That is the most exciting thing for me. That jump shot looks super fluid. Like, that looks like he could become a good(!) 3-point shooter and not only someone who shoots the occasional wide open corner 3. Which would be great because his (relatively) short arms and skinny frame limit what he will be doing inside in 1vs1- situations where he can't just jump over people.

Okay, Young hit an early three. Let's see if that helps him. He is looking overmatched so far against Ntilikina so far (not surprising).

40 minute games vs. 48 minute games. Doncic played 25 minutes per game (which translates to 30 mpg in the NBA) and averaged 14.5/5.2/4.6. That right there is 21/7.5/6.6 per 36 minutes. Also, Assists in international Basketball are not given out as easily as in the NBA (direct shot after the pass or at most 1 dribble or it is not an assist) and the scoring load is much more balanced, especially in the top teams. Adjusted to "normal" hots, he shot 35%, most of them (like Trae Young for example) difficult, 1-1on1- step backs and the likes. I mean, he had a TS% of 62%, despite having a "bad" shooting year. And many people forget that he just played 91 games since 30th of June 2017. Since he was 17, he played in 172 over 21 straight months. Meanwhile College players fell off a cliff after their first 15 or so games. He hasn't seen a weight-room during that time. Doncic won a tournament as the 1B player against teams led by Porzingis, the Gasol brothers and others. That's now how the game works, my friend. You don't announce "Luka is my PG for this possession so you have to guard him with your point guard". He will be defended by a 3-and-D wing at all times, because that is his size/athletic profile. And he will defend that dude on the other end.

This is just flat-out wrong. 1. The floor is much tighter in Europe due to the closer 3 point line and the fact that you can play off your man as you like without any defensive-3-second rule. Also, these are pro defenses. If Doncic struggles with NBA level defenses, watch out for 10 TOs per game for Young (which he won't have). 2. If Doncic is defended by any PG, he will just bully them and post them up easily - the due is 6'8 with 230+ pounds already and will be even more athletic come September. They will have to put Sefolosha-type guys on him at least to defend him.

Good point. We easily fall into the dichotomy of "high ceiling / low(er) floor" and "low floor / high(er) ceiling" or "high risk / high reward" just because it sounds right. But it is much more likely that the player who is way better at 19 will be better at 29 than the opposite. This is how it works against Doncic that he is already good to great at a lot of things. It is harder for us to imagine him getting even better, while it "easy" to see Young or others overcome the red flags about them and the holes in their games. I like the Huerter pick. The guy has an elite NBA skill in his shooting so he will be useful, although it will be a hard task to make him a starter. The Hawks actually "hit" quite a few of these mid/late teen picks in Schröder/Prince/Collins already, so I hope Huerter will become the next one.

SchrÖder tore up the Nike Hoop Summit as the backup PG of a relegated (=dead last team) in the German league (maybe 5th best in Europe). Nowitzki did the same earlier. Meanwhile, while being YOUNGER, Doncic was the best player on the best team on the continent. It is unfathomable what he would have done against HS/College competition. At worst he wil be the 3rd best player on a championship-level team, because he is that good now. He was as good/better than prime Goran Dragic who is a borderline All-Star. And that isn't even his floor, becabecause everyone improves at least somewhat over 10 years. That's what people don't understand. But they will.

You do realize that palyers like the Gasol brothers, Ginobili, Parker, Giannis, Jokic and so on and on all come from there? And the ones that did not play Euroleague show exactly how good the competition there is. Just somehow all the college busts never lead to someone saying "Maybe we shouldn't go for the guy whos only question mark is "If he ever develops a desire to play, he could be good"". You can't compare 18-20 years olds playing vs. fully developed professionals. A mediocre 28 year old NBA player will smoke most highly-talented rookies, just because of age/experienc/etc. 98% of college players don't even sign a pro-contract in the 3rd Romanian league. Think about that...

True, but Schröder was the 17th pick and not the 5th. You don't draft 5th (3rd really) and sit the guy on the bench. And Schröder will not play a bench role on a team this bad, I think. (not to mention that even if Young is really good, he very likely will need 1-2 years to get better than Schröder is right now)

Exactly! Ciiting Youngs produciton as a justification for the pick is different from citing his ability. And the track record for the high volume scorers + assist guys is not good. And here is the thing: if they don't have a good deal for Schröder already lined up, they now just lost all leverage in trade negotiations about Schröder. You cannot bring in Young and keep Schröder. And everyone knows it.

Here is the thing: nearly no one who leads the NCAA in points or assists turns out to be a great (or even good) NBA player. Why? Because tehy tend to be "good" players on bad teams that just do what they want on offense. Yeah, the thing is: couldn't they have packaged Schröder + 19th +30th + take obn a bad contract to get in the 6-7 range for Trae YOung and keep Doncic? Sounds a lot better than stockpiling late-teens picks.

Without the many injuries, Dallas would've won more games THIS YEAR. With Doncic, who is the most ready player of the draft and possibly a big FA, Dallas will sniff the Play-Offs. And then the 1st roudn pick from them is protected anyway? Good riddance Hawks :D
