  1. I think Hawks will go hard for Durant in the offseason as well. Gonna be a tough haul and OKC can offer him most and he is from the West Coast, but if we have another good year and OKC stinks it up, who knows?
  2. Still, no clear replacement for DeMarre at SF. We have NO ONE who can guard LeBron who we know we must go through. What is going on? Trade in the works? Slow-playing one more season to try to get someone more big time next offseason? What is our projected starting 5 even?
  3. Let's go get him!!! Would LOVE this move. DeMarre part two. Let's sign him for more than two years though, k?
  4. Wes Johnson, Rasual Butler, and Dorell Wright...in that order. Though Rasual/Wes is a tough call.
  5. Never underestimate the power of a player going from a toxic losing situation, playing with a cancer like Melo, to a team with the reigning Coach of the Year...as people have said, note the energy infused into both JR Smith and Shumpert just for having been put on a winner. Hardaway has proven to be a winner in college. I'm not ready to dismiss him after two years on what has arguably been the most worst franchise since he's been there. I do also wonder if the Hawks were hoping Dekker would slip to 19, and this was a "plan B". That said, I can't wait for this thread to be revisited next season when Hardaway has either A) become a useful piece or B) been utilized in a trade or whose contract allows us to do more in free ageny. Who is the resident "re-visiter"? Please do bump this mid-season. I suspect lots of fools are gonna be exposed.
  6. I like the fight...especially when playing for nothing. That's me on the court in rec. Calling out lazy players who can do more.
  7. Guys, if Bud made a play for a guy he has seen NBA film on, coached against, I'm ALL IN. How much excitement was there for DeMarre? He was mediocre for like 4 teams before us. #InBudITrust
  8. I think it's a little ridiculous when a story this significant comes out it gets merged into this megathread that has like 50 different ongoing discussions going on. I really do wonder sometimes if the mods have OCD.
  9. Note a hater. Just doesn't take a genius to realize Schröder is more talented and will be better. Think how good he will be in 5.5 years. Cuz that's where Teague is now.
  10. Herein you again display a warped sense of logic. They aren't bringing in anyone new. Heady false equivalency, brah.
  11. And, the obvious next question would be....is it too late to bring him back? My guess would be yes, fwiw. What a travesty.
  12. No, we finally have two. One will have to go. And it will be Teague. MARK IT.
  13. And this kind of reasoning is why I find you to be the resident clown. There isn't a single sane person who thinks Dennis won't be better than Teague. He's 6 years younger and came over from Europe (ie. not raised playing American ball). He's raw, dude. Improvement from year 1 to year 2 was REMARKABLE. And, you can bet your a$$ that Teague won't be on our team after his contract expires if not sooner.
  14. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13120618/law-firm-says-no-evidence-danny-ferry-was-motivated-bias-luol-deng-comments Law firm: 'No evidence' Danny Ferry was motivated by bias in Luol Deng comments 20h - NBA ATLANTA HAWK - Kevin Arnovitz, Brian Windhorst The law firm that investigated former Atlanta Hawks general manager Danny Ferry said it found no evidence that his comments on a conference call about NBA forward Luol Dengwere "motivated by racial, ethnic, or country of origination bias or animus," and that Ferry repeated comments that were not his own, according to documents obtained by ESPN. "The facts indicated that you repeated comments that were not your own about Mr. Deng from a scouting report during the call," the law firm that investigated former Hawks GM Danny Ferry, above, said in a letter. Scott Cunningham/NBAE/Getty Images On the call, which occurred June 6, 2014, Ferry characterized Deng as a player who "has a little African in him," and added, "He's like a guy who would have a nice store out front and sell you counterfeit stuff out of the back." Ferry has maintained he was reading from a scouting report prepared by a third party. The incident prompted the Hawks to conduct an internal investigation by Atlanta-based law firm Alston & Bird, led by partner Bernard Taylor. In a letter to Ferry dated June 19, Taylor wrote that he believed the team provided access to all of Ferry's work emails, in addition to 24,000 documents. Taylor said the firm also performed 19 witness interviews. "We reported the results of our work to the Hawks," Taylor wrote. "In summary, the facts indicated that you repeated comments that were not your own about Mr. Deng from a scouting report during the call, and there was no evidence to indicate that during the call you acted in a manner motivated by negative bias toward Mr. Deng." A settlement to buy Ferry out of the remaining three years of his contract and a formalization of his departure was approved by the Hawks' board of managers Friday, with the Atlanta-based limited partners dissenting. The letter from Taylor was written as a condition of the settlement. Ferry had requested a statement to that effect in September. An overview of Alston & Bird's findings was reported to Atlanta's ownership Sept. 10, although the firm didn't produce a written report. Ferry remained on an indefinite leave of absence following Taylor's findings.
  15. You do realize that that also means his trade value is higher and Dennis will replace him sooner than later. Ideally, we'd keep Teague one more year before dealing him, but most teams don't want a guy entering the final year of his contract. I say trade Teague now. I wouldn't count out Dennis being ready next season. He might not replace Teague's production, but I think he could probably be the starting PG on a good team. Keep Mack as the backup.
  16. Of course we keep the pick. If anything, we trade up. This is the last time in a long while we will be drafting in the top 20. Gotta try to get one more young stud via draft. Imo, the draft starts to fall off steeply right at about 16 or 17. We can get a very useful player at 15.
  17. You guys just have to remember we are gonna have to sign Horford next offseason. He's more valuable than 'Sap. Millsap is NOT a max player. And, I don't think we should sign him if he truly demands that.
  18. And willing to accept a role where he plays at most 25 minutes per game.
  19. Bud gets the final say. He'll have to sign off on every decision. Pretty sure of that.
  20. If DeMarre wants more than $9M then let him go. Look at Wes Matthews. We got here by not overpaying and playing system ball. We overachieved due to great coaching and a great system but this is what we've been so frugal for...offseasons like this! Don't screw it up now and miss out on a chance for true stars be it this summer or next
  21. Monta Ellis is a terrible shooter and inefficient player. The Hawks would NEVER sign him. Who comes up with this crap? Three pages and counting? Can we start petitioning threads to get deleted for not being based in reality. Like I nominate and need like 10 likes or something. What a waste of discussion.
  22. With all these crap rumours that Ferry is gone....priority has become: 1) Extend Bud and find a GM he is enthusiastic to work with. Then.... I think DeMarre and Paul are likely walking. Neither of those guys is worth overpaying. The only guy we go to the mats for is Horford when his contract is up, and he will hopefully not ask for the max because he has already been paid, is a decent guy, and likely wants to win. As long as we give him $16M or so, I think he'd be fine with that. We go into the next season with $40,225,000 allocated out of a cap of $67.1M. Ie. We have $26+M to spend. Remember the cap goes up to $89 next offseason, then there's another hike after that if I'm not mistaken. Definitely coming back in 2015-16 (in order of pay): Horford (2016 unrestricted) Teague Korver Sefolosha M. Scott (2016 team option) Shelvin (2016 team option) Bazemore (2016 unrestricted) Dennis Muscala (2016 team option) That's nine guys. What's the max roster number? 14? 15? leaves us with 4-6 spots to fill. I don't think DeMarre is worth more than $7M and I don't think Millsap is worth more than $12M. If they demand more than that, let 'em walk. Here's the approach: We should look at Dekker/Kaminsky/best non-PG available at #15. We should stash at least one of our #2 picks. Bring Tavares over. Sign a veteran Center. Marc Gasol is the best option. Then you gotta look at Greg Monroe, Robin Lopez, Asik, Koufos. That leaves 1-3 more roster spots to fill between DeMarre, Paul, potentially one of our second rounders, and any other free agents. Unrestricted guys out there we could be interested in would include: Wes Matthews, Danny Green, Belinelli, Mike Dunleavy, Gary Neal, John Jenkins. That seems like the list of names to work with if you ask me. How things will shake out, I don't know. I'm honestly not sure we don't need to try to make a play for a big time "superstar" next offseason. Kevin Durant, I'm thinking of you. We'll also be mindful that we are gonna have to give Horf a nice deal. Fortunately, the growing cap helps with that.
  23. ...and we should approach this offseason knowing that we will need to give Horford whatever it takes next offseason. I think as someone who will have earned upwards of $50M from us, it wouldn't be unreasonable for us to hope he'd take $16M per for the good of the org. Or course with the increase in the cap, things could get skewed and that "reasonable" number could be more like $18-$19M, I donno. But yes, he is our franchise player. Along with Dennis, Horford is our most valuable asset.
