  2. Quote: Quote: What if ONE team does need a 4 and has money (we could go on and on)? You have the clippers and hawks potentially batteling for your services this year. Are you 100 percent sure that Josh Smith cant find a better situation then 2 of the worst franchises in recent nba history? Of course it isn't a sure thing that Smith couldn't get a better deal next year but that is looking at it totally bassackwards. The only way Smith would benefit from taking the QO would be to get a MUCH bigger deal next year. That is far from a sure thing. You may not be aware of this but his agents work on commission. they aren't working out of the goodness of their hearts. they know they have a big payday coming to them this summer the only question is how big. The commission on a 1 year deal is a mere pittance compared to what Smith can get right now. Plus if Smith does take a one year deal it is no sure thing that Smith won't fire his agents during the season. There is NO WAY that Smith's agents would allow him to take a one year QO just because he MIGHT be able to get a better deal next season. The Cavs had a major dispute with Varejao last year and couldn't reach an agreement. Varejao didn't take the QO though. he just sat out the first part of the season. Dont insult my intelligence exodus with your agents work on commission comment. We wont agree on what deal to take (unless we maybe see a number) but I hope we can both agree that you do everything in your power not to strap the franchise or let him go without compensation. Probably wouldnt get what the hawks think is fair compensation based on the situation the hawks are in but it is what it is.
  3. Quote: Quote: Quote: We have no idea who ALL the teams with the money next year Which is exactly why it would be such a huge risk to take a one year deal. If the teams with a lot of cap space don't need a 4 what is Smith going to do? Plus next years free agent crop is supposed to be much stronger than this years. What if he takes the one year QO and then gets hurt or has a poor season? There is ZERO YES I MEAN ZERO chance that his agent would allow Smith to take the QO even in the unlikely event that Smith wanted to take it. Right, I think the injury thing is the biggest concern. Unless he gets a ridiculous offer from us (like last summer), he'll take it. The Clippers will probably offers something worth signing for anyway. By the way, you (Dawsons Creek) keep calling Smith our third best player. Obviously Joe is the first best player but who is the second best in your mind? I would take Horford over Josh Smith any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

If the clippers dont like to spend money and you sure as heck know the hawks dont why wouldnt u think there would be a better situation for him next year. Maybe hes tired of losing, maybe he doesnt like woodson, maybe he doesnt like the fact that the hawks waited till the last minute. Alot of what ifs for both sides of this discussion. We will just see how it plays out but like I said you cant let him walk for nothing or handicap (financially) your franchise for the 3rd best player on the team.
  5. Quote: Quote: Quote: Quote: Then what. I dont know what the clippers are prepared to offer or if hes even their top priority. I dont think the hawks can afford to not get anything in return next year because you got to figure that they have to decide on Marvins situation and Joes extension too. Either lock him up this year(long term) or Sign and trade this year. The price will be more expensive next year, he can leave without the chance to match and probably be able to go to a better situation then the clippers. Smith's QO is only $3.1 million I believe which is so far below his market value that i don't think there is any chance he would take it. Only if he feels he can make alot more (3 or 4 mill more per year) next year then what he is offered this year. We just will have to wait and see what the figure is. The minimum he would probably get offered now is $12 million/yr. He would have to get $14 million/yr next season just to break even (not even taking into account the present value of money). There is no guarantee that the teams under the cap nex season will be interested in him enough to pay him that kind of money. Plus there is always a big risk turning down a long term deal to sign a 1 year deal (see Danny Manning). I get what your saying but we cant be sure what Smith is gonna be offered now that philly is out of the mix. Especially if what Sekou says is true about the clippers traditionally being penny pinchers. We have no idea who ALL the teams with the money next year, but Im guessing they will offer a better sitaution(not just money but also a winning organization) then what the clippers could this year. It only takes one team to fall in and love and give him 14 mill this year or next (just had an isiah flash back). I just want to see the figure offered this year. Bottom line is you lock him up long term or SNT that ass. If I were the hawks I do everything I can too prevent a 1 year deal or a long term ridiculous number for the 3rd best player on the team.

  8. I agree with you Josh. He would be sick next to AL imo. He averages a double double and doesnt turn the ball over and can run. Hes 22. Look at his rebounds for March and April. Can block shots too at 6'11. If we could get Bierdens and Azubuike that would fill 2 needs. A 5 and a shooting guard with size off the bench.
  9. Quote: I'd package JS/ZaZa/future (2010) 1st for Kaman. You don't get 16/13/3 for nothing and it would even out our roster. Any chance LAC and Elgin Baylor make another mistake this offseason? W Dunno if they would do that but I would.
  10. The Clippers, sources said, expected to respond to the departures of Brand and Maggette by making a hard run at Atlanta Hawks restricted free agent Josh Smith, who was Philadelphia's No. 2 target behind Brand. If the Clippers elect to sign Smith to an offer sheet, Atlanta would have seven days to match. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3479117

  12. Quote: I would think the Clippers would be more inclined to bring Maggette back rather than chase any restricted FA. (They didn't renounce Maggette, did they?) Spurs offered him the MLE. If its not ALL about the money, I would take it if I were him. They probably want to bring thornton along too(if they keep him).
  13. Quote: L.A. Times Quote: Elton Brand has reached a verbal agreement to sign a multiyear contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to an NBA source who requested anonymity because he is not authorized to speak on player movements. The deal is believed to be in the $80-million range and expected to span five years. Welp. Here come the Clippers for Josh Smith... Kaman or Thornton and Draft Picks
  14. I like that idea MR H. If it came down to players that could help us from those teams via sign and trade.... Clippers: Kaman Thornton Warriors: Ellis (They will throw the sink at him...no way he could come here) Bierdens Azubuike (bench help) Grizzlies: Draft Pick non lottery protected If we could get a quality big like Kaman or Bierdens out of Josh Smith I would be extatic. Im not opposed to bringing smith back but not for 14 mill a year.
  15. I dont know whats true and whats not but that 14 mill a year would make me pick up the phone so damn quick. If the clippers lose brand to philly, I see what I can work out for Kaman and or Al Thornton.
  16. Id rather have brand sign in philly and deal with the clippers IF it came down to any sort of trade. Hopefully they would do Kaman and I wouldnt hate on Al Thornton coming here either.
  17. I would do that trade straight up. 16/13/3 out of the center position(7 footer thats like 26) and I can slide AL to the 4? Where do i sign up? I bet Joe would love it.
  18. Sign and Trade this year(if possible). I wouldnt pay 16 million dollars for someone who may be the 3rd best player on the team. I dont care how many of yall like to see slam dunks and blocked shots.
  19. Sign him up. He's the shooter with size we have been looking for.
  20. Gotta put Outlaw or Webster in there and take something out. I wouldn't take 3 potential role players for Marvin, no matter how much hes underacheived.
  21. Quote: Quote: It would almost be poetic to get rid of Marvin. Think about it. Marvin represents the biggest of BK's failure. Nah, I think that Shelden Williams was BK's biggest failures! Amen. No arguement can refute that. Marvin hasnt been a franchise player, but damn Shelden might find his way out of the league in the next few years.
  22. Yeah I agree that the reason we didnt bring over DA is because we dont have alot of money and they want to save every last penny for both Joshes. I hope we can get someone like Sean Singletary or even a Lofton from Tenn to have some sort of shooter of the bench. I know our needs are much bigger then that, but what can u expect from UDFAs.
  23. Josh Smith is not leaving here for nothing. That's for sure. The only piece we have that makes sense, for the right deal is Marvin. I just can't see Atlanta re-upping him at a ridiculous amount if both Joshes stay and you have to be in contract talks with Joe next summer. Bibby wont be here for that absurd amount hes making after this year. He's a rental for this year and hand the keys to Acie or someone else the year after.
  24. How about Prince for Marvin and Zaza.. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...8~8~1&te=&cash= Funny that Princes stats are comparable to Marvins but Prince can actually play defense. Prince may also be on the block according to espn reports and real gm http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/531...e_trade_market/
