I thought they changed the ruling so that we could do whatever we wanted as long as we were under the salary cap...or something like that. I think it was no contracts over 4 or 5 years, no going over the salary cap, but I can't remember anymore.

Apparently, you don't remember the court ruling. It was that we could not take on contracts over 4 years in length without everyone involved agreeing (Belkin and the Spirit). That is why there was so much talk about Murphy not fitting the description because of the remaining 5 years on his contract. Dre has 3 more years, so he falls within the limitations because even if we don't trade any salary, we will be right at the salary cap which was the other stipulation of the court.

The real reason we won't get Dre is because of BK, he has screwed this team over. He is too stuborn to bring in Dre since that would mean that his Speedy move was in vain. No one is going to want to touch Speedy's contract without us giving something else and BK won't budge on that. Dre is just a pipe dream for those fans who wish we had a competant GM.
