  1. I haven't heard anything, but it won't be much of a battle between him and Pero. Gustavo is a starter, and Pero's ceiling is Matt Bonner.
  2. We will win about as many games this season as we did last season (I see a five-six finish for us in the conference). However, because of our year of playing in the Spurs system, when it comes playoff time, I could definitely see us making the ECF. We have our own version of the Spurs: Jeff Teague -> Tony Parker Kyle Korver -> Danny Green Paul Millsap -> Kawhi Leonard Al Horford -> Tim Duncan Gustavo Ayón -> Tiago Splitter Lou Williams -> Manu Ginobili Does this not resemble the Spurs to anyone else? The only reason we wouldn't be second in the East in the regular season is due to Lou and Gustavo being injured to start the year and our inexperience playing in San Antonio's system. An ECF appearance this season AND A FINALS APPERANCE next season is what I see in store for this squad. Trust in DF!!!
  3. First off, his Instagram name has "J-Flight" in it, so that's where I got that. I'm not the only one who has used it to refer to him, either. Secondly, I could see Jared definitely being part of our rotation. Thirdly, as long as Kyle and Lou are here, John will not be starting. And lastly, the Hawks will not be mediocre the next couple of years. I could see us in the Finals not this year, but next year, with a year of experience under our belts.
  4. We will still be the second best team in the division with this trade in the regular season. In terms of the conference, the Wizards will now be vying for a seven or eight spot with Cleveland and Detroit ,but no higher. We will either finish fifth or sixth in the regular season in the conference. Once we get to the playoffs, however, our players will have enough experience in the Spurs system that I think we can make it to the ECF (but realistically no one is beating the Nets this year). I see us replicating the Spurs like this: Jeff Teague->Tony Parker Kyle Korver->Danny Green Paul Millsap->Kawhi Leonard Al Horford->Tim Duncan Gustavo Ayón->Tiago Splitter Lou Williams->Manu Ginobili I see where DF is going with this!
  5. John Jenkins is going to be a bust. I think most of y'all already realized that Mike is better than him, but know it looks like we have another SG from last year's draft who is a better player. Jenkins is an inconsistent sharpshooter. He doesn't have the skills to do anything else but shoot in the L, and he's undersized for a two-guard. While J-Flight is also undersized, he can get to the rim, shoots a high percentage at the charity stripe, is a good three-point shooter, and oh yeah, averaged 9.6 points per game in just under 20 minutes of MPG this preseason. They have both been injury-prone up to this point in their young careers, but when healthy, I think J-Flight will end up being the much better option.
  6. We have a center! You're forgetting that Gustavo was the MVP of the FIBA Americas tournament, leading Mexico to the gold medal, and he was the leading scorer in our open scrimmage right before he got hurt. When he gets back from injury, he should be our starting C!
  7. Glad to see ESPN complementing the Hawks for a second-straight season!
  8. Bad decision. Since we re-signed Jeff instead of Devin, we are going to need a veteran PG to mentor Dennis. Neither one of them looked particularly good in preseason, but other than being a vet, here's also what Royal had going for him: - He threw a great alley-oop pass to J-Flight in the open scrimmage - Shelvin also looked bad in Summer League - He has remained in this league as a third-stringer for so long, something I doubt Shelvin will manage
  9. Thanks for doing this! Just joined (Atlanta Soar Squad)!
  10. I think Millsap is a better player overall than Smith, and I think our offense will be more defined now. I don't think we will run as much without Devin and Josh, but I think we will play a lot of inside-out basketball, trying to get something inside with Paul or Al, and kicking it out to Korver and Jenkins when the defense collapses. I also see Lou Williams being our go-to scorer down the stretch when he comes back, which was what we really needed in the playoffs last season.
  11. Not sure exactly what this will mean for his future, but Ivan Johnson has apparently left his agent. I didn't think it was particularly likely he would resign in ATL anyway, given that we drafted a power forward, are looking to move Al to PF full-time, and still have Mike Scott under contract, but I thought this was interesting at the very least. Best hidden gem Rick Sund may have ever found.
  12. Don't know if that means anything, but I would be happy to have Iggy here. He would help attract another FA next season, and I think we could use his perimeter defense, since Stevenson certainly isn't returning and I doubt Dahntay Jones is. He is also very versatile, which would make up for what we're losing in Smith, but without the poor shot selection and not showing up sometimes.
  13. He could be extremely useful even if we get Al Jefferson.
  14. We didn't overpay him! He does one thing great and one thing very well: shoot (great) and rebound (very well). And before resigning him, SF was the only position we didn't have anyone at. And missing 10 games a year isn't bad at all.
  15. I agree. I am getting worried, too! Out of the major free agents, I think Dwight is the one we have the most chance of signing, but if we don't sign him, I am very worried for next season. I think Devin, Korver, and Zaza will be back, and I have a feeling all four of our DPs would make the team (unless one of them opted to stay overseas or something), so that would give us 10 guys, but I'm not sure how good that roster would be unless one of our DPs makes a big immediate impact.
  16. My bad -- didn't realize it had become official that they had joined Coach LD's staff. But Coach Ham's hiring isn't old news. Just wanted an overall opinion of the two subtractions and two additions.
  17. The Hawks have hired two new assistants in Coach Quin Snyder and Coach Darvin Ham. It looks like Coach Bender and Coach Van Exel are out, as they have been working out prospects with Coach Drew in Milwaukee. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about Coach Snyder or Coach Ham. Coach Snyder had a great stint as a head coach in the D-League, taking his team to the Finals, and he has coached under legendary CSKA Moscow Coach Messina. As for Coach Ham, he is a former Hawk player, and while neither his pro playing career nor coaching career has lived up to his college playing career, I am always a supporter of bringing back someone who has been part of the organization in the past.
  18. So I posted something last night with my opinion on what the Hawks should do if they missed out on CP3 and Dwight, but then I realized I wanted them to resign a couple guys, so my plan changed, and I hid my post. Forgot my favorite Hawk is a FA lol. Can't not resign him. Here is my new plan:2013:Sign Monta EllisResign Devin, Korver, Za aDraft Dieng, Adams2014:Use the $$$ we have for a second max deal on a FA that yearPG - Devin/LouSG - Monta/JenkinsSF - 2014 FA/KorverPF - Al/ZazaC - Dieng/AdamsNot bad, eh?Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  19. Dwight,We have a great team here in Atlanta. Coach Bud can help you become even better like he helped Tim Duncan become one of the best big men of all-time. We have two scorers here already that will compliment you very well in Lou Williams and Al Horford. Both of them were double-figure scorers last year. Al doesn't demand too many touches, and Lou is a great passer, so you will get a lot of touches despite having two other scorers. We have four draft picks this year, so as they develop, we will keep getting stronger. Also, John Jenkins, Mike Scott, and Shelvin Mack are all under contract this season, making it more youthful than your Orlando team, which got older quickly. We would love to have you back in your hometown, and we will cheer for you a lot. You could attract Chris Paul, and we have the cap space to sign him also, bringing you a great, All-Star, young PG to play with. Please come home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. He can be a second option on a championship team, depending on who the first option is (Joe was not it).As a first option, we saw what Al could do, and that's get us to the playoffs but not much else. But, I don't think that Timmy D would've won a ring without David Robinson and then Tony and Manu. Al does remind me of Duncan, though.
  21. Joe made it in 2010, Al made it in 2011, no Hawk made it last season.Does anyone think any player from this year's roster deserves to make one of the All-NBA teams? Both Al and Josh got snubbed from the All-Star team, so we'll see if the writers are any less biased against Hawks than the NBA coaches.IMO, Al and Josh are so close in terms of on-court production, but because of Al's leadership, I would have him as a third team player over Josh if I had to pick one or the other (and I would only pick one of the two).
  22. He is a Top 5 prospect in the D-League, and since we already have him under contract, I would be happy to give him a Summer League and/or training camp invite. Couldn't hurt...
  23. Thanks so much! I used the form to contact them.
