I am a fan of the team more than any player. That includes situations where a player I absolutely love is moved. I love Trae.

That being said if the right deal was there I would move him. I do think DJM will be the one gone this summer for a front court player.

One thing I would like to see is DJM and Kobe starting together so we can see how that would potentially work. DJM guarding his natural position and Kobe being the POA defender in theory should work.

I’m all aboard on the keep Trae and trade DJM train, but I also fully agree with this. Trae, to me, is worlds better than DJM. But there is an argument that what makes our team better?

DJM + what we could get for Trae or Trae + what we could get for DJM. What makes the Hawks better? I firmly believe it is Trae plus what we get in a DJM trade, but it’s foolish for the organization not to consider both options.

Is there a world they coexist with better help from the front court? A lot of options with no really great answers (as of now).

  2. Personally, part of the plan should be to get Kobe and AJ some type of playing time. I think we really need to see what we have going into the offseason at our guard position if we are trading DJM. I’d like to see OO remain starting out of curiosity how he plays in that role. Most teams are probably looking at CC as a bench player, I’d like to see how he could have an impact there and wouldn’t mind him closing out games if needed.

Hopefully Hunter can stay healthy and Bey can go back to the bench. Not a knock on him, but a bench with Bogi/Bey/CC sounds worlds better than what we have seen most of the year. Hunter’s health has and will be a concern for us not just for his size and scoring, but we are so thin at that position.

I mentioned in another thread we are pretty much guaranteed a top 10 seed (no celebrating here by any means). We have been playing better lately, hopefully it is a sign of things to come and not just a lucky stretch. Keep improving and end the season with a clearer idea of who should and should not be here next year.

  3. I mean we do see him working out with a lot of the top players in the offseason. I don’t think the league is out to get him by any means. It has been discussed here already, but some of it is who wants to play with Trae AND in Atlanta too. We’ve had this problem for years regarding players wanting to play in Atlanta. Trae has really started to mature as a player, I’m sure his time will come.

True, but didn't he live close by?  Memphis, I thought?

Good memory, I thought he was further north. They have the Grizzlies though and he hasn’t played there either lol. Seems like most of Paul Hewitt one and dones haven’t really done much for GT or Atlanta in general.

Pickup Thaddeus Young.   He is going to be released.

He’s been mentioned so many times over the years on here, I’m surprised we haven’t spoken him being an Hawk into existence.

GT bias too @Phunkabilly, but he was there for such a short time lol. Probably just a short memory in his life considering he wasn’t from Atlanta.

Help me with the search.  I searched for an account and Dejounte doesn't have one on twitter...Not a verified twitter account.   I figured that @JeffS17 may know his way to the deep dark web or something.  Or maybe I'm in the information super dirt road...   At either rate, it's not easy.. so if you can just send me a search link or something... since it's easy, I would be appreciative.

@Dieselgo to the second page of forum topics and there is a topic along the lines of “somebody tell me about this mysterious tweet” or something. The message is in there.

    What's going right

    1. Trae/Murray are actually starting to play off each other a lot better of late.

    2. JJ is a top 75 player on the cusp of top 50.

    3. Hunter proved to the haters that his value is a lot more than their eyes can see as we spun backwards badly without him.

    4. Quin has a positive vibe with our stars and showed he can fix issues when things get murky.

    5. Bogi is damn good offensively.

    Wrong

    1. Capela has clearly regressed and since he's our biggest impact player, we significantly regressed.

    2. OO doesn't fit Quin scheme like he did with Nate. Our centers have dropped in impact and we significantly dropped for that reason.

    3. JC stunk impact wise last year but was still a good player and should have been a backup but losing him for nothing did serious damage to our rep and depth.

    4. Our perimeter defense outside of Trae has substantially gotten worse. Bogi is still really bad and Murray is clearly best as a PG on D and it's not even close.

    5. Quin tries to fit square pegs in round holes. While Nate was rigid, he just played to everyone's best strength. But that harmed Trae impact which is a no no for Tony. Quin fixed that but still hasn't really successfully put this team together. Changes need to he made but smartly.

    What would you do Supes

Trade Murray and OO for KAT

Keep Clint If no one wants to give us a good deal. He still is solid, just not the impact player he was till this year.

Get a backup PG in the draft who could be really good like Hali. Reed Sheppard please.

Trade SAC 1st for decent SG who can fit next to Trae. Someone that can shoot, have good BBIQ, doesn't need the ball much, and can defend like his life depends on it.

I would look to trade AJ for a 1st if things continue to not work but i don't know what's going on there so I tend to leave AJ alone.

Good post and I agree with pretty much all of this. I’d still like to focus on the front court in the draft, but that’ll kind of depend on where we pick.

Regarding the wrong, I’ve felt like we have been missing JC a lot this year. Especially considering we didn’t get anything back. Sure, it let JJ grow..but our depth has suffered because JJ has been out of the lineup with injuries.

I think you hit all of the good spots, which is why many of us want to keep DJM until the offseason. I’d like to see if we can make a decent run and play good basketball with what we currently have.

If you ignore Hunter’s draft position, he’s a good player. We all want more from him, but it’s pretty obvious we aren’t good when he isn’t starting and forcing Bey to start. Again, limits our depth and the impact our bench can make.

With a healthy roster... who knows what we will be?

Well we haven’t really had one and are still sitting at 10. I don’t see any of the teams behind us catching up, especially if Brooklyn goes into tank mode. Not saying we can’t get higher, just that we are probably in the 7-10 range regardless.

  9. If the Nets are indeed moving players, that kind of cements us as a top 10 seed. Nothing exciting about that, but it puts us in the play-in tournament where we are 3-0. Kind of pointless to tank unless there is a “win next year” move on the table.

I’m not sure what you mean by Trae problem.  Not much has changed with Trae other than him being more active on defense.  Are you seeing something else he is doing differently or do you mean that Dejounte might have developed a resentment towards Trae being the primary point or something else?

DJM having some resentment towards Trae, or the favoritism for him. The message is weird - “Things we do in practice aren’t happening during the games.” We only have two players who mainly have a chance to run the offense and the game.

I can confirm that's a real DM from DJM. I believe he and Klutch are now starting the "Vince Carter" plan to force the Hawks to trade him.

Sounds like a Trae problem, especially if he’s asking to talk to the players and see if anyone is happy. Snyder wasn’t our coach for most of last year, so it doesn’t seem like it is all at him.

For the record, I’m not pointing fingers at Trae for all of this. I know you have mentioned there is a reason that he signed his extension, but as @AHF recently mentioned, this whole thing just doesn’t make sense.

  12. The way the roster is constructed, we are not a good team without Hunter. Bey needs to be coming off the bench, and our lack of depth makes him starting even worse. Dre can be an infuriating player, but I know he’s not going to go 0-12 (0-6) for us. I’d gladly take Dre’s 15 points per game, defense, and 40% three point shooting.

Dallas is starting Derrick Jones Jr. a journeyman and, when he was healthy, giving rotational minutes to Dante Exum, who washed out of the NBA for a couple of years.  Both are basically minimum salary guys like the Matthews.

Matthews was added for leadership, not so much for his on the court performance. Maybe Dallas was wiser with their money, maybe we are just cheap, but the expectations of said players are very different.
