Guest
I said it before, but if Gearon Jr didn't have a longer-term plan before he released all this information then he's a bigger idiot than I gave him credit for. How in the world could you destroy a franchise's reputation, again, and not have a plan in place to pick up the pieces? How this guy thinks he can show his face in Atlanta is amazing. Let's recap: Almost as soon as the ASG buys the Hawks Gearon helps arrange the JJ SnT. That leads to the first legal action with Belkin. Belkin is then forced to sell, but wait, they can't even agree on the process as it was laid out in their owners' agreement. It takes, what, three years to get Belkin to sell his share (take not everyone- that precedence on the sell of this team, 3 years). Next comes the Thrashers mess where a team that was moving in the right direction and getting fan support all of a sudden is gutted and everyone stops going to the games. Then Gearon goes on the media saying he won't let the team leave the city. Within a week they are in Winnepeg. Gearon then cries on the radio that he didn't want to sell but his partners did. Then there is infamous Promise to S. Williams. Everyone attributes this to BK, but some inside sources have indicated it was actually Gearon Jr forcing BK to make that choice. GM Jr strikes again BK v. Woody. BK gets tired of Woodson's inability to develop guys BK drafted (not defending BK, just relating the issues) as well as the iso Joe offense. BK tries repeatedly to fire Woodson but is overridden by Jr. BK is then not retained in the off-season. Jr. brings in his ideal proxy GM in Sund. Sund makes a few good moves, but Jr decides Joe needs the largest contract in NBA history. Gearon is then removed from the President of the team duties by fellow owners. Sund eventually decides he's had enough of the ASG and lets them know he's retiring. Leavenson leads the efforts to replace Sund and finds Ferry. For whatever reason, more likely lack of direct communication, Jr decides he doesn't like Ferry and starts to look for reasons to get Leavenson and Ferry removed. And, here we are. Just think about that. Gearon Jr has been involved in some of the worst moments in Atlanta sports history, not all, but a lot of them over the past decade or so. In a nutshell. curtmcgirt
Junior thought Levenson would back down and give him control. Levenson called his bluff. But Junior is tapped out money-wise. womp womp
