Gray Mule
-------just keeps going and going and going and ---- So does the sale of Phillips Arena, The Thrashers & Hawks! How can they continue to drag this thing out? Why can't they get their $tuff together?? It seems to go on and on and on with no end in sight. We keep hearing, "It's almost here." But ---------- On another subject --- Related to the first. I keep reading here how horrible the Hawks are going to be next season. How do we know, really? We don't know who the G.M. will be for the coming year. We don't know who will be the coach. We don't have any idea who will be the assistant coaches. We have at least three empty slots open on the roster and all the free agents are not signed by other teams, as of yet. We probably will try to fill these empty slots by the time the season begins, don't you think?? We have been told, after the deal and loss of Big Dog, there will probably be other deals before the season. We have been elated with our first draft pick. Now, we are told that he is no better than a sandlot player, that his M.V.P. award is nothing and that he has no talent. ----- Our second pick is seen as weak. Can't we ever win, even with a draft pick???? There seems to be a belief by some that some or all of the rest of the roster will be traded, sold or released and we will open the season with a full roster of N.B.A. Development League players consisting of Dickau and our draft picks plus nine free agent rookies. I sincerely believe, being always optimistic, that by the time the season rolls around, we will have a competive product on the floor. We will have a coach and a G.M. who will try to put out the best team possible. Can we make the playoffs? Not right now with no permanent coach or G.M. and only nine players on board. A lot of things must change before the season starts. Close the "Energizy Bunny" sale and get on with things!!!!
Traceman
us but after reading it, I'm more depressed than ever! As you said: 1) The sale is dragging out. 2) We don't know who our Gm is going to be. 3) We don't know who our coach is going to be. 4) We don't know who the Assistants are going to be. 5) We have 3 empty roster spots and while all the FAs haven't been signed, name ONE that is attainable that gets you excited. Stephen Jackson? Glover? DJ? Those are our best options right now. 6) I have never been ELATED with the Diaw pick. But after the Dog trade, I like it even less. All that being said, I hope you're right and that we will put a competitive product on the floor. Based on the 6 things listed above though, I can't say I'm looking forward to the season right now. All I can say is thank God for my Falcons season tickets!
Gray Mule
Why would I say that? Think a minute. When you are on the bottom, the only direction to look is up. With everything happening that we are talking about, Surely there is a silver lining in our dark cloud. E.S.P.N. article posted here in another thread would have us believe that we are a total loss -- Crashed the car and are on life support -- May not live until the season starts and have no hope for tomorrow, to ever be a complete product. {And no car, it's totaled } We have had almost all our players trashed to the point we are almost convinced that the only really good player we had from last season was Big Dog and he was traded for absolutely nothing. Then we find that we are to spend the early part of the season on the road, on the west coast, where the teams are so much better, their team that finishes last there could probably win the east easily, and we are the worst team in the weak eastern conference. By the time we finally get to play extended time at home, we will be so far behind that those that don't show up for home games will certainly not be there this year. Hawks will play in an empty arena. For those of you that don't ever see "Hee Haw," the haunting words of their song seems to be a perfect fit for Hawks fans for this season. It goes: "Gloom -- despair and agony on me, if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all." Keep looking up! Something good is bound to happen. I don't know what it will be, but surely there is good things out there yet to be discovered for the Hawks. Being a fan of all the Atlanta Pro teams, thru the good times and the bad, the Braves and Falcons have both been where the Hawks are now, on the bottom, trying to look up. Look at them now! I gotta believe the same success is in the Hawks future.
