  1. Second most interesting part of the story where us fans are concerned shows up in the last paragraph.... expecting a fall trial date, assuming a plea deal doesn't occur earlier. I've really only been in court very much as a CASA volunteer, so those are family court actions. So maybe I'm missing something, but I don't understand why the judge wouldn't go ahead and set a trial date right then. Can anyone advise?
  2. For the record, that's not my opinion, and for that matter, we don't know that that's Bud's opinion (ie, as far as I'm aware, he's not on record as having said any blanket statements on the topic). But looking at the evidence--ie, what little has been said and what has actually transpired since Bud's arrival--it's a natural conclusion to make regarding HIS opinion. And in the end, it's only his that matters, of course.
  3. I don't think anyone's fooled as-if Wilcox's opinion will not always be subordinate to his boss' opinion. Wilcox is there to manage the details. But too, I agree that Korver's minutes will be reduced (hopefully) but not all that much.
  4. Paul Milsap called. He wants you to define "high ceiling prospect."
  5. Truthfully, I was one of those who essentially said that Horf should be treated as an assistant GM... name your price, but just realize that whatever you take off the table for yourself is going to dictate who you're able to have surrounding you for the next 5 years. By that (presumably) not happening and by Horf not cooperating with the master plan, it cost us the equivalent of ~$10m-ish in NBA talent on the roster at the end of the day. But then, I believe it was Abraham Lincoln who said there's a reason why the game is played on the court instead of on paper.... it all still could work out to be for the best long-term.
  6. J.D.... hmmmmm.... you mean juris doctorate or Jack Daniels? If the latter.... just one?
  7. "Your honor, I was just covering for my little brother." But even if that isn't how it goes down in court, that's plausibly the conversation with the prosecutor in order to get the best possible plea deal. In hindsight, he has nothing to lose and everything to gain by pleading not guilty. To my mind, he mainly needs to ensure that he doesn't have to serve any time so that he can earn a paycheck overseas. But, the sooner he can make a plea deal happen, the better, really, b/c he should really want to be officially back on the NBA market as early in the free agent season as possible in 2018 to maximize whatever contract he can get then.
  8. So, if the season began tomorrow, we'd have to cut Moose and Patterson, and this would be the 15.
  9. Mini-Kreskin here. :) That was my earliest inclination. Let's see what happens.
  10. Intriguing.... so, doesn't the judge then respond with a court date? I'm not sure.
  11. 8:30 am Eastern was the time, but I figure his case is one in a long list on the docket.
  12. You mean like... making a layup? (hehe... sorry.... even he had to laugh, didn't he?) I'll say this.... there's more talent than there than I'd anticipated.
  13. Another interview that impresses.... (forgive if this was already posted and I missed it...) http://www.eurohoops.net/featured/275934/malcolm-delaney-i-want-to-leave-my-mark-in-the-hawks
  14. Unless some other major move goes down, imo, we NEED Prince to be exceptional in every sense of the word. As I recall, last time we were counting this heavily on an early teens pick to assert and distinguish himself so quickly, it was Acie. What we saw yesterday was encouraging, but if the team as it is currently assembled is to excel, Prince needs to perform even better and become one of the breakout stars of this draft class; that, because of what we are starving for at the 3. No pressure.
  15. I'll give this a shot... Where SAC is concerned, PG has to be their focus seemingly, and all the more so with Collison involved in courtroom drama now. Best PG on the market that seemingly could be made available is our old friend Shelvin Mack who suddenly is going to be doing mop-up minutes now that Hill has arrived in SLC and Exum is back on the court. Where UTA is concerned, Snyder certainly would have to smile at the prospect of upgrading his back-up C from Withey to Splitter for the price of his 3rd PG. So here we go... To SAC - Shelvin Mack ($2,433,334) - Lamar Patterson ($874,636) - Rights to 2018 MIN 1st Rd Pick To UTA - Tiago Splitter ($8,500,000) To ATL - Rudy Gay ($13,333,333) Then, to remedy the hole left by Tiago's departure, we use our MLE room to sign Jordan Hill who still remains on the market. (Not sure I do this deal, btw, w/o having an agreement w/ Hill first.) We end up with these 15....
  16. Total minus Scott & Patterson seems most plausible to get down to 15, at least for now and assuming no trades yet to be made and no injury to Moose (other non-guaranteed contract per Hawksfanatic) between now and the end of training camp. Note that we may or may not know more about Mike Scott's status sometime this morning. If he pleads guilty, that would seem to seal his fate for the next 2 seasons. if he pleads not guilty, the court drama will continue to play out over whatever timeline works for the court system. Why would he plead guilty? Theoretically, first, because the taped confession is no small thing, but then, too, there is an argument that says the sooner he starts the clock to reinstatement, the better since he turns 28 this month. And besides, it would seem completely reasonable to suspect he's going to get a handsome offer from some team overseas to play for them in the meantime, assuming no prison time is involved.
  17. Good stab at it, as it turns out (... 1 yr @ $4m).
  18. Just to be fair.... it would have been Al or Sap out, yes, but Jack on a min salary could be obtained regardless of the cap, and having an MLE would have enabled us to sign Hump regardless as well.... plus there's no telling what assets would have been obtained in a Sap trade that might have made signing Jack or Hump unnecessary to begin with.
  19. 1. Likely, yes, but not necessarily. Splitter plus Patterson would be sufficient salary to obtain Gay. And I would suspect that the 1st from MIN in 2018 would have to be part of any deal. I don't see us doing anything with SAC w/o a third team. 2. I do recognize such a theoretical deal would open up a need at C. But then, with the full MLE being obtained, and given how the market has thinned out, it's not inconceivable that a Jordan Hill might be brought in.
  20. Usually I'm one of the glass half-full guys around here. We need Korver coming off the bench this season, not starting... imho. That means, we're still lacking a front line scorer at the 3. Hope Sothron's source is right that that's something we've been pursuing... Rudy Gay, in particular... THAT would be a huge get that would turn my frown upside down... or something similar.
  21. Knew that about Patterson. Didn't know that about Moose.... thought that once his option was exercised, the salary guarantees. So, in that case, only 14 guaranteed salaries on the ledger today when Wilcox spoke, not 15, seemingly taking us back to the original premise as valid.
  22. Plausible. I'd like to think so. Scott is an energy guy and a scorer, and we need all of that we can get. But for me, I just think there's too much coincidence between that comment and the Hump signing.
  23. Except, counting Hump, there's now 17, not 16. Scott almost certainly was the player Wilcox was already counting out earlier today. And Patterson almost certainly will be the other odd-man out, failing a trade in the meantime.... which, actually, I'm still holding out hope for, b/c I'm still just not real comfortable that we haven't added a proven combo forward scorer, but maybe that's just me. Regarding Splitter, if you watch the interview, the way Wilcox speaks about wanting to get him back healthy lends itself to the conclusion that there's no real thought about moving him.
  24. What's damn incredible when you think about it... Prince did what he did w/ practically zero time practicing, if any at all. If there were ever a year when we need to see rookies step up and demand floor time, this is it, and at least Summer League so far suggests there's some reason for hope on that front. Don't get me wrong.... I'm still hard to be persuaded that either Bembry or Prince will be rotation guys for any extent... but at least, again, it seems they might both be capable of making a case for Bud to consider it.
  25. I was just about to post this from earlier today.... http://www.nba.com/video/games/hawks/2016/07/11/1521600027-bkn-atl-sean-marks.nba/ If you FF to the 4:40 mark, you'll notice that Wes seemingly inadvertently lets slip that we have 15 players on the roster including Jarrett Jack. It was one of those, "Did I hear what I think I just heard" moments, and I thought I'd have to review later. And indeed, upon further review, it is clear that Wes has already subtracted one player from the roster in his head.
