  1. We all know this current construction of the Hawks aren't getting past the Cavs. However we are a good team that is fun to watch and imploding doesn't make sense either. So let's try this. We deal Teague and Scott ( or Bazemore if he wanted to go an they were willing to pay) and maybe a 2nd for Carmelo Anthony. I would be willing include a future first rounder but only if it had a lot of protection. This deal works because it creates a new future for a couple stagnant franchises. Potentially, if we could get this deal done early, we could still sign Horford and move forward with... Schröder/ 2016 first rounder Korver/ Hardaway/ Patterson Melo/ Thabo Sap/Humphries Horford/ Muscala/ Tavares The Knicks lose a fading star but get a quality pg and a talented wing to pair with their unicorn. I may be showing that I am homer in this trade, but I can't really image the Knicks getting more for Melo. We still get out rebounded by any team with good bigs. We still have no one to guard. Lebron. But we finally have an option when the clock is winding down. And we finally have someone who can end those horrifying scoring droughts, all without mortgaging our future or disassembling our core. Whadduyathink?
  2. Wow. Just...WOW! What is this from? And additionally...WOW!!!!!!!!
  3. http://basketball.eurobasket.com/player/Mike_Muscala/Blusens_Monbus_Obradoiro_CAB/187404 Averaging 14 points and 8 boards. Check out the 90% from the stripe. Super small sample size but impressive nonetheless. http://basketball.eurobasket.com/player/Lucas_Nogueira/Asefa_Estudiantes_Madrid/226125 5 points and 4 boards a game for Sideshow Luck. Also getting a block and a half per game.
  4. Check it out. I was just perusing a Golden State message board to see if they had any news on D12 and was surprised to see so many people say that they would NOT want to do a sign and trade for D12 where they give up Klay Thompson or Harrison Barnes + 1st Rounder and Bogut.Hopefully, the management listens and they give the fans what they want...and give us Dwight.BTW some of their sigs are NSFWhttp://www.goldenstwarriors.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10467
  5. If D12 comes to Atlanta with CP3 he gets to have the offense and defense built around him without having to be the face of the franchise. Horford is the link to the old regime, already has a great rapport with the media and will continue to be a guy that the press goes to after tough losses for a quote. CP3 would be the alpha dog that would eventually become the face of the franchise, mainly because his personality won't allow anything different. And Dwight can just be Dwight, a supremely blessed, hard working, durable big that can dominate on both ends of the court with a big Kool-Aid grin on his face. In this scenario, his happy-go-lucky, what-me-worry persona would be valued not asked to change. This is the only scenario that relieves the INTENSE media scrutiny that he will face for the rest of his career. That's the kind of thing that can change a legacy. Think about it. In Houston he's compared with Hakeem and Duncan (Texas) while trying to get past a hungry OKC team, the ultra competitive Grizzlies, a talented Clipper Squad, the up-and-coming Warriorsand even a Nuggets team that is SOOO MUCH FUN to watch. In LA, he's got the ghosts of Mikan, West, Baylor, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Shaq, and soon to be Kobe looming over him with (literally) championship banner after championship banner. Dallas has the attention hound (and wonderful owner) Marc Cuban, so Dwight's not escaping the media spotlight there. Plus they still have to get through the west every year. New Jersey probably can't get him but their owner is FAR too intense to work well with Dwight if they could. Honestly, the best thing for Dwight would be to come home to the A with Al and CP3 to contend for the Eastern crown with a rapidly aging Miami team, a great Bulls team with a talented but odd star, and a thick gritty Pacers squad (that, mind you wouldn't have a size advantage against our Dwight and Al Hawks team). If he helps get us to through the East once, he becomes a a Hawk legend (especially if he signs first). If we were to win a title, he and CP3 replace Nique' as the greatest Hawks in history (this is more a comment on how we favor recent things over all else...not saying they would actually be better than Pettit or Nique or Marovich or Shelden...jk on Shellhead). The smart move for Dwight is to try to convince Chirs Paul to join him in Atlanta.
  6. Ronnie Brewer will be a free agent this year as well.
  7. No, I'm saying get Ronnie Brewer over Corey Brewer. Ronnie has a chance at guarding LeBron and Carmello because he get play physical with them.
  8. I feel that in the East this team could be competitve (i.e. make playoffs and be a more difficult out than we were this year) if any one player got hurt. If two of the big four (CP3, D12, Al, or Lou) got hurt...yea we'd be screwed...but isn't that the case for just about every team.
  9. That's why if we get a shot at Ronnie Brewer, we gotta take it. Athletic, can rebound a bit, play 2 or 3, can handle a bit, and is prolly the best matchup against LeBron this side of Jimmy Butler.
  10. So, using 2K's most current rosters, and starting an Association on May 7, 2013, I simmed the rest of the playoffs. No D. Rose for the Bulls, no Granger for the Pacers and no Westbrook for OKC. Chicago swept Miami, swept the Pacers and then swept OKC to win it all.On to the offseason...Renounced rights to Teague and Korver.Drafted Lucas Nogueria and Dennis Schröder.Signed Chris Paul first...then Dwight Howard.Used MLE to sign Ronnie Brewer, Korver, Dajaun Summers, Ronnie Turiaf, and Brian Cook.2013-2014 HawksCP3/Lou/ SchroederBrewer/JenkinsKorver/SummersHorford/Summers/CookD12/Turiaf/NogueriaThat is a squad that has some holes (only 2 guys that can create their own shot, could use another athletic wing and/or a Ivan Johson type goon) but would be very competitive (especially in the East). And this is a scenario that is actually possible. What do youse guys think?
  11. Try this one out guys http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7vxl8j2 ATL gives: Josh Smith, Kirk Hinrich, Marvin Williams, unprotected 2012 1st rd pick, 2011 2nd round pick from PHX, unprotected 2013 1st rd pick ATL gets: Dwight Howard and Hedo Turkoglu ORL gives: Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu, 2013 2nd rd pick ORL gets: Demarcus Cousins, Kirk Hinrich, J.J. Hickson, ATL unprotected 2012 1st rd pick, ATL 2011 2nd round pick from PHX, SAC protected 2012 1st rd pick, ATL unprotected 2013 1st rd pick, SAC gives: DeMarcus Cousins, J.J. Hickson, protected 2012 1st rd pick SAC gets: Josh Smith and Marvin Williams Trade Logic ORL- They have to trade Dwight but get a 21 year old double double machine in Cousins. The deal is sweetened by ATL taking Turkoglu's contract and receiving the expiring contract of Kirk Hinrich. Orlando also receives three 1st round picks and a good 2nd rounder plus a still young J.J. Hickson (who was a hot commodity a few years back). Not a bad haul for Orlando. SAC- Sacramento is in a tough situation because they have a disgruntled head case. The head case part lowers Cousin's stock (because 21 year old bigs with HUGE upside are hard to come by...see DeAndre Jordan). But they make out pretty good in this deal. They bring in Josh Smith and Marvin Williams, two forwards who play well together and two guys who would be starters on their current roster. Obviously the big draw is Smith, who is under contract for 2 years. This move would certainly net Sacto a few more wins in the short term, which, considering their difficult situation, isn't too bad. ATL-We get D12 and Hedo (who plays well with Howard) while keeping Horford and Teague. Marvin's recent brilliance gets turned into a franchise changing trade and we sacrifice our future for the present. But oh what a present!!!! Teague, JJ, Horford and D12 work together well with Hedo for a starting five. That team can shoot from anywhere, post up, get to the line, rebound and defend. And our solid bench remains intact. This team even makes sense in terms of health. The only starter that has missed substantial time is Hedo. We have McGrady and Stack to step up in a pinch. And even if they were to be injured, small forward may be the easiest position to fill in the NBA. Also we keep our 2nd rounder for 2012 and 2013 (to fill our roster with cheap talent). Lineups ORL Cousins/Orton Anderson/Davis/Hickson Q. Richardson/Clark J. Richardson/Reddick/Wafer Nelson/Duhon/Hinrich * ORL probably continues firesale by trading Nelson or Duhon to a title contender down the stretch ** This trade makes most sense if the do it early so they can get better picks in this draft (a very deep crop) SAC Hayes/Thompson/Whiteside Smith/Greene Williams/Salmons/Outlaw Thornton/Garcia Evans/Fredette/Thomas ATL Howard/Pachulia/Collins Horford/I.Johnson Turkoglu/McGrady/Stackhouse J. Johnson/Green Teague/Pargo/Sloan I gave lots of details but don't get too bogged down by them. I think something like this could work. Get 'er done Sund!
  12. Here's the trade. HOU receives Jeff Teague Jamal Crawford Marvin Williams Top 5 Lottery protected 1st rounder in near future ATL receives Aaron Brooks Yao Ming Why would Houston do this? Houston is an old team that is not playing well at all. That's a perfect storm for a fire sale. Yao Ming is not going to be a 30-35 minute a game player that you can build a team around. Those days are long gone. He may become a valuable 20-25 minute guy for 40-50 games a year. He's in the last year of a contract that he is making 17 mil. They aren't going to pay him that much to be a glorified role player. And they have to be considering moving in a new direction. If you trade Yao, you at least get something for him. Aaron Brooks is a very interesting piece. Check this out. Brooks isn't happy, is currently hurt and will probably not be back next season. The Rockets seem to have shown him that they are looking to deal him. He's looking for a big payday and Houston (a struggling old team) doesn't want to give a big deal to a guard that barely is 6 feet tall. Trade him now and you get something back for him. Jeff Teague is young and talented. He has not shown much as a pro but it seems like there is an NBA guard inside of him. Would this trade go through, Houston could give Teague 20-25 minutes a game as a backup to Kyle Lowry. Marvin Williams is a solid but unspectacular player who is locked up for a while. He's not going to get drastically worse. Probably not going to get much better. They also would receive Crawford (to make the trade work). Chances are they wouldn't resign Craw as he is like a Kevin Martin with better handles and worse shot selection. Finally, they would get a 1st round pick to help the restock their team with talent for the future. This team needs to realize they aren't going to make any significant runs in the playoffs with their current roster. Allowing for the proposed trade the Rockets could go into the off-season with 26 mil decrease in payroll, putting them under the cap and able to make a run at Carmelo, Tayshaun Prince, Zach Randolph, Shannon Brown, and/ or Tony Parker. Why would we do this? Aaron Brooks is a quick pg who can shoot off the catch and off the dribble. He can get to the basket whenever we wants and is a creative finisher. He is also a game closer. He's an above average passer whose assist numbers look worse because he plays in a motion offense where the pg isn't allowed to dominate the ball like Nash in PHX, Williams in UTA, or Paul in NO.Given that we would replace Jamal with Jordan and wouldn't have Marvin to pay, I would be willing to pay Brooks a good 4 or 5 year deal averaging 9 a season or so (no worse than Marvin's deal). In the short term we get Yao Ming, our first true center since Dekembe Moutombo. Imagine this line-up for the rest pf the season. Brooks/Bibby Joe/Jordan Crawford Smoove/Mo/Sy Horford/Powell/Thomas Ming/Pachulia/ Collins Horford has been a beast this season. His improved midrange game is a delightful surprise. He'd get better looks with Brooks able to penetrate and dish at will. He'd face smaller defenders and be able to push them around a bit more because he'd log a few more minutes at PF. Brooks long range shooting allows for us to not miss Marvin at all. Ming's midrange shooting (with Al's improvements there) allow for good spacing on the floor. Yao is not a great passer out of the double team but he is quite an outlet guy. Imagine a fast break led by a quick, aggressive brooks with Josh and Al on the wings and Joe trailing for the transition three. Pachulia would obviously get a few more minutes a game than now and would need to start WHEN Ming had to take a few games off. But I think this team would have a much better shot against Orlando and Boston. So what do you guys think? Is this realistic? How would we fare if we made it? As far fetched as it may seem it can't be any worse than the Gasol deal...or the Bibby deal...or even the Crawford deal.
  13. If we could turn JChillz' contract into a pick that got us Stephen Curry...that'd be awesome...our future replacement for Bibby.
  14. I'd use him as a sign and trade to get a an athletic Big with high potential, (like a JaVale McGee, Andray Blatche, DeAndre Jordan, Hilton Armstrong, Johan Petro or Mohammed Sane), an athletice combo guard or wing who can bring energy (like Shannon Brown or Gerald Greene), or just a late 1st or early second. Anything we can get for him would be better than nothing.
  15. I just logged onto ESPN.com and the front page of the website is dedicated to your Atlanta Hawks. J.A. Adonde wrote an extremely positive article on us. Tim Leggler was raving about us last night on NBA Fastbreak and said that Woody was his early season pick for coach of the year. Did I wake up in the twilight zone? Anyway two additional thoughts... 1) I wonder what Chad Ford is gonna say about this team? 2) I wonder what is going through Billy "The Dark" Knight's mind...To go further with that metaphor does that make Rick Sund= Harvey Dent?
  16. I think this is a great move for Philly. But does anybody think it's a bit risky to throw that type of money on a player who is just coming off a major injury. Brand's always been tough and never considered injury prone, but he's 254 pounds and just had a major ankle injury (ruptured Achilles tendon). Dan Marino never threw 30 TD's after his. I think Nique popped his as well. Can anybody think of any success or failure stories of star players coming back a from ruptures (not just strained like VC) Achilles tendon? The point is this...Brand isn't young at 29 (isn't old either though) and while he's in great shape, he carries a lot of weight. Can his surgically repaired Achilles hold up? A better question may be will he have confidence in it? Another question we could ask is will he injure another body part compensating for discomfort of lack of explosiveness that could come his way. And foot/ ankle injuries for Bigs can end careers. I'm thinking about Bill Walton and Rik Smits...It almost ended Ilgauskis' (sp?) Come to think of it...I think that the injury that robbed Arvydas Sabonis of mobility and started his back troubles was a torn Achilles. I think there is a least a decent chance that the 20/10 Brand is a thing of the past. He's always been surprisingly explosive. If he loses that explosiveness...at his height...he really may take a step back. I think he'll still be a good player...but I was just letting my mind wander. This is definitely a high risk, high reward move...Any thoughts guys?
  17. Is there any way we could... 1) Sign Smoove 2) Sign Chillz 3) Trade Marvin and Bibby for assets like picks or a shooter 4) Make a decent offer on Emeka Okefor Law/*filler/West JJ/Richardson Smoove/Chillz Horford/Solomon Okafor/Zaza * I refuse to expect anything out of Craig Claxton...I think that's just dumb. We rebound and defend anything that moves...JJ and Horf take on more of the scoring load
  18. This is a trade I was thinking about. Tell me what you guys think about it. Chicago receives Zach Randolph Marvin Williams New York receives Mike Bibby Speedy Claxton Drew Gooden Zaza Pachulia Atlanta's unprotected 2009 1st round pick Chicago's top 10 protected 2009 1st round pick Atlanta's 2010 2nd round pick Atlanta receives Kirk Hinrich Jerome James Malik Rose Andres Nocioni New York's 2008 1st round pick (6th overall) Chicago Potential Depth Chart Rose/Duhon Gordon/Hughes/ Brown Deng/Williams/Sefalosha Randolph/ Thomas/Simmons Noah/ Gray Chi-town will have a pretty impressive rotation. They finally have a big who can score in the post and be a big time rebounder (Randolph), pairing him with the effort guys Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas. Then you draft Derek Rose and put jump shooters all around him (Gordon, Deng, and Marvin Williams). With this squad and a weak East I think they'd have a real shot at the playoffs (especially if Randolph plays a little defense). New York Potential Depth Chart Bibby/Robinson Crawford/ Collins Richardson/Jeffries Lee/Gooden Curry/Zaza D'Antoni gets a PG in Bibby and gets rid of Rose and James contract. While they take on bad contracts in Claxton and Gooden, the Knicks get big time flexibility in the future, acquiring two first rounders for next year. The idea is that they tank this year and get a top 3 pick next year. Then trade Bibby and Chi's and Atl's pick for next year's disgruntled star (maybe Carmelo Anthony or Gilbert Arenas or Elton Brand or Vince Carter). So with this move they trade one valuable piece (the 6th pick) into three valuable pieces (Bibby and 2 1st's) while getting rid of a team cancer (Randolph). Atlanta Potential Depth Chart Hinrich/Law JJ/Richardson/West Nocioni/ Chillz Smith/Jones/ Rose Horford/ Andersen/James I'd have us use that #6 pick on JaVale McGee http://youtube.com/watch?v=gSh4w-UPUk4. This trade would give us three legit long range shooters in the starting five with one (maybe two in Andersen) coming off the bench. Chillz continues to bring energy off the bench. We keep Law to use when we want to push the ball a little more. We can go big by playing JJ/Chillz/Smoove/Horford/Anderson from 1-5. We also have another freakishly athletic big. The bad part of this deal is that we have NO flexibility for the future. But the dream, three years in the future, of running McGee/Horford/Smoove/JJ/Hinrich 5-1 is a nice place to be stuck.
  19. Quote: I like what expiring contracts can get you, but I'd much prefer to have all my money well spent. So let's not get carried away here. I feel ya...I'm just seeing that it's not so bad to have a bad contract or two on the bench if it can net you an all-star.
  20. Quote: No I just got off the phone with him and BK. LOL, it is from ajc.com, sorry I forgot to write where I saw it. Billy probably wouldn't talk to his own mother about Hawk related issues. BK: Hey momma!!! Mamma Knight: Hey baby, how's work? BK: (long pause) Now I done told you about asking about my work!!!! DON'T...GO...THERE...(long pause) BK: So how's dad doing? MK: He's fine baby.
  21. I could also see Zaza as trade bait next year (especially if Solomon Jones develops into a reliable 2nd stringer). It's so nice to take bad decisions (AJ trade, drafting Shelden) and turn them into a good one. It's like buying a Kia. Realizing it's crap, and then trading it to a buddy for a Honda with a few more miles.
  22. Quote: I know it is only a 2ndround pick but it kind of sucks not to have any draft picks this year. I guess there will be no reason for me to watch the draft this year. true...but I think I can get over that pretty quickly. In fact.......yea....I'm already over it.
  23. Quote: He says we are a good young team and we can do some things here. BK says he made this move to energize the team and he talked to Hawks players about using this move as a catalyst. He said Bibby will be great with JJ. Was this on the radio or something?
  24. Quote: Sekou is like the Anti-Schutlz so you're saying he is readable?!?!?
