I'm glad he is off the list, I didn't think he would be that big of a help to the team.

Jazz to sign Raja Bell

September 26, 2003

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Guard Raja Bell is set to sign a two-year contract with the Utah Jazz after spending last season with the Dallas Mavericks.

His signing depends on the outcome of a physical, Jazz vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor said Friday.

The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 3.1 points in 15.6 minutes in his 32 starts and 75 games with the Mavericks last season. In his three-year career, he has averaged 3.2 points, 1.7 assists and 13.6 minutes.

On Thursday, the team announced its 20-man training camp roster headed by veterans Greg Ostertag and Andre Kirilenko. Also from last year's team are Matt Harpring, center John Amaechi, guards DeShawn Stevenson and Carlos Arroyo. Curtis Borchardt, Jarron Collins and Raul Lopez are returning after season-ending operations in 2002-03.

Among the newcomers are 2003 draft picks Aleksandar ``Sasha'' Pavlovic, Utah's first-round selection, and second-round pick Maurice Williams.

For the first time in nearly 20 seasons, the Jazz face a year without Karl Malone and John Stockton. Malone signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers over the summer and Stockton retired.

Jazz camp begins Wednesday.
