts the Hawks have, and have given out, is that the team is not winning. Someone putting up modest stats on a 60 game winning team is fine, because they are "contributing to winning." Do the same on a loser and those same stats seem hollow. Paying for wins is okay. Paying for empty stats is not.
  10. I am not sure on the defensive piece, but I am intrigued by Filipowski generally. My instinct though is the Hawks should lean more into defense then anything else in the off season.
  11. According to ESPN: Atlanta is 5-3 since losing Trae Young to injury mostly thanks to its defense. In that same span, the Hawks have held opponents under 101 points five times, something they only did once in their first 56 games.
  12. That is why I would be aggressive on the trade market. Unless JJ because Tatum 2.0 (and going from "good" to "great" is exceptionally difficult, so I don't think that is something the team can expect) I do not see a path to championship contender with this Hawks roster so I view a retooling as essential. I would have absolutely no problem adding Kobe, AJ or OO as trade filler if it gets me the right return.
  13. Reed Shephard and Dalton Knecht are very interesting prospects but I don't see how they make sense for the Hawks unless they are trading one or more of their existing back court players. If the teams moves Murray or Bogi then drafting a guard would make more sense. If I were the Hawks GM I would be actively looking to move one of Murray or Bogi along with Capela, ideally for a defensive oriented wing or a defensive oriented big with length, and then I would use the draft to fill whichever hole I have left after that trade. If no trades, I would focus on finding a defensive oriented 3 to replace Bey and a big with size to ultimately replace Capela.
  14. Knicks are absolutely decimated by injuries. Making the Hawks look healthy.
  15. Is Kobe hurt? Why is he being held out.
  16. I think the Hawks made a mistake with the Kobe pick. They should have taken one of the available wing players like Whitmore or Jaquez. Unless the Hawks make some trades Kobe will be the 4th guard next season, unless AJ beats him out for that honor.
  17. Elite offense alone will not with the Hawks a championship. They need some guys who can lock in on defense. Even the Warriors needed guys who could get it done on defense, and the Hawks are a long way from having an offensive machine like that.
  18. I think the Hawks biggest problem is their absolute crap defense. Edey won’t fix that.
  19. Very uninspired basketball this afternoon. Nets stunk less today.
  20. The team may need to take a step back before it can take two steps forward. I would trade Murray and whomever else it takes to find better fits (and that has to include more defense) around Trae and JJ (I would even trade JJ in the right deal) and then hope to get some hits in the draft. Will take at least two years of development and roster tweaking from there to know if those moves paid off.
  21. If the Hawks are just going to roll back the same roster as this season, perhaps minus Bey (and even if he is resigned), I do not see a reason to expect different results. The team needs to make a meaningful change in the off-season to reverse a steady trend of declining mediocrity.
  22. I agree with AHF. DJM is a nice player but the only way he is averaging 25-10 is on a bad team. I also agree with AHF that a silver lining of Trae's injury may be the opportunity to showcase DJM to enhance his trade value in the off-season (with the idea of bringing in a better fit alongside Trae). Trae has his warts for sure but he offensive talent that makes the Hawks uniquely dangerous - and gives them the ability to win a playoff series. I don't think they have enough defense currently to do that but if they can get that part squared up then they can be dangerous in the playoffs. It will require some very meaningful roster changes, including in all likelihood moving on from DJM to get a better defending guard to play alongside Trae.
  23. JJ would get roasted trying to defend guards. He is barely adequate defending small forwards. The Hawks need a premium defender at center, another defensive oriented big wing and a strong defensive guard, and they need those players to be real top 8 rotation players.
  24. Teams still hunt trae on defense. That won’t stop and teams will keep pushing switches so Trae ends up on those wings who can then score effortlessly. To be clear the rest of the teams defense is total crap too. Rudy Gobert or prime admiral in the middle can’t solve all our issues at this point.
  25. Biggest reason for the Hawks failure this year is the WOAT defense across the board. This is one of the worst defensive teams ever. They will not win consistently until that is fixed.
