  1. Quote: LOL at the ToeTaggers, why did you bench Randy Moss and Plaxico Burress in favor of Muhsin Muhammed and Michael Jenkins?? You lost like 50 points on that. I know, I know. I wasn't sure how Moss was going to play (if he was going to play). They've been very quiet on his pre-season. And Plaxico either gets those numbers or he catches one pass. Never consistant. I liked Jenkins against last years worst pass defense. Just unlucky man.
  2. Quote: The year Jordan won his first title he came into camp out of shape and played his way into shape. His idea of working out that summer was walking the golf course instead of riding a cart. Really? I always thought different. Anyway, it's an even better reason to not compare the two. Jordan was so good he didn't need to put in the extra work. Marvin...I'll let you decide. My statments in this thread aren't related to the interview BTW. Simply on the reply to Jordan.
  3. To be a #2 pick? He needs to improve on EVERYTHING. Dramatically. It's that simple. He doesn't do any one particular thing well enough to be content. Shooting, Post-Up, Defense, Shooting (the deeper the better), Handles (insert skill here)all need significant improvment. He's simply no better than average at anything. Some things below. The thing is he can be above average at most skills. It's his choice. Better question...What does Marvin do adequately enough to not need to work on extendedly?
  4. Quote: Marvin is a professional basketball player. So were Jordan and Bird. It isn't that complicated. If we are judging Marvin based on his summer activities then we should hold other players to the same standard. Compared to Marvin i could say that Jordan and Bird were lazy bums during the summer. I have issues with Marvin's desire too but this business about his summer is overblown. It is the OFFseason. He was getting up at 7:00 to lift and i can tell you from experience that morning workouts are a major pain. And it sounds like he was playing pickup games as well. The bottom line is that what happens during the season is what matters. So far Marvin hasn't lived up to expectations. Now is the time for him to produce. If he does produce nobody will give a crap what he did during the summer. But to be fair Jordan was just an athletic freak until he started putting in that extra work. Then he became "Jordan". And I believe we would have a championship today had Jordan continued to not put in that extra work.
  5. Quote: Quote: I can see your point, but... why don't we just make him the focal point for us so he can put up those numbers against weaker defenders? Focal point or not, I believe that putting those numbers up against better defenders (who are trying to shut him down because he is their best player) makes it more impressive. We don't make him our focal point for the same reason no NBA team made Shane Heal their focal point. They aren't good enough for that. Who wants to steer the ball away from Joe Johnson to try to highlight the game of Esteban Batista? I like Este fine, but he is a role player in the NBA, IMO. I would give him minutes over Lo Wright but not feature him at the expense of Josh Smith, for example. I agree. I would only give him minutes over Solo only if stituation dictates. All I'm saying is that there can be, because of his play against the US, a legit argument that he deserves a spot over Solo...nothing more.
  6. Quote: Quote: Quote: Quote: No wonder your opinion on the two is skewed. No, you just wrote incorrectly. He put those numbers up against the U.S. team in an international competition, not an NBA team in an NBA game. Dude are you trying to kill your own argument? Which is really more impressive... Him putting up those numbers against (insert ANY NBA team here)or the NBA ALL Stars that he did put them up against? I don't know about you but it's more impressive to do what he did against the team he did it to than even the Spurs. It is less impressive to me that he did it against a great bunch of players in international basketball while being the focal point of his team. Think Shane Heal, Eddie Casiano, Antonis Fotsis, Sarunas Jasikevicius, and Valter Monteiro. When you say "who?", I say "exactly." When you say, "wait, I know Heal played in the NBA for 6 whole games and that Sarunas has been a bench scrub in the NBA," I say "exactly." International success against the US team doesn't translate into a successful NBA career. Note that I don't think it is any kind of impediment, the two just aren't closely related. I can see your point, but... why don't we just make him the focal point for us so he can put up those numbers against weaker defenders? Focal point or not, I believe that putting those numbers up against better defenders (who are trying to shut him down because he is their best player) makes it more impressive. International competition doesn't matter when he's playing NBA All-Stars. Internation competition would belittle his performance if he did it against China. Now, it would help his cause if he did it during the NBA season, however, he did it against the NBA's best and that is enough ammo to make it a reasonable argument (which is my point).

  8. Quote: The fans overrate Shelden? Really?? Yeah, I'm confused on that one Diesel. Underrated or spot-on (depending how he performs) but "overrated?" I think only you have overrated him lol.
  9. Good post. He was before my time and I never realized he put up those kind of numbers. I knew the name, but was obviously unaware of the player.
  10. Quote: Quote: Umm, schooled arguably the best NBA team ever assembled. Does that count? I must've missed that game. No wonder your opinion on the two is skewed. He put up some very impressive numbers against the U.S. team recently. Better numbers than solo ever put up against an NBA team, much less an NBA All-Star team. Again, not saying Batista is better, simply saying that it is a legit argument.
  11. Quote: Quote: Umm, schooled arguably the best NBA team ever assembled. Does that count? What has he done in the NBA???? Heck Carlos Arroyo look like a world beater in international play!! Solo has performed in an NBA game!! When has Batista? Well to be fair he hasn't had much of a chance has he. Look I'm not saying he's better than Solo, I'm just saying there is an argument for it.
  12. This is too easy. Al Horford is without a doubt the most overrated. He hasn't even played in a league game and is already annointed by some as our "best post player", or "best defender", or "best big man". Please hold off on judging rookies until they hit the floor against other NBA'rs.
  13. Quote: Quote: I am leaning towards Batista over Solo. I love Solos athleticism, but his overall game is rawer than Smooves when he was a rookie. Batista probably has the best post game on the team. WTF? Where is all of this Batista love coming from? Maybe I've been watching the wrong Batista! But the Batista that I've seen on the court for the Hawks has no where near the NBA grade post game that posters are claiming. In fact, he has only marginal NBA grade basketball skills period! Quote: I would definitely agree on that. I just can't see Solo being a major contributor in the NBA. He is intriguing with his length and hops, but at his age I don't think he will ever really bulk up and that will be a problem. With Batista, he has the NBA size and strength. He is still a long shot, but he could do ok if he learned to stop fouling (by NBA standards), and relax a little with the ball. Of course it's hard to do that without decent minutes though. My goodness! Didn't Solo block like 5 shots in a game last year and shot 80% from the free throw line. What in heck has Batista done in 2 year to warrant this type of praise? Umm, schooled arguably the best NBA team ever assembled. Does that count?
  14. Quote: There are dumb white guys and dumb black guys. Which is why we need a Chinese coach.
  15. I can agree with most of that and I too have been a Hawks fan for a lot longer than I've been a HawkSquawker. It's tough to be the new kid on the block but I hope you enjoy your time here.
  16. I thought the older we got the WISER we got. So why are you still a Hawks fan? I was hoping this was just an immature phase. But seriously... Happy B-day sir!!!
  17. Quote: Quote: The sole FACT is that Wade had the highest PER in the league, and to argue that JJ is better than Wade is just being a blind homer. So you're saying Wade is better than Kobe AND Lebron? It's arguable at least. Yours is not. I would say all 3 are better than JJ right now. Do you think JJ is better than Kobe or Lebron? And again, you still haven't ansered my question...What does JJ do, other than shooting, better than Wade? And don't answer shooting is all that matters. Cause we both know (at least I hope) that is B.S.
  18. Quote: Quote: Quote: You still have'nt told me what skill does Wade have that JJ doesn't..other than dunking Wow, you are serious. Ok (I can't believe this is even required) get's to the line more, a better finisher, better handles, quicker, defense, Finals MVP... do I need to keep going? Look you have to be the biggest homer on this board. So homer, what exactly does JJ do better than Wade other than shoot? I bet you think JJ is better than Kobe as well? I like JJ better but I don't usually wear my hawk-colored glasses when discussing logical b-ball. If you go back to my original comment it was what does Wade do appreciably better than JJ in the context of a Heat vs. Hawks comparison. So the point is that the comparison is basically a wash and my contention is that if you gave JJ the 2006 Heat team he probably would win the title as well. To me JJ is more of a Pat Riley type of player than Wade is, with his defensive prowess and positional flexibility. Yeah and in your original argument you also put a picture of Homer Simpson next to the line where you picked Wade over JJ. You even knew that was a homer call in the original post. Now you're going to argue with it when someone calls you on it? Oh yeah and shooting is not the only requirement for the SG position. If that were the case Mike Miller would be better than both.

  20. Quote: If they are anything like fall out boy, I've got about 400 cds you should listen to first. JK, man. I'm an older punk now. All civilized and sh!t! Seriously though, I think it's funny what constitutes punk to different generations. And even the differences of opinion between the same generation can be bewildering at times. To me It's stuff like The Clash, The Ramones, MC5(look them up... a must), then there's LA punk(rhcp, gnr, etc), skate punk(Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Weezer), you've got the whole straight edge punk thing. Ska punk, There are so many ways to look at it. I think it's all about having fun and making visceral, fun music. Everybody gets old, though Yeah this new "punk" is more like "emo". Try Agnostic Front, Bad Religion, Minor Threat etc. etc. THOSE are punk bands.
  21. Yeah, 2k7 by a mile. For a few years now. I used to be strictly Live but they've dropped the ball for a while.
  22. Quote: Quote: Quote: Quote: Quote: I'd take JJ over Wade. lol I'm glad you put the homer picture in there. Its a homer pick but Wade does nothing appreciably better than JJ...except dunk. Are you serious? I've gotta disagree. I love JJ and all but Wade is a top-tier SG JJ being one notch below. Why because he does T-mobile commercials with Barkley? If you gave JJ Wade's squad he would have put up similar numbers and would have had similar results. Similar results like a ring? I doubt it.
  23. Quote: This division is a hell of a lot closer than it was coming into last year. Miami has decayed over the course of the last season and the teams at the bottom have significantly improved themselves. This should be the most competitive year in the division yet. I agree. I think O-Town will prevail this year though.
