  1. This is the reason why you go ahead and keep your players happy. Now the Hawks have farther demonstrated that their owners don't know what they are doing. We are like repellent to good free agents. Exactly!!!!!!! See Washington Wizards........ Arenas even took a pay cut.
  2. Quote: Quote: I don't know what you expect Mayor Franklin or Governor Perdue about it. You sound like one of those people who wants government to step in and fix all your problems. I vote no to that, sir. I guess you make a valid point, got any other way I can help fix the organization? Complaining on hawksquawk and not buying tickets doesn't seem to do anything. I know what you can do. Go to Phillips Saturday and perhaps you can complain to someone face to face. Hell that's what we all should do ( I know short notice).
  3. IF they have the money, I say sign Smith first. Then go after Kwame and JR smith. Hell get rid of Speedy and sign Lou Williams. Furthermore, they could sign L. Jackson and Mr. Hunter from the summer league team. Let Bibby play this year out then his contract comes off the books or use it in a SnT. If we’re pinching pennies I’ll take Lou Williams over Bibby any day.
  4. Slow down he needs to pump his breaks. Bottom line we need new ownership. If you do not have the income to put a championship product on the floor, then you're in the wrong business. All of the good to great teams spend money generously. If your ownership is cheap there's no way you can compete in this league. If you want championships you have to spend championship money.
  5. Atlanta fans are ignorant b/c they have ignorant writers like Bradley and 2 radio stations feeding bad info b/c the writers and DJ's don't know the slightest thing about the NBA's salary cap. Just because people disagree, it doesn't mean they are ignorant. Anyone can do general research on the internet. Perhaps a lazy person depends on the local media outlets for their news, and then they let the media shape their views and opinions. The average "fan" thinks these guys are "experts" or at least think the know what they're talking about. So they build their ideas of reality on bad informantion given out by the local press. So sad ! I agree with that part of the statement. It’s ok to use spell check.
  6. Quote: Quote: The only place people expect an employee to sacrifice for the greater good of the organization is in professional sports, which is a complete oxymoron. That’s what makes it “professional sports.” You see this claim all the time but its absolutely false. Most professionals in the workplace will make the choice at some time to work for a better company or in a better area for less money. 95% of the league has better ownership than the Hawks, so right now any place other than Atlanta would be a better company to work for. No one is asking Chill to sacrifice for the sake of the Hawks. But to say only athletes are expected to take less than their perceived value is actually the opposite of the truth. If you read down further he gives his explanation for the quote. Sekou states, "Anyone faced with the opportunity to earn twice as much money on the job, I don’t care if it’s busting rocks or shooting hoops, is obligated to consider the proposition. That’s human economics 101 right there." Who in their right mind wouldn't entertain a new position, which offers a significant financial upgrade? Times are hard, before one would stay with a company for 20 years. Nowadays job seekers are switching companies every three to four years. Financial gains are the main reason for this current trend.
  7. Quote: If Bradley considers Smith to be our 3rd best player, than I really don't give a damn what he says. Trust me I'm not a Bradley fan at all; I think Smith is our second best player.
  8. ajc.com Losing Childress an astonishing mistake by Hawks By Mark Bradley | Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 07:47 PM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution This summer was the test. The Hawks flunked. Are we surprised? They couldn’t persuade the lesser of their two prized free agents to stay. They got outspent and outhustled by a team from Greece. Think about that. An NBA-caliber player in the flower of his youth has chosen to play somewhere other than the NBA. It’s unprecedented, yes, but it’s also fitting. After this ham-handed non-negotiation, the Hawks should forfeit all claim to being big-league. They allowed something to happen that simply cannot happen. Josh Childress isn’t a star — Rick Sund, the Hawks general manager, characterized him Wednesday as “a utility player” — but he’s precisely the sort of multi-tasker found on great teams. He’s a quick and clever sub who changes games. Having nurtured him for four seasons, the Hawks should have had some sense of his value. Alas, they wound up being penny-wise and pound-foolish. They dared Childress to leave. He took the dare. This was Childress, speaking via conference call from Athens: “I wanted to get it done early … I was disappointed by the initial Hawks offer. They said, ‘Go out and find another offer’ … There was no urgency, no desire to get anything done.” How could that be? The Hawks had no picks in the June draft. Sund and co-owner Michael Gearon Jr. had claimed the entire offseason focus was on keeping Messrs. Childress and Smith, but this disconcerted effort drove one Josh across the Atlantic. Working a sign-and-trade wouldn’t have been the preferred course — Childress needed to stay here, period — but at least it would have yielded a return in personnel. This way the Hawks get nothing, and to twist the knife they must take a hit against their salary cap if they choose to retain his NBA rights. (Lon Babby, who represents Childress, was only happy to share that nugget with his media audience.) This astonishing whiff comes not three months after the Hawks took the Celtics to Game 7 and this woebegone franchise began to buy back the good will lost over a decade of incompetence and indifference. This summer was going to be the time to consolidate precious gains, to prove to a suddenly rapt audience that happy days were here again. Instead we see that, in the serious-about-basketball department, the Hawks weren’t even a match for Greeks bearing gifts. “After the Boston series, we thought things would get done,” said Childress, speaking of himself and Smith. “But I don’t think there was any commitment shown … We had a good run, we’d done everything we were expected to do, and we were put on hold.” Sund noted that the Hawks offered Childress “more than market value,” but there comes a time when an organization that would win big has to spend what it takes to win big, even if it’s above market value. Sund wasn’t willing to do budge upward, not even after Olympiakos raised the stakes. Said Sund: “Going above the luxury tax with a team under .500 is probably premature.” That’s the kind of small-minded thinking that has, over time, reduced the Hawks to irrelevance. After the pain and suffering of making all those lottery picks and watching them flail, the organization had cause to think this group might well win if kept intact. And now the Hawks’ fourth-best player is gone, and the third-best could follow. For a few dizzying spring days, we dared to believe the Hawks were no longer the Hawks, that they were something better and brighter. Fooled us again. I'm not a Bradley fan, but he was on point like a sniper. This is for my ASG lovers!!!!!!
  9. If BK sucked, people wouldn't be upset about Chillz bolting to Greece. How can you judge BK when he never got a chance to deal with a competent ownership group? Hell Sund was the only person who would take this gig. Who wants to deal with an ownership like this? This group is the laughing stock of the NBA. Atlanta is one of the favorite destinations for NBA players, yet the sorry ownership group cannot attract free agents. So we have to over pay quality players, or settle with mediocre players. This group refuses to put a quality legit product on the court; however, they want you to come out Saturday to purchase season tickets. Hell to the Naw !!!!!!!
  10. hawks.com HAWKS GM SUND STATEMENT REGARDING JOSH CHILDRESS SIGNING ATLANTA, GA (July 23, 2008) -- “We were informed this morning by Josh Childress’ representatives that he has signed with Olympiakos in Greece, and we want to wish him the absolute best with his future career in FIBA. “We have a great deal of respect for Josh and appreciate his contributions to our franchise. We were very comfortable when we began this process that if Josh were to play in the NBA, he would remain with the Hawks. This is a unique situation with Greece, and to my knowledge it is believed to be the highest contract ever awarded in Euroleague history. “We feel we presented a very fair and competitive offer to keep him in Atlanta, and we will now move forward with the options we have to improve our roster.” – Hawks GM Rick Sund. And you thought BK was bad. Give me a break the problem was never BK. ASG was, and still is the problem. BK walks away and Chillz jets to Greece. Whatz next in Hawksville?
  11. he nailed that article!!!! While the ASG and Belkin are Every other team in the league is getting better. Damn they make it hard to support the home team.
  12. Basically the Greece team made him an offer, which consists of 3 years for 20 million. The Hawks cannot match the deal, because Greece is not an NBA team. So it’s really up to Chillz. If Josh takes the deal, the hawks still own his rights for two years. Chillz would fall under the David Anderson category. We drafted Anderson several years ago, but he plays overseas. We own his rights, if and when he decides to play in the NBA. Without getting into the detailed specifics, I've provided the basic gist of his situation. I hope it makes since.
  13. Hmmm it seems to me that perhaps the ASG is the blame for the majority of the mishaps. Who knows how much control BK had during any draft. People blame BK for lack of communication. The ASG should be happy BK never talked to the press; he could have easily put all of there buisness on blast, or in other words, he could have really exposed the ASG.
  14. Richardson is on fire 15 pt first half
  15. I was at the game last night, with my wife and son. I have to say that was the most exciting NBA game I’ve ever experience. To my people in section 120, “We made history last night Baby”. I told the news reporter prior to the game, "Hawks in 7".
  16. I'll be there, with the family in section 120.....In my old school red, black, and yellow.
  17. If your going to quote someone, you should utilize the whole quote. Not just the part that proves your point. Even though what you quoted does not prove sh*t. Anyone can put random one liners on here. I beleive that seems to be a pattern of yours. One should get their facts straight. If you want to know about Obama read his book. Go to his website and see where he stands on issues. Don't quote a 5 second sound byte, and then call someone racist. Stop being lazy and read his entire speech. Then you can stop this half azz reporting. Furthermore, lets keep this blog strictly basketball, at least until the season ends.
  18. Quote: His numbers were improved through January, and his defense is markedly better. It's obvious to any unbiased fan that his wrist injury was affecting his shooting. I'm not going to throw him under the bus because of one bad month when he's clearly less than 100% and still playing hard on D. Man, don't you know, around here they throw everyone under the bus. It doesn't matter if they're hurt or not. JJ has been hurt, and the bus trampled him. They threw Bibby under the bus after one bad game. Chillz gets thrown under the bust through out the season. It just doesn’t' stop. These fans are like Georgia's weather, one should always keep a coat, because they change daily.
  19. Quote: Guys...we are blowing this out of proportion. Lets see what happens when the dust settles.Ownership "reportedly" declined a mid-season coaching change accordig to " undiclosed sources." ? It could have been BK, his agent,a disgruntled owner, or Harry the Hawk. Big deal ! This probably happens 10 times every season with 10 different teams in every sport......it just doesn't get put on the internet and then yanked befor the print edition cpmes out. I with you Coach, we seem to jump to conclusions to fast around here.
  20. Quote: I heard Sekou Smith was going to be interviewed by 680 AM around 7:15 last night. Did the interview happen ? Did anyone catch it ? Yes the interview happened. I caught the last five minutes of the interview. Kincaid and his cohorts threw BK under the bust. They called BK a backstabber. Instead of going at the ASG, Kincaid went after BK. Sekou defended his article. Sekou stated Woody should be held accountable along with BK, and the ownership group. Sekou stated there were rumblings suggesting Woody has had his chance to shine, and he can't get the job done. Sekou stated, he understands that assessment about Woody.
  21. Quote: We should be trying to get Magloire Wishful thoughts, but BK moves to slow.
  22. Quote: Hey, you can't knock him completely. He has the ability to make the guy guarding him look bad, but it also makes him look bad in the process. He is always exciting to watch, and he has the ability to score inside a lot of the time, regardless of how ugly it is. What ever your smoking please pass it to me. ZaZa is a nightmare to watch; He is flat out horrible. I cringe every time I see him enter the game. We have to get another big.
  23. WOW!! He actually wrote a decent article.
