  1. Come on. We did just fine without Horf for all of last season. Josh, Al, and Teague will be improved. If we get Brooks, that will help us even more. We might not win 50 but getting to the playoffs won't be a problem, especially in the Eastern Conference.
  2. We haven't had the cap space to land major FAs in the past. Most of our major moves were through trades. People are not going to not sign here if we offer them more money than other teams - that is preposterous to even think.
  3. This is a myth. Maybe we haven't had any household names sign here, but the notion that free agents will just not sign here is absurd. If we pay them, they will come.
  4. Kobe and Joe on the Lakers would be redundant. No way the Lake show spends $20 M on a player who is a dirt poor man's version of a player they already have.
  5. Plus, if Smoove and Dwight are on the same team come next year, especially their hometown team, they will re-sign.
  6. The point still stands. If he turns out to be a baller, that is icing on the cake. He could be the next Tyronn Lue, I would take him if it means we get rid of JJ's contract.
  7. Are you kidding? In the East?? And don't forget we would still have Teague and Marvin AND we might get MarShon Brooks!
  8. Josh and Dwight will bring a level excitement to the ATL that hasn't been there since Dominique left. I think the reason that you haven't heard the Hawks in contention for D12 is because we couldn't pull it off with our financial situation. If we trade Joe, all of that changes. I don't know the specifics, but the Nets won't have a whole lot of room to sign Dwight anymore if they get JJ (especially because they just signed Gerald Wallace to a huge deal), so he'd have to consider somewhere else. I think the Hawks could be that spot.
  9. These numbers are basically the same as JJ in his rookie year, if not a little better. Plus he is 23 and Joe is 31. TBH, I would be okay with getting nothing in return if it meant we were rid of Joe's contract. Anything else, particularly a local kid with a little bit of potential, is icing on the cake. It's a no-brainer.
  10. The "no free agents ever come here" thing is overstated, IMO. If we have the cash, free agents will come. If nothing else, we can make our bench a whole lot stronger.
  11. Barring injury, we won't be lottery-bound. Off the bat, a team with Teague, Josh, Marvin, Horf, and a bunch of spare parts will at least be in the playoffs, albeit at the 7 or 8 seed. Guys like MarShon Brooks and Jenkins will contribute more in the future than they will right away. Also, the cap space that we hopefully get in this deal will allow us to make a splash in free agency, which will improve our immediate playoff chances.
  12. Yes you do, and no, it's not an insult. I love what JJ has done here but his contract is holding this team back. Trading him to clear cap space is way more respectful to Joe than using the amnesty clause on him (and better for the Hawks as well).
  13. If we move JJ I doubt we move Smith. The whole reason we wanted to move Smith in the first place is that we wanted to move somebody, and we just didn't think we could move JJ's contract.
  14. I don't think you can give someone away for nothing, but you could give someone away for basically nothing (e.g. a future 2nd round draft pick), as long as pieces are moving in both directions and both teams have enough cap space.
  15. I think Arnett Moultrie will end up being the guy
  16. The chance alone of re-signing Josh is better than getting Martin/14. Even if he walks, we would get a trade exception. I think we will see a better offer than that, though.
  17. That would be prime. Although I'd rather find some way to do that without getting Scola. I would be willing to take a little bit less if we got Lowry (I know you don't like him that much, but I think he'd be a good fit).
  18. I'd rather roll the dice with Josh in free agency than get some weak deal for him. He is the best player we have. I'd rather either keep him or get the trade exception next summer than end up with one or two mid-rounders and an average player.
  19. If the Heat get their regular-season act together (which, considering they just won a championship, I think they will), they will be winning 60+ games a year. No way the Hawks can beat that.
  20. If we don't trade Josh, and he chooses to walk after this year, could we do a sign-and-trade like the Cavs did with LeBron to the Heat?
  21. Can we go over the cap to re-sign Josh? I'm not opposed to dealing him for a combo of two/three of Houston's draft picks and a player, but I don't think we should trade him if we don't have to; he is the heart and soul of the Hawks. If there is a high chance of him just walking away from the team, I think we should look to score some impact players this year in the draft.
