I was wondering the same thing. They are playing as this was a pick up game where anyone can bring the ball up court.

Harris will be an upgrade on the offensive end and Diop will give them a big who can defend, but the loss of Kidd I think will deflate the team. Kidd did make the team as a whole better so he will be missed.

Everything I have heard so far has been positive. From Stephen A. Smith to the rest of the ESPN crew, all said it's a good trade for the Hawks.

if this deal was done with Belkin's consent since now we are over the salary cap? If so, maybe they finally decided to work together to improve this team and let the court decide the other stuff later.

I really think Speedy has made the decision to retire and his salary will come off the books.

The Hawks have agreed in principle to trade for Sacramento veteran Mike Bibby, sending veteran point guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue back to the Kings, along with second-year forward Shelden Williams and veteran center Lorenzen Wright. The deal is expected to be finalized Saturday afternoon, a person familiar with the situation told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Officials from the Hawks, Kings and NBA will participate in a 4 p.m. conference call. Bibby could join the Hawks in time for Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers, the first of five straight road games against Western Conference teams. The next night, the Hawks face the Kings in Sacramento. "This is another huge step for us," Johnson said Saturday while preparing to play in Sunday's 57th NBA All-Star Game. "You're talking about a guy who can make shots and can run a team. He embodies all the things we've wanted in a veteran point guard and he's also a guy that's known for taking and making big shots. "And you can never have too many guys like that in the NBA. As tough as it is to see guys like Lue, A.J., 'Ren and Shelden leave, we all realize that this is a business and decisions are made and you make the best of things and move on. But there's no doubt we're getting a guy that can help make us better." Bibby, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound, 10-year veteran, has been the Kings' starter the last seven seasons. A thumb injury limited his time earlier this season but he is averaging 13.5 points, 5.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds in the 15 games he's played in. He began his career in Vancouver, which drafted him No. 2 overall in 1998. Bibby was an instant hit with the Grizzlies and averaged 8.1 and 8.4 assists in his final two seasons before being traded to the Kings. Bibby has career averages 16.7 points, 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds. He led the Kings into the playoffs five straight seasons, averaging 17.9 points, 5.6 assist and 3.6 rebounds in 51 career playoff games. "Anytime you add a playoff tested player you know it has to be a good thing," said Hawks rookie center Al Horford. "This is obviously the first time I've ever experienced something like this, so I don't know how it will be. But everybody knows who Mike Bibby is and what he's done. And I can't imagine it being anything but a positive for us." Parting with Williams, the No. 5 pick in the 2006 NBA draft, ends his rather bizarre tenure with the Hawks. Williams began his rookie year in the starting lineup for an injured Marvin Williams and finished it as the Rookie of the Month after a string of double-double performances seemed to boost his stock. But he fell further out of coach Mike Woodson's playing rotation with the addition of the top 2007 draft pick Al Horford, who represented the Hawks here Friday night in the Rookie Challenge. Adding insult to that fate, Williams was carjacked outside of his barbershop in December. If he can't find a niche with the Kings, Shelden Williams will undoubtedly be viewed as a draft bust. The Hawks selected him one spot ahead of Portland's Brandon Roy, the 2006 Rookie of the Year, who is playing in Sunday's All-Star Game. Williams averaged just 2.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game this season and 4.7 points and 4.6 rebounds in 116 career games with the Hawks. Johnson, Lue and Wright are all veterans with contracts that expire at the end of this season, making them much more likely to be traded. He was a huge reason the Hawks ran off five straight December wins to vault themselves back into the Eastern Conference playoff mix. But he and Woodson clashed on several occasions and he never seemed to fully gain the coach's trust after that. He also served as the Hawks' locker room pulse, energizing things verbally with his wisecracks and humor. Does it bother anyone that there is not more talk among the pundits about this trade? I know the Shaq trade came out of nowhere and that's seems to be how a deal get done, but since this is All-Star weekend and the whole NBA is in one one place this rumor should be all over the networks. What do you think?

It seems like Sekou already knows but won't report it until the deal is complete and since the NBA prohibits any trades during the All-Star break look to hear something on Monday. Not with the particulars still somewhat murky and no deal officially done (what I can tell you is that not all the talent is heading to the Western Conference. Some of it might head East). But if you come here anytime over the weekend, there will be updates. Seriously, I wouldn’t leave you hanging after this type of build up. And if the deal I’ve heard rumblings about doesn’t happen, I’m going break it down for you as well. What I can tell you is this, after all the moaning and groaning that’s gone on around here over the Hawks sitting on their nest and not seeking out a spark to shake things up a bit, there appears to be a serious roster shake up on the horizon. And I mean SERIOUS! Seriously, it’ll be worth checking in this weekend to see if the thing comes together. Sights and sounds from the Big Easy on Friday: Al Horford was the picture of efficiency in the Rookie Challenge, piling up 19 points and seven rebounds in just 21 minutes and 21 seconds of action. He shot a smooth 8-for-10 from the floor and handled his business. Very impressive. And there isn’t a person here who doesn’t think this kid will spend a few All-Star Weekends in the future in uniform. And Big Al was more than happy to represent for the city of Atlanta and the Hawks. “I think it helps just to get the name out there - the Atlanta Hawks organization,” he said of he and Joe Johnson’s obligation this weekend. “I’m very proud to represent it and so is Joe Johnson. I feel like coming to a game like this gives us confidence going into the second half of the season.” Cleveland guard Daniel Gibson shot the lights out in the Sophomore’s 136-109 win. He was a stunning 11-for-20 from beyond the 3-point line (and 11-for-20 from the floor). It was insane. LeBron James wouldn’t sit down during the dazzling show, jumping to his feet every time Gibson drainer another shot. “Yeah, it was unbelievable,” Gibson said. “It was special. I never imagined. I never dreamed that I would come out and shoot the ball as well as I did in an environment and atmosphere like that. So right now I really don’t know what to say.” Hope he saved some of that mojo for Saturday’s 3-point shootout. But he wasn’t alone Friday. The second year guys shot a wicked 17-for-32 from deep, amazing even in a game where Horford and Paul Millsap were the only dudes even attempting to play defense. The folks questioning Joe Johnson’s credentials as an All-Star better not ask his teammates here if they think he deserves it. They scoffed at the idea that he’s here on credit (he got shafted last year and wasn’t included until Jason Kidd got hurt and had to bow out) rather than merit. It was quite interesting the way they rallied to his defense when the questions (not necessarily from me but from other journalists, many from abroad) about whether he belonged cranked up. As impressive, athletically, as some of these first and second year players looked, there has to be a better way to stage this type of game. I don’t have any fresh suggestions. But it’s getting uglier and uglier by the year. The rookies have lost six straight, and counting. One last thing. Talk about putting your front office on the spot. Check out Carmelo Anthony’s response when asked (not by me, there was a swarm of journalists around every player during Friday’s media availability session) what he thought about all the trades taking place in the Western Conference? “I’m just waiting for my phone to ring and see what we are going to do,” he said. “The West is getting back to the way it used to be. The Western Conference race is tough right now even for us because we are in the ninth spot I think, so we are trying for eighth. It’s going to come down to the last game in the season I can tell you that. Every team in the West has a chance to make the playoffs”

Sounds to me like he is getting a little frustrated and to get the heat off there may be a move of some kind of move coming soon. One can only hope....

And Memphis will have the option to either use those picks, or sell them off for other assets, or just for extra cash, like Phoenix did. The Lakers also got Memphis 2nd round pick in 2010. I am betting the Lakers 1st round pick will be really low and Memphis 2nd rounder will be really high. So in essence the Lakers gave up one 1st rounder in 2008 and moved back a few places in 2010.

He is an aging superstar who would only go to a contender

I am not sure what his contract is worth, but I think Bird will just about give him away to get him off the team. I wouldn't be surprise if they buy out his contract before the season ends.

This is one of the things I don't understand with Woody. He is forever preaching defense and he will not play the pg who will press the ball up the court. With Acie in the game we are not getting much offensely anyway, we might as well try to stop the opposing pg.

Diesel is right, we all do dumb things when we are young. Unfortunately, she will have to pay for this for the rest of her life. Since she dealt with a no good bum, she will need all the support she can from family. I feel for you because I had the identical situation with my niece.

I would bet on Indiana trying to move Tinsely, he and the coach can not co-exist in Indy right now. The problem would be if there would be any takers.
