From your opinions regarding player personnel, it is pretty easy to take anything you say with a grain of salt... At any rate, in a blowout game like that, Solo, Acie, and even Mario should have jumped into the game. But then again, they can't check themselves into the game... If we make the playoffs, it's only going to get worse. He will play his bench even less, and guys like Pachulia will get even more minutes when he does have to call on said bench. They got it down to 10 points with 2 minutes or so left. That is the time to suck in deep down and finish. We had two forced shots (I think JSmith) and a turnover then allowed an open three. 10 down to 17 down in 25 minutes. So as blowout as it was, we were in position to take the game. From what I understand, we werent in "position" to take ANYTHING until late in the 3rd early in the 4th. That does NOT absolve Woodson of not playing some of those guys like Acie and Solo more. Period. From what you understand? Did you watch the game? It is not the time for development. Acie has been a major disappointment and has not shown a difference. Solomon is still a major project. The guys that made the run (Bibby exception) were the guys that dug the hole. It is fitting that they were allowed to shoulder the burden of getting us back into the game. I suggest you watch the game as so your comments will be valid. P.S. JJ was a Man in that 4th quarter. No I didnt watch it, but I was able to hear some of it. Development you say? Now is not the time you assert? Problem is, Solo, and many others that I have talked about time and time again have not been developed. So, now that we need these guys, they aren't ready. Imagine that.
  2. I said this days ago. The Celtics have a chance to step on the Hawks' collective throat and dash any possible hopes or dreams of the Hawks beating them in the playoffs. And believe me, they will do everything within their power to do just that. Unlike us against the Pacers, the Celtics want it bad and will take it to us.
  3. Quote: Not that I'm trying to excuse Woody, but I think his thought is that he has to have his best players available to close out the games. Being defensive minded, he also figures players in foul trouble won't play hard on the defensive end. He'll sometimes leave a bench player in or a non-essential player in, or maybe even a vet, but he never lets Al, Smoove, or Marvin play until the 3rd qtr if they get 2 fouls in the first half. I would agree with that IF every other coach (or at least most of them) did the same thing Woody does regarding this. However, this is just not the case.
  4. Quote: Zaza once avg 11/6. I don't think that Solo has scored 11 and pulled 6 rebounds in 2 years. Um, you do know Solo doesnt get a fraction of the minutes Zaza does right? Oh wait, that would be common sense. Judging from some of these posts, common sense need not apply...
  5. *Sigh* I see things for what they are northcyde...period--whether it's the Hawks, people, life, whatever. I praise them when they play decidedly well, and call them out when they play decidedly bad. I dont understand why you have taken such issue with my post, nor do I care to know. I just saw all that rhetoric you felt the need to reply with and chalked it up as nothing but wordiness and a waste of my time to read. I, much like everyone, want the Hawks to make the playoffs. It's just games like this that illuminate some of the major problems this team has to solve before becoming legit. If you can't see that, then you indeed might want to tone down the tint.

  7. Quote: Quote: If you are trying to insinuate that any of those players other than Joe are better shooters than Salim than it is obvious that you don't go to games but merely look at boxscores. What if I went to every single game and saw 35% of his shots actually go in. Whats the difference ? this is not a detailed insite that needs "inside" analysis like "efficiency stats or (+/-) stats. Do the misses look any better if your actually there then they do on TV ? Maybe so, high def is pretty sweet but a miss is still a miss. Any way, I've been to about 12 games this year. I root for Salim but see him as more of a scorer who needs alot of shots more so then a "pure shooter" who can be effective with fewer shot attempts while shooting a high %. I wish Salim could be more consistent with his 3 point shooting like the little PG from the Cavs who blew up inthe playoffs last year and then won the MVP of the Rookie / Soph game this year. Daniel "Boobie" Gibson
  8. See my sig for details... Thinking about Woodson and his player personnel decisions makes my head hurt.

  10. Quote: It's not do or die at this point. Do or die is if Indy is actually in front of us. That's why I'm not panicking yet. A win last night would've made things easier, but it's still a doable situation. Just pick up a couple of wins (which can be done with the Knicks and Heat left on the schedule), wait for the inevitable Indy loss, and we're in. Last night was bad, but it's not over. Not by a long shot. I just hope the Hawks got their terrible basketball out of their system, and Woody will actually motivate his players and let him know that even though it isn't a do or die situation...THEY SHOULD STILL COME OUT AND LOCK THINGS DOWN! I never said it was a do or die situation. I was just replying to the mindset that Woodson [apparently] facilitated for his team. It was a crucial game nonetheless. With as schizophrenic as this team is, winning last night would have all but solidified our spot. Oh well. Surely we can beat the Knicks and Heat right?
  11. Why didnt I see something like this coming from you? I dont think anyone is really "overreacting" and "need to calm down" as you put it. It's just that many of us have seen the Hawks for who they really are. A lot of us dont always look with these rose-tinted glasses and think "Everything will be OK. We are still in it and have a chance in the playoffs." The real issue is how these guys just, in effect, laid down for the Pacers last night. I have said it before, and apparently need to say it again, a real playoff caliber team would have gone into their house and stopped on their throats while Indiana desperately clung to playoff hopes. However, in a total debacle, from coaching to the play on the floor, rolled over and laid an egg like some sick puppy. Yeah, the odds of the Hawks screwing this up and not making the playoffs are indeed slim. However, with our team as currently constructed, we won't do much when we make it anyway. To think otherwise is just delusion.
  12. He doesnt need 20 MPG. Maybe more like 10-15. Salim is NOT a PG. Acie is. Acie needs to get some damn PT. It's pathetic that he didnt see the floor AT ALL in that blowout last night. How is that developing a player that is "PG of the future?" Thing is both Salim AND Acie need consistent minutes a game. Period.
  13. Winners don't come out flat (or with less than the utmost intensity) so that they wont be so down if they lose such a crucial game. They come out ready to stomp you in the ground. If they just so happen to lose, they take it on the chin, buck up, and live to fight another day. If Woodson did in fact prepare his team for that game as "just another game," and it sounds like he did, then it shows every reason and then some why Woodson needs to go. I didnt have to watch the game to know these cats just didnt play like they wanted it. Period.
  14. Hm, I wouldnt. Salim is a very undersized SG. Acie is a PG. We need to keep Acie and develop him!

    WTF Woody

jhay, someone will come in and defend those decisions. I will wait for them to clown themselves. There are no excuses whatsoever for Woodson to have made those decisions. Period. Again, this is the same coach that some guys want back even if we make the playoffs. *Sigh*
  16. Quote: Anybody see the camera shot of the ASGers in the audience tonight? Who was the guy wearing the "glasses/funny nose" disguise? P.S. - Congrats to Bernie Mullins - Jayhawks #1. LOL, I havent been able to watch the games ever since Channelsurfing went all gay on us by not streaming the visuals of the game. But yeah, what a pathetic showing. Any glimmer of hope I had for them to steal a game or two in the playoffs pretty much went out the window. If you can't step on a lousy team's throat trying to make the playoffs, then how on Earth will you show up when vastly superior teams (with much better coaches) come destined to grab your throat, slit it, and then dump your body in the ocean? Yeah...not happening.
  17. Does it REALLY matter when Salim (and apparently Acie now) won't see the floor unless it's an absolute blowout or injury? Just saying...
  18. Quote: Quote: Quote: Woody should be fired. Zaza is a waste of a roster spot. Bibby should have stayed at the hotel. Pitiful showing. I'm not trying to sound like "the sky is falling", but there is no guarentee we make the playoffs. Not with Orlando and Boston on our schedule. And who's to say the Knicks won't try to play spoiler? After this, Who give a flip about this team in the playoffs? This team has no heart or pride! Continue to do some the most amazingly dumbest crap I've ever seen on a basketball court! My Fandom was just taking down several notches! I'll watch them in the playoffs but with much less enthusiasm! I have to admit that this game diminishes my interest in the playoff race quite a bit. They showed they aren't a playoff team tonight. On the bright side BK and Woody are one step closer to being fired. Ex, as you know, the Hawks still have a very good chance of making the playoffs. If they do, I doubt both of those losers are kicked out the door. If we make the playoffs, Woody probably stays. How sad that would be.
  19. Quote: Quote: Could someone explain this one to me? Why is Woody increasing Zaza's minutes and decreasing Al's? I don't get it. What is the point? Woody must have realized there were some people who weren't completely convinced about his coaching incompetence. Haha, classic! But wait! Someone will defend the decision to the death...How pathetic. Not only that, but we are getting blown the eff out for the vast majority of the game and Acie Law doesnt even sniff playing time. At this rate, we won't have a PG ready to go when we let Bibby go after next year. But wait, someone will come in and say Acie shouldnt have seen the floor... Solomon Jones as well. Good grief, Woodson makes my head hurt. Please cut this clown loose.
  20. Before I opened this topic, I knew it would be between these two cats. Dolfan and coachx summarized my very same sentiments quite well. Smoove is quite a talent. With the right coach, I believe Smoove could be a 20/10/3/3 guy, or very close to it (he already is). He will continue to develop his post game and will hopefully start shooting those jumpers (not the 3 point ones) at a better clip. If he ever put 100% toward the defensive end consistently, I agree, he could be defensive player of the year one day soon. He just needs to work on his man/straight up defense. As for Marvin, he has improved, too and is also the youngest cat of the core. However, I have seen nothing from Marvin to make me think he has a higher ceiling. Can he become a 20 PPG guy? I think so. Unfortunately, he disappears way too much in games. He will start out with 12 or 14 in the first half only to end up with 16 or maybe 18 points in the end. He is not aggressive at all, and if he cant hit his jumper, he doesn't make much else of an impact elsewhere. I'd take Smoove all day every day. Watch him explode when we get a real coach in here.
  21. Quote: My Worries: 1) The Woodson will be back 2) That Bibby will get hurt 3) That Joe will collapse 4) That Smoove will keep making that occasional 3... 5) That we will never be rid of Zaza 6) That Marvin will lose his jump rope 7) That Salim will continue to be called "The Sniper" 8) That Diesel will keep proposing trades thru next season Let's see. I will reference yours. 1. Watch Out! Most will call you NOT a fan... 2. I hope Bibby stays healthy too. We haven't exactly groomed our supposed PG of the future... 3. It's possible. He has already claimed he was fatigued a couple nights ago. He already plays 89 mins a game. 4. You mean "taking" the occasional 3. 5. You and me both brother. Hopefully we will get a solid defensive backup Center in FA. 6. Haha 7. What a horrible nickname. He actually has to come off the bench for him to snipe at something. 8. Ug, I get tired of em too... I will add some: 9. We won't play consistent defense 10. Acie will cntinue to be ignored 11. Questionable substitution patterns 12. Inability of bench to hold leads 13. Bibby and Joe playing too many minutes
  22. Quote: It's pretty damn clear where you are as a fan when you can't decide whether you should focus on praying that the coach gets fired or focus on the team (who has been out of the playoffs for a decade) to make the playoffs. It doesn't surprise me that you think that is being a "fan" of the Hawks though. *Sigh* Dolfan, I am starting to think you have no idea what is even coming out of your mouth (or fingers in this case) these days. There is no question in my mind that I support and love the Hawks--I just want what is best for them. I merely took issue with your calling people out for not being fans just because he wants the coach gone. It does not mean he doesnt support the team...he just has a different view of what is best for the Hawks. No less of a fan in my book. If you still can't see that, then you really are in sad shape. It's time out for immaturity and time to focus on what the Hawks can do to get 1)into the playoffs and 2)get better. We ALL have different ideas of how to accomplish the latter.
  23. Quote: Quote: I hate that all I can do is pray for Woody to get fired when I should be excited for playoff basketball That says it all about where you are at as a fan of the Hawks. That is the stupidest thing I hear all the time when someone says something of that ilk. Being a FAN of the team is supporting and wanting the BEST for the team. Just because someone wants Woodson fired, and just so happens to disagree with you, does NOT mean he is any less of a fan than the rest of us. My god, some people need to grow up with this "you're not a fan" stuff.
  24. Quote: the problem is Salim IS NOT a PG. He is a 6' tall shooting guard. For the sake of the the team's future we NEED to develop Acie into a good backup for Bibby. Acie is our PG of the future and needs to be groomed accordingly. Playing Salim at this point is OK for the shot term but not for the long term. THANK YOU! Someone gets it. If Woodson continues to ignore Acie, when Bibby is shipped off at the end of the season next year, we will be right back where we started pre-Bibby--a team without a decent PG. We need to be developing Acie so he will be ready in the long term. I like getting Salim minutes, but he and Acie should have been rotated in and out together with consistent minutes throughout the season instead of relying on JJ (and now Bibby) to play 40+ mins every night.
