  1. My hopes were up after thinking Indiana was out of the running for AL. I don't care how you look at this potential trade the Hawks is getting the bottom end. Regardless of how you feel about AL, he is worth more than a mid to bottom first round pick period. I am not pointing fingers because it looks like BK had to work around the crazy sh*t with the owners, but this deal just blows.....
  2. Quote: With that trade now off the table, there are really only a couple of deals I would look at. One is with the Lakers for Chris Mihm, Brian Cook, Aaron McKie, and a 1st round pick. The reason I support that deal is because Mihm, Cook, and McKie's contracts are off the books after this season, so they don't hurt our long term salary cap flexibility. Plus, both Chris Mihm and Brian Cook are younger players that could prove to be solid contributors that can be resigned at a reasonable cost, though getting Cook at a reasonable cost is more likely than getting Mihm. Someone will be willing to overpay to get Chris Mihm in the offseason. If we do get Mihm he may have some value at the trade deadline. I do not know how much since his contract is expiring, but some team in contention might try and win it now and give up something for him.
  3. I am surprised for this reason. After she was implicated in the BALCO scandal, I figured she would be smart enough not to do anything because she would be under the microscope. It's a shame because her whole legency and accomplishments would be about doping now.
  4. Since the deal with Indiana is dead, what do you think Lo W will do? Minn is suppose to have offered a contract.
  5. Quote: Harrington's deal to Pacers off Hawks open to offers for forward By SEKOU SMITH The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 08/19/06 The Hawks' proposed sign-and-trade deal sending Al Harrington back to the Indiana Pacers is dead, the free agent forward said Friday. The deal was dealt its fatal blow when the Pacers owners declined to agree to take Harrington — whom the Hawks were to sign to a six-year, $57 million deal — and third-year center John Edwards from the Hawks in exchange for a future first-round draft pick. The Pacers became unwilling to take on the six-year, $57 million contract in the proposed sign-and-trade deal for Hawks free agent Al Harrington. Now that Al Harrington won't be going to the Pacers, what should the Hawks do next? Get somebody who can help them now. Keep building for the future -- get a good draft pick. Help the guy get a deal he likes and the Hawks will get something good in return. After negotiating the deal one way, the Pacers owners decided they wanted to do a shorter deal, four years, and for far less money, $36 million. The Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves, all teams that have been in the Harrington mix from the start, are now poised to land the highest-profile player left on the free agent market. Friday's development, though, ends a month-long saga that would have returned Harrington to the Pacers franchise that drafted him, the team he spent his first six NBA seasons playing for in the city his mother and father now call home. "I'm just ready to know where I'm going to be playing next year," Harrington said by phone. "The Indiana deal was something that I really wanted to do. I was looking forward to it since it's a place I'm so familiar with. But it didn't happen. I want to be somewhere I'm wanted, and these other teams are really interested. "I feel like I can make an impact with any of those teams, whichever uniform I end up wearing. But ultimately, you have to go where you are wanted." http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/h...harrington.html It seems as AL has no idea where he might be going.
  6. homecourt-ML-165224-ML- I assumed you meant this for homecourt?
  7. There have been several thoughts on Billy Knight's job performance. Most have been negative. So the question is if the Hawks do make it to the playoffs, do BK deserve a contract extension.
  8. According to some news outlets, the police have been in contact with this guy through the internet for a while and he knew things about the case never released to the public. Hopefully they got the right guy.....
  9. Quote: It could have been that we gave up getting money in favor of getting less pick protection. Point is a lot of details need to come out b4 specific judgements are made. agreed...that's why I stated if the deal was going down as reported. No one knows what went on behind close doors but we can only go off of what the media is telling us because we won't get any information from our organization.

Quote: http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-bl...ng_somethi.html Quote: Getting something in return By Sekou Smith | Monday, August 14, 2006, 03:55 PM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Everyone from Martha Stewart to the Easter Bunny has had their say about the Hawks’ sign-and-trade deal for Al Harrington, how lopsided it is (not in the Hawks’ favor) and how they could have done this, that or the other to maximize their return. But unless I missed something about how sign-and-trades work for unrestricted free agents, the Hawks are doing something that the Detroit Pistons did not when they lost Ben Wallace to Chicago last month; they’re actually getting SOMETHING instead of nothing. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather get something in exchange for losing one of my best players as opposed to getting absolutely nothing. If we want to play the what-they-should-have-done game (one that’s a staple on this blog) we could do that forever, and some would argue that we have. But if the deal finally goes through (Pacers officials are scheduled to sit down and make a decision this afternoon), why would anyone be upset that the Hawks are actually getting something? If they had let Harrington walk away without any compensation I could understand the collective outrage. I’d be right there with you. I think a trade deadline package for say a point guard and young center makes better sense than going through the remainder of this past season with Harrington knowing you weren’t going to bring him back. But that’s not the song I was singing in February, before it became obvious that the Hawks’ ownership issues (and I’m done letting anyone tell me they have nothing to do with the day-to-day operations) would dictate every move, big and small, the team makes. Before we crucify Knight, we need to understand a little more about what he was actually allowed to do. I understand his hands may have been tied, but if this trade goes down the way it's been reported then someone in the Hawks organization got their ass spanked. I mean this is the same deal that was in place two weeks ago with less money. At that time, Ind was supposed to agree on giving 2.5 million but wouldn't go the whole 3 mil. Now I don't care about the 3 mil or if one red cent was to change hands, but this shows that either the change in agents scared the hell out of the Hawks and we went back and dropped our asking price or someone needs to go back to negotiation 101 to see once you have someone agreeing on a deal do not go back and drop those demands. I for one is happy we got something out of trading AL, but I feel we could have done better. Either way, I am glad this deal will be over and we can get back to getting ready to make a run for the playoffs this year.
  11. Quote: You have to be really impressed with the way Josh S has commited himself in the offseason. He is really setting the bar for Marvin and others and if he is bigger, maybe he can step into the PF position Exactly....This is the true sign of a star in the making
  12. I am impressed with the kicker. I remember him from last year and he showed he worked hard on his kicking this off-season.
  13. I know it's the first preseason game and I don't makr too much out of a game where the starters only play two series, but the first string defense still look really bad against the run. We need a big time run stopper. Hopefully, it will get better.
  14. Quote: Cons: 1. We obviously don't do well with Capspace, Capspace is for acquiring.. 2. We should be beyond acquiring young talent. Inn short, the Indy trade to me seems like a trade that doesen't fit our blueprint... i.e. it's good we got something for Al. That being the case, I can't be too excited about it. It's just one of those times where we lost but at least we got something. I have thought about this and maybe BK is not trying to continue to acquire more talent from the draft. This trade with Ind might be to put a bigger package together when the FA market is a lot deeper. I am trying to only look at the positives because if the deal is done we all just to just live with it.
  15. At one time he was my favor Hawk after coming to my high school to high out with our basketball team. I knew he had run-ins with the law but he has hit the very bottom. If this proves to be true and it sounds like he had admitted to at least being at the scene, then he knews to think back on his times in the NBA from a jail cell for the rest of his life. No pity what so ever for some sh*t like this....

The only thing I hate giving up in this deal is Bynum. I personally have high hopes for Bynum, but if we're trying to make the best of use of Kobe's prime years, maybe this would be a good deal. I know this would create a glut at the forward position, but maybe it would be best to accumulate talent and sort out the rest later. Maybe we could move Odom to PG (although it would create liabilities on defense) or play a 3-headed monster at the forward positions (with each of them averaging 32 minutes per/game). Or maybe we could use Odom as trade bait for a PG. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! 17. We can use the other pick to package in some other deal this or next year. The FA calss will be better and more players will be on the block. Once this ownership stuff get straight we will be in a better place to deal and we need as much as can get since our best trade assest (AL) will be gone.
  18. The one thing I didn't see in that deal was a pick. I think the one thing BK wants to do is get back into the next draft.
  19. Quote: That's what is really bugging everyone. Al for a first. Come on. Al was a 19 ppg scorer. If JJ costs 2 firsts and Diaw.. Al should get us a little more in return. I say we resign Al. Being that management see both Marvin and Smoove as Sfs anyway.. Why not resign a 19 ppg player and see how he plays with a better PG... This is what I am having a hard time understanding. It just seems like we go for the minimum with our biggest trade assest. I know our ownership is going through some sh*t and BK hands could be tied up but we should be asking for two #1s at least.
  20. Bernie stated this morning that we had the big mystery man signed but they wouldn't announce it until the SNT goes through.
  21. Bernie stated we had a player signed but could not be announce until Al's SNT is complete. We not only get the mystery big name but we get all the terms of the deal. Can this mean Al's deal is done?
  22. I think we can forget any deal which includes taking any player back. BK is unloading salary and not taking any back period.
