Premium Member Vol4ever Posted November 20, 2006 Premium Member Report Share Posted November 20, 2006 sports in general. I don't happen to be in the medical arena but it seems to me players in all professional leagues are missing games an awful lot for numerous types of injuries. Is it just me or what? What do you think? Any medical personnel with reasons?
Weez
what type of 'reasons' or 'particular injuries' of note are you referring to? while no orthopaedist, I 'consider' my knowledge of the medical field/ sports injuries slightly above that of the lay-person (yes, for any of those thinking that I'm a smart ass, I am an m.d.). Yeti
I think it's different from the old days. It used to be that players were proud to play through injuries. Now, there is so much money involved they don't want to take a chance (and the teams also) on losing the money train. So if they stubb their toe - - - its time off. On the other hand, they are jumping higher, playing guys much bigger and stronger, so when they get hit the injury is even worse. Times change. It would be interesting to see a few plots of injuries (broken bones, concussions, even fatalities) versus time. But who keeps that kind of data? the unions?
