It could be because he thinks he is now three times the player that he was last year? Or maybe he thinks he is a little better than Jordan, so 24 instead of 23.

He is wearing #24 just because Marvin is wearing it and he knows that Marvin will be great one day so he just wants to have something in common with Marvin.

he's been quoted as saying that it stands for, "24/7", and outright denying the 'one-up MJ' rationale. He applied for this number 6-8 months ago, per NBA rules; this marks the first year that he will not be sporting (I think) he's father's old NBA number.

I think he wore it as a kid. But the only number I want to see Kobe with is zero. Zero titles without Shaq.
