BigDirty
Link You can add Orlando Magic guard Carlos Arroyo to the list of international players leaving the NBA for European clubs. Arroyo has joined Juan Carlos Navarro, Jorge Garbajosa, Carlos Delfino, Bostjan Nachbar, Primoz Brezec, and Nenad Krstic as the NBA continues losing players to tempting offers from across the Atlantic. Interbasket has learned that the Orlando Magic backup guard and Puerto Rican national team star has signed a three-year contract with Israeli powerhouse Macabbi Tel Aviv of the Euroleague. The contract is for $2.5 million for the first year with players options in the second and third year. Carlos Arroyo and Pat Garrity were the two remaining players that were still unsigned from last season’s Orlando Magic roster. Neither were expected to return to the team, but Arroyo’s return to the Euroleague was a bit of surprise. Well, as much as a surprise as this off-seasons can allow. Carlos Arroyo has had previous experience hooping in Europe, playing for Spanish club Tau Ceramica before coming back for seven years of mostly-backup NBA guard work for the Utah Jazz, Detroit Pistons, and Orlando Magic. Arroyo also led Puerto Rico in defeating the United States in the 2004 Olympics. Puerto Rico destroyed the Americans 92-73 in the opening game of the Athens Olympiad. In addition to the shocking exodus of foreign players this offseason, the NBA has also lost Josh Childress, an American player that played with the Atlanta Hawks.
