DONYELL MARSHALL SHOULD BE OUR ANSWER!!!

This guy comes to play and is the type of worker the Hawks could use at small forward. He can score a little, pass, a nice ball handler and in my opinion a great asset to have especially for a team like the Hawks. Terry, Johnson, Marshall, Abdur Rahim, Ratliff would start obviously and they have the makings of a very dangerous team and one that would be exciting to watch, not that they aren't now. He happens to be a free agent and we have a mid level acception. Perhaps a trade or two could get us to the point where we can fit him under our cap and roster limit. Anyone else concur?

Once Again I cannot stress patience enough, Marshall could help us be just good enough to suck as usuall. Marshall is ok, dont get me wrong but he wont contribute to the future of a great team. Marshall is a dime a dozen player; in fact he kind of reminds me of Hendu. Or even CC, only not as goofy looking and unskilled. Dont sign anyone that cost more than 750K until we can free some real cap space and sign a star. Remember how we got Mutumbo (One of Babs few good moves before last year)

Remember the NBA is about a long term strategy that will disable the opponets ability to compete. Look at Jerry West, he built the " Shaq/Kobe and the merry men " Show. Teams with players that are easily emulated lose. Just like the Hawks.

Marshall averaged 14/10 last year and shot 51%

How is that Hendu or CC?Are you sure you are feeling

ok?

Hendu/CC together wouldn't get you that much production,

If Marshall is so great why isn't any team breaking its neck to get their

hands on him."

It's called salary cap

"Give that loser Hendu 38 minutes a game and he will do the same thing

remember 98 - 99."

Actually Marshall played like 28MPG so what's your point?

Btw,Hendu only averaged 6 or 7RPG that year and shot 44%

while Marshall shot 51%

And Marshall runs the floor pretty well also.

Wow,

Marshall is so much better than T-Mac and Vince Carter he is great. Oh god! How blessed we would be to have that loser join our team.

Look I said Marshall wasn't the worst player in the league but he's not good by any stretch of the imagination look at his career numbers, he was the Jazz's second option (omit Stockton). Plus factor in the fact that the hawks are trying to develop DJ; Marshall will only slow his development.

Nobody ever said he was the best.Weak arguement and you know

it.

"he was the Jazz's second option (omit Stockton)"

Yeah and he contrubed to a winning team with solid numbers. And

there is a guy named Karl Malone.None of our players would be

a first option over Malone either. And their team actually won games.

DJ plays SG and Marshall is a SF/PF.That doesn't effect DJ at all...

Marshall is better than IRa Newble/Ty Corbin and anyone else we

have had at SF since 1994.You proboubly think Newble is better.lol

But whatever...it's you're option. But I;d like to actually upgrade the

SF slot with someone who can average more than 6-8PPG.

One Question Do You seriously think we will make the playoffs b/c if you do that must be why you want Marshall. He is Just another Player. I would rather see us keep the money. We need to focus on dropping Kukoc/Hendu/cc. Hendu will never be tradeable (if that is a word) unless he gets lots of PT besides were already paying him a fortune we might as well use him as filler until we can package him in a deal.

PS Marshall isn't nor will he ever be a factor. He was just a warm body. And just in case you forgot the jazz were a low seeded 1st round flop that barely beat out some young & inexperienced teams to make the playoffs

BUT THE JAZZ THANK GOD THEY HAD "SUPERMAN" DONYELLLLLL MARSHALLLL !!!!!!

No,but you have been unable to provide a better name to

go after.Sorry,we can't get Lamar Odom. It's time you and

alot of the others realize it.

Looks to me like u two are at it.

At times, i too wished we had MARSHALL on our team.

He has GREAT shot selections, and can do it all.

-He can rebound, postup, decent shooting, defends well with long arms.

But dont we have DERMARR JOHNSON?

And YES, i do think we will make the playoffs. I dont know if its because i have faith or because i really do think so. Either way, i try to stay positive.

BTW- take out the first half of our last season (before allstar game) and we had a WINNING RECORD. We lost to TALENTED kings by 1 point! We beat lakers as well.

And thats when we had injuries facing us.

Without injuries we can be a HARD TEAM TO BEAT!

I knew Pete Babcock was hanging out in the Chat rooms and I finally found Him. " Hey, lets over react and get some Hendu wannabe just because we can."

WHy go after some No Talent Hendu Clone. Remember there was a time when Hendu was considered an exciting young player.

Odom, Battier and a list of young semi available players could be acquired further down the road if we focus on clearing cap room.

" OH DONYELL ON YOUR FRAIL SHOULDERS WE WILL BUILD A PLOYOFF LOSER. YES YOU ARE OUR SECOND TIER HERO!" isn't that right Pete

Dude do you think you can get Odom for the 4.5 million exception?

Do you believe that?Marshall is a FA I believe.I'm talking about

using the 4.5 million(or part of it)for Marshall.Who else are you

gunna use it on?My suggestion is we sign Marshall for a year or

two, trade for a young guy to develop and cut Marshall loose.

Do you understand what I am getting at?

We already have a loser....he can't make it much worse.

Again I don't see your Henderson compare....Henderson

never had a atheltic bone in his body, nor was he ever

exciting...He couldn't run the floor,couldn't rebound,couldn't

play defense either.Marshall does all those things.

Tell me when Henderson averaged a double double? You have

been unable to make any points.I broke it all down for you...

We get a athletic SF that can rebound, get inside baskets,

run the floor.....Do we have another SF on the roster that

can do those things?

Or by getting guys like Battier do we always have to have the

least athletic team in the league?Does that always got to be

the case? When Chris Crawford is you're best athelete you have

some problems.....Ever think these are reasons we get out

rebounded?Cause we have fat slobs like Nazr/Kukoc and the

other guys.Think about that?

Well, golly, you've been busy ripping apart every single post on the board, but never really offering your own insight (nor punctuation).

A few things to keep in mind about Marshall:

1) Short contract (wouldn't be a long-term investment)

2) Proven himself in the playoffs (translation --> not simply a Hendu clone)

3) Playing for a winner

4) Fills several current needs (who knows what we will need next year?)

and, most importantly, 5) Probably not gonna get a player of his quality or better at this point (I hope I am soon eating those words!)

Who do we have to offer to the Jazz (or anybody else, for that matter) that has ANY trade value? Certainly not Hendu, Kukoc, or Crawford - we'd just end up with more junk in return. Counting Newble, we now have 13 players on the roster, and unless some idiot GM decides to do a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 deal with us, we're gonna have to eat even more salary.

You are right, though, that we need to take this one step at a time. Still, try to keep in my mind how BAD this team has been in the past and just how DESPERATE we are for a winner when you read the posts on this board. A little optimism never hurt anyone.

The wonderful thing about Marshall is that he is an unrestricted free agent. If we can come up with 5 million per season I say give him a 2 year contract and see what happens (cut e-mail to free up some money?). I think he would totally upgrade our team. 14-15 points per game and 8 rebounds per game is definitely what we could expect from him. I totally agree with mrhonline. He has the playoff experience and has been on a winning team. He would be an ideal veteran to bring in to teach the young Hawks how to win.

Please allow him to continue.....He is wrong plain and

simple.Nobody has suggest us look him up for years.

Kukoc was thought to maybe be the starting SF until

Dermarr develops....But as Kukoc's age is showing it's

clear he can't be that guy anymore.

I am suggesting we sign Marshall to year or two contract

and try and find a Young and unprove SF to develop.Of

course Marshall isn't a long term deal.I don't know why

this guy acts as if that is what I have said.

Look Marshall averaged his famous DOuble Double 2 yrs ago with golden state a team with no scorer or rebounder at Utah he has ave 14ppg and 7rpg in 30+ Min Per Game sounds Hendu esqe. HOW QUICKLY WE FORGET HOW Athletic Hendu used to be. DoNyELL same Height same weight about the same age, as Hendu. With the exception of Donyell's Goofy Cornrolls He an hendu Could pass for Borthers.

Donyells not young its safe to assume he's reached his potential and although it might be more than mine he still SUCKS. Hendu and CC are already here do we really need to unite the with their friend so theey can be the three musketeers.

OH GOD YESS DONYELL IS THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS I WAS WRONG WE WILLL MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. OH GOD COULD WE LOSE IN THE FIRST ROUND LIKE EVERY OTHER YEAR. OH YES AND WE ALL OWE IT TO DONYELL

Whatever PETE

GO GATORS

Are you stupid?Who said we I am looking for him as potential and

to be a long term option?I think you are just a idiot.

And actually I believe Golden State has been a top rebouding

team for alot of years(About the only think they do well)

You just say things with no backing up anything you say.

"HOW QUICKLY WE FORGET HOW Athletic Hendu used to be"

Yeah the old man just lost it out of nowhere. At the ripe old

age of 28 Hendu lost all of his athletic ability.

Basically all you are doing is turning the caps on(like a kid would

do)and rambling on about nothing.

Marshall is not a top player, but he is a fix while we get a young

guy to develop. You don't seem to understand that we don't have

the stuff to pull off a trade to get Battier...And do you believe

that dude really has alot of potential?I think he is about as good

as he is going to get.

You want players we can't get without giving something up.If you

want to get you have to give.We shouldn't trade Theo this off-

season,we shouldn't trade JT,we shouldn't trade SAR...Well how

the hell do you expect to get a good young player?

What is the point. DO we really need to make the playoff next year that badly? We are paying Hendu if he plays or not, so lets use him. We pay CC so lets use him. Let throw Smith / SLim / DG out there there not going to get better by watching from the bench weather we like it or not Marshall would be disruptive to DJ/DG's development. I dont think much of Dickua as a pro, but let throw him out there for a season and see if he starts to develop,if he's what they claim he'll be the next Jamaal Tinsley if he's not then a Backup PG will be on the itenerary for next off season. T-Mac, Oneal KG didn't develop until there was no on there to bail them out so if we realy want DJ/DG to develop we need to remove ther safety nets

Some reasons we could do really well with Donyell Marshall:

    1) he's got a reasonable contract
    2) he doesnt need a thousand shots per game
    3) READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY...we dont need a superstar AT EVERY POSITION, although it'd be nice, this is'nt NBALive
    4) he a solid, well rounded role player (though not spectacular, see #3) who we could expect to spend more time in a Hawks uniform than an Armani suit.
    5) he would give us quality depth and the flexibility to start either him with Ira as our defensive stopper from the bench, or start Ira with Marshall as our vet scorer from the bench.
    6) his #s last year: 1.7ast .86spg 1.16bpg 14.8ppg 7.6rpg; saying the guy sucks is completely laughable.
    7) he's a SMALL FORWARD and Slim is a SHOOTING GUARD, so I highly doubt he'd seriously hinder DerMarr's development

I certianly would'nt be crying in my beer if we picked up Marshall for 2 or even 3 years. Just my opinion...

If both players were in the FA market, Marshall would get getting calls from half the teams and Henderson would get getting calls from 5 teams or so (IMO).

Marshall and Henderson are different players.

Henderson is an undersized PF who plays inside like a PF.

Marshall is more of an SF who has an all-around game. He plays more like a role-player.

We could really use Marshall but he would be hard to get.

I believe the LAKERS were really high on him couple years ago.

Lakers dont want Henderson, ill tell u that. I think they rather have SAMALKI WAKER instead.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ROLE PLAYERS. We need more players like NEWBLE. He knows his role, but what about others on our team.

IMO- only ABDUR-RAHIM (team scorer and inside presence), Terry (create a shot by himself, second scorer), and Newble know their roles. I think Ratliff will find himself as a defensive specialist with rebounding capabilities.
