Quote: I say keep Childress on the bench, but possibly play him when the game is on the line. Chill is the guy that usually keeps the Hawks offense afloat when the 2nd teamers enter the game. If we keep Shelden on the bench, we'd probably be a Lue-Salim led offense when the bench players were in. That's not necessarily a good thing. And so much for JJ having his minutes reduced. He'll probably have to play 38+ minutes a game, until the rest of the team and Smoove prove that they can handle the increased responsibilities. Well let's see. I like Smoove defending Webber. Webber likes to avoid the paint. As far as Iguodala, I'd rather have Chillz defending him than Smoove (lateral movement reasons). Even I like JJ on Iguodala and Chillz on Korver. Game by game starters can vary and will. In fact I don't mind Lo on Webber to start if so, Smoove on Korver is the advantage. I trust Woody will make the adjustments.
  2. Quote: Things are going to be interesting around January. Since Shelden will get so much playing time with Marvin's injury I am predicting that he will put up numbers similar to Okafor. 12-14ppg/9-10 rebounds. And based upon his preseason numbers that is not beyond the realm of possibility. So the dillema is this. When Marvin comes back, would you start him, assuming that those are shelden's numbers? (also assuming that Josh puts up numbers similar to the last half of last season.) I don't think that you could bench Shelden at that point. Marvin will obviously have to acclimate into the rotation. Surely there maybe a "dilemma" at that time. As for now the question is moot. Preparation for next week is not a Marvin issue,it is an issue concerning those available. Chillz should work in the 3 and Salim and Lue shall maintain the rotation behind JJ. Therereally should not be much different because of our versitility and depth.

I suspect right about now (even now), Woody is in Smoove's ears. Josh has to come forward and stand accountable. In this time he cannot alibi bad play, he Has to produce. This is the time for his development and maturity to increase and display. If Smoove was slated to start at the 4, he still should be. The rotation should not change with the exception of Chillz in for Marvin. Salim and Lue get more time in the 2. I suppose. This by design, Marvin will return and Smoove will be a better player, Chillz will be better players. Marvin then, will have to work harder to get his minutes.
  4. Quote: This really hurts. Marvin was suppose to our second goto scorer behind JJ. He was going to be huge in our challenge to become better starting off the season. This is really not good. You can't replace what I have been hearing and seeing of this kid in the last few months. Sometime I think the Hawks are truly jinxed!! This will strenghthen the team in the long run. Chillz gets more minutes, Salim and lue get more minutes. We are very versitile. Lo or Shelden can work in 4 and 5. lue can work in 1 and 2. Speedy can score 15-18 a game if needed. Coach will push buttons and we will be a better team for the injury.
  5. Quote: I agree, it sounds like Woody wants Bozeman and not Ivey. The Ivey extension was strange and I really don't understand it (but who does understand BK). I do hope the Hawks keep Bozeman as he sounds like the perfect complement to the team and has experience running a game during big games. The extension was neccessary because we had not secured a PG (Speedy) and Shelden was the draft. Had to sign Ivey to know we have at least two vet PG's.
  6. Quote: Royal Ivey VS Cedrick Bozeman. Bastista VS Glyniadakis Vs Matt Freije Personally Bozeman, Matt Freije, & Glyniadakis should have the upper hand. Bozeman can run the offense just as smoothly as Royal Ivey but is a better shooter and is 6'6" tall. Matt Freije just has more skill than Bastista. Can shoot lights out and can be used as a reliable gunner off the bench. Glyniadakis is a 7 footer with more skill also which gives him the edge. Well, Salim and Glyn are in without a doubt. Freije plays light, we need power from 6'10". Batista does and he is in. Solomon is arguebly the best athlete on the squad at 6'11", he is in. Royal is a vet, Ced will get minutes in the NDBL. So here it is: Speedy Lue JJ Chillz Salim Marvin Smoove Shelden Zaza Lorenzen Big Glyn Batista Ivey Solomon Bozeman That's 15 which is the limit. 12 will dress. Solomon and Bozeman will be assigned to the NDBL Ivey or Batista will dress at games depending on the intangables.
  7. Quote: I think he's talking about the assistants as a whole. I'm not a sophisticated enough fan to evaluate our assistant's job. Usually when the head coach goes most of the assistants get the axe as well. So I usually only judge coaching without distinguishing how well the head coach is and separately how well the assistant coaches are doing. I'll say this. Larry Drew scares me as a professional coach. Only because I heard some audio of him from his playing days talking about how he would relax a little on defense so he could focus on offense. Also because of his alleged drug addictions from his playing days. To me it's like having Shawn Kemp or Vin Baker as one of our assistants. Larry Drew played in a time when defenses were not as intense as now. Perhaps you are confusing Larry Drew with John Drew. Get it straight. Even so many have beaten an addiction.
  8. Quote: Quote: I know Woody will get all the heat but what do you think of the job our assistants are doing. They are responsible for much of the one on one workouts, player development, practice, in game adjustments and head coach suggestions. Larry Drew -- Herb Brown -- Bob Bender -- Greg Ballard-- David Fizdale -- Pete Radulovic . Some very successful teams have former NBA coaches with lots of experience. Herb Brown, Larry Brown's older brother, has the most experience. Do some "seem" to be little more than clip board carriers. Our you satisfied with player development under these assistants? Could a tweaking in the staff over the off season have helped? Hawkeye with all due respect, How are we to know with any certainty the assistants performance?
  9. Quote: October 23 - Hawks waive G Lionel Chalmers and F Kaniel Dickens from training camp roster this came from Hawks.com there you go, you happy now??? J/k Are you disappointed ?
  10. Quote: I think your comment that he can't manage a game is very insightful. I think he's gotten better at it, but there have been lapses that have cost us. And when we are talking about how to finish games to close them out, his role to manage them is vital. Would love to see him lean more on his assistants for help. In the heat ofthe game a coach can miss a needed component of benefit. That is the help of assistants. Woody takes the shoulder of the blame, but his assistants are not blameless. I recall last year during a game, Josh was on the bench at a time his abilities were needed. Yes Woody admitted (standup guy) forgetting about him, but so did 4 or 5 assistants. Some body gotta nudge the coach in those times. I'm certain BK addressed that.
  11. Quote: The Hawks, on the other hand, must learn to win. They need to learn HOW TO WIN. It is important to the well being of the Hawks that they win. Most, if not all of these players have come from winning teams, so they know about winning. They just haven't done it together as a team here with the Hawks. We all know these pre-season games don't count. They mean a lot to the well being of this young team and can and will make a difference once the season starts. I can not agree more. You said it. What this ride over the last three seasons is just about here. The rebuild is ready, Woody will take them to the court as winners. These guys ARE winners and hungry. I believe we are witnessing a special thing in sport. As one of my early idol called it, "Standing on the verge of getting it on". (don't be confused by a "Parliafunkdelicment type thang") Donchaknow
  12. Quote: ...who like to go to the RealGM sites of teams we play and read their official game thread? I was over at the Cleveland site and read theirs. They started out so cocky talking about can Larry Hughes shut down Joe Johnson. Ha ha. Alot of fans of other teams assume they are going to get an easy win and then it turns out to be otherwise. I enjoy so much watching the tone of the thread change and reading about their new found humility(does that make me a troll even though I don't post?). I think alot of fans will be in for a big suprise this season. No you are not. If you ever get bored, go to Indy or the Knicks. I am laughing now thinking of them.
  13. Quote: (For God's Sake) man, i'm tired of people who doesn't care to write or pronounce right the names of foreign players. For example Batista, he is in his second season, and i can't understand how some of you name him "Estaban" or "Batiste", the same with the greek guy. His name is Glyanadakis, is that so imposible to write well?. I see all the variations of his name here. When an american player comes to a foreign country, everyone tries to spell and pronounce his name in the right way, so guys let's make an effort!!!!! Maybe that's not important to you, but it shows how some people only cares about what happens in their own country. Of course i'm glad that some guys in here know where Uruguay is, spell the names Glyanadakis (who is greek and i don't know anything about him)and Esteban Batista correctly and try to support those guys. I don't put you all in the same page, but i think that is a little sign of xenophobia, the " i don't give a [censored] on this guy's name whatever it is" thing. Excuse me if i'm wrong Every time I see his name in print it comes up as Glyniadakis. Where is your reference?
  14. Quote: As I said I don't agree with Woody, I am just reiterating what he said in the paper. Woody pulling a hot shooter is nothing new. He's done it every year and will continue to do so it looks like. The guy is just a poor headcoach. He can teach, he can motivate, but he can't manage a game. That's why he should be an assistant and not a head coach. I disagree with your assessment. Woody knows that now is the time to teach in tight games and send a message. This is part of chemistry. In 10 short days, Josh will be required to be counted on for whatever load is neccessary. Starters have to get in "game shape" before 11-1. The coaches are not trying to figure out who will be in the active roster, they already know. We don't but they do. I don't believe he is a "poor head coach". I believe he is a good coach. His players believe in him and his system. He has a balanced eager and growing team.
  15. Quote: C - Zaza / Lo / Glyn PF - Smoove / Shel / Batista SF - Marvin / Chillz SG - JJ / Salim PG - Speedy / Lue / Ivey IR/ NBDL - Solomon There will be 14 or 15 under contract and 12 suited each game. Ivey and Batista should be 12 and 13. One of the two will suit or sit each game depending on the opponent and of course injuries. Solomon and perhaps another will be in the NDBL to start the season. Glyn I believe, is a lock to make the active roster.
  16. Quote: We have Woodsen to thank for blocking a Al Harrington for Darko Deal. Sure would have been better than a late first rounder for Al. I guess Woodsen knew he had more of a chance to win some games last season with Al than with Darko. I am not closed to convinced that Darko is as good as a late first rounder. Is he really guaranteed money?
  17. Quote: Quote: Quote: Za-Za and Shelden have been impressive tonight. zaza has impressed me all preseason long, and especially at the miami game. He's showing some maturity that will really pay off with Shelden playing by his side. Who was on the court dowm the stretch?
  18. Quote: I'm curious as to what the announcer said. Anybody know? http://www.ajc.com//sports/content/shared-...l_Telecast.html
  19. Quote: Site revamped? Who were the two guys drafted before Chamberlan? http://www.thedraftreview.com/ Ineresting stuff. I spent an hour or so from 1955 to 1979. That was a blast. The Hawks had some serious personalities drafted. That '70s was wild. Coulda had Mo Lucas and Jamal Wilkes.BK was a player, but check out Drew. '75 we draft David Thompson, Marvin Webster(neither ever wore the uniform) and Bill Willoughby (one of my favs), but coulda had Darryl Dawkins, Junior Bridgeman and Gus Williams or World Free. JB of Fox and CBS fame was drafted by the Hawks out of Harvard. Lon Kruger was drafted by the Hawks. Good stuff.
  20. Quote: Everyone sounds like they play video games and like to light it up with Salim. Well this is real basketball and the guy will never play an important role on a contending team. Period! He is too small and toobad to defend. He just doesn't have it in him. If you are talented enough you could have him deep on the bench to hit 3's. That's it. That's the video game side. The real side has to do with flow and personality, basketball I.Q., respect for your teammates, an understanding of your own limitations and according play, etc.. We have a good team. I hope we cut him or play him 4 minutes a game. I hope you stop hating on Salim. Some of you people just have to hate on someone. One week it is Marvin the next it's Shelden, now it's Salim. Pathetic. The real side is 99% of you guys have 10% of Salim's talent, and you hate. You behind the keyboard, stop the Hate. Next week youse will be hating someone else.

    Salim

Regardles of the last three games, Salim is a premier shooter in this league. Whatever the problem is will be resolved.
  22. Quote: Swat you are wrong Shelden wont be starting over Smoove. While he has improved he is still raw and he picks up silly fouls in the game the other day either 3 or 4 of his fouls came on the offensive end, if anything he would start over Za-Za later on in the season. You miss the point. The eleven are just in place of what twelve are dressed. The question is what twelve (not the starters) will dress and how does Esteban factor in the equation.
  23. As much as I like Estaban, Glyn is a keeper. Glyniadakas may be the steal of the year (as Zaza was). Suiting up 12 a game is the dilema. My guesse is: Speedy/Lue JJ/Chillz/Salim Marvin/Smoove Shelden/Lo Zaza/Glyniadakas Number twelve is Ivey or Esteban considering the opposition (gamely). I believe we can unsuit any of the 3 (balance of 15 on the roster), in every game. It would be nice to have Esteban get minutes in the NBDL but bigs need on this team for depth. There will be games we can play without Ivey and more so we may need Esteban for he brings a specialty outside of depth.
  24. Quote: That lineup is full of talent but is going to get spanked if only because Woodson is utterly not the coach D'antoni is and Speedy is utterly not the Pg Nash is. With all the capitol we've had is this the direction we must go. Pheonix did it out of necessity due to injuries and has MVPs and creative good coaches. WHY did we get ourselves in this situation, where our most talented lineup by far doesn't include a Pf or a C? W Differing situations obviously behooves versatility. Obviously we do not Have to use a small lineup (ala Pheonix), but it is a testement of your talents that we can. We can employ a Big lineup if needed as perhaps: Zaza Lo Shell Marvin/Smoove JJ We can use many line ups.
