Guest
Shaq being on the second team is a joke. Truly a joke...much moreso than some of the older guys who were, at one time, great defenders...say, Pippen or Payton. With Shaq's size and quickness, he ought to have many more boards and blocks...and that's not saying that he shouldn't be on the team because he needs to be held to a different standard...I simply don't think his numbers are that good, esp. with his missing so much of this season. Theo getting some nods and whatnot is appropriate...he was the league leader in blocks. The only thing that truly irks me about all defensive teams and the like is that they're essentially identical to gold gloves in baseball...once you win one, you are more than likely automatically going to be on one of the teams the next year (1st or 2nd) unless a) you really, really decline in play, or b) someone really realy steps it up and rides the media bandwagon to the award ceremony. The rankings are soemwhat indicative but should in no way be representative of who the best defenders are.
Admin capstone21 Posted May 8, 2003 Admin Report Share Posted May 8, 2003 I think it is a crime that Ron Artest is not on the first team. He is probably the best defensive player this past season. Poor ol'Ira...still no respect. He did not even get one vote.
