I agree, and you aren't going to get veterans to be interested in coming to your organization if you tank and support losing efforts.  As a result, you will be stuck with youth that will not win.

Please show me multiple teams that have sustained success in the NBA without players that were drafted in the lottery.  Your whole argument is completely nonsensical.  The only one I can think of is San Antonio and they are clearly the outlier rather than the rule.

Cleveland is great because they drafted LeBron in the lottery once upon a time AND because they drafted Kyrie in the lottery AND because they drafted Thompson in the lottery.

The Warriors drafted Steph in the lottery, then Draymond, in the lottery then Thompson in the lottery.  Durant was also a lottery pick.

You are assuming the worst and then arguing from a position that your worst assumption is guaranteed.  Your premise is all wrong.  There's only 3 ways that I know of for the Hawks to get these type of lottery players - Draft them, Trade for them, or Sign them as FAs.  We all know that none of them are coming via FA.  So that leaves drafting them or trading for them.  You really can't do either without assets such as draft picks and good contracts.  That's what the GM is TRYING to accumulate now.

Schlenk is sitting on his ass not doing anything right now.  He's truly going to bottom this roster out and fill out the rest of the roster with DLeague players it appears.

If he tanks this roster out, then he should be fired if the team doesn't win 55+ games within 4 years.

LOL.  So "Pacers moving in on Olynyk" = "Schlenk is sitting on his ass not doing anything"  That's an interesting perspective.

I said it before when you and others were screaming about not getting anything for Sap and it bears repeating now.....please just wait until the dust settles to see what the GM does before you jump to unnecessary and mostly wrong conclusions

It also bears repeating what the GM himself has said over and over and over again...... this is not a tank.  It is not a complete rebuild and he is not going to "bottom this roster out and fill the rest of the roster with DLeague players."

I would start them both, yes.  In fact, I'd probably just say those two are my wings with my bigs being Kelly Olynyk if he is signed and Willie Reed (if signed)/Mike Muscala (if resigned).

In an ideal world though, we get Kelly Olynyk and Mason Plumlee and roll out with a line up of Schröder, Crowder, Prince, Olynyk, and Plumlee.

That's a lineup I'd get on board with.  The sweet thing about Crowder is the C's can't take any salary back so all they are giving up is picks to get him.  I'd do that depending on what the demand is.  BUT.....Ainge doesn't have the luxury of holding out for the highest bidder because he has to clear space before he can sign Hayward.  Rock....Hard Place and all that.  Now let's hope our GM can take full advantage.

Pump the brakes. People getting way too excited with very little info on thisbout there. Anyone here should be thrilled to get Crowder but he's not gonna come cheap and I'm sure there will be a lot of suitors offering the Celtics the same that we can. It would probably cost us Bembry in addition to a 1st and that would suck. Hope we get a Crowder for peanuts but I'm gonna expect this is just speculation from someone until we hear something more concrete.

C's have to make a deal to make room for Hayward so they can't take on any salary.  Looks like it would just be picks. The question is how many?  Would Minny's 1 next year be enough?  Would the GM add a 2nd?  I wouldn't give more than that.

I don't think so im saying a top 10 for the hawks, 15 to 20 for the wolves, and depending on health anywhere between 20 and 30 from the rockets.   I like the wolves but i don't see them much higher than a 45 to 47 win team right now.  With what they added and how much tougher the west got i can see them at best gaining 10 to 15 more wins and thats pushing it.  They won 31 last year so 10 to 15 more would be around 41 to 46 wins.   That would put them around pick 15 to 20 or so with no injuries happening.

I can easily see that as well.  My thoughts on Minny are more like 20-25.  I figure they will be competing with 3-4 teams for  the 4/5 seed and will be better than all but 2 East teams.  That puts them clearly behind about 5 teams in my mind which would be 25th pick.  Hard for me to see 10 teams that will be clearly better than the Wolves next year, barring injury of course.

I figure GSW, SAS, HOU, CLEV, and BOS will have better records.  OKC, MIN, TOR, LAC, and DEN will then be competing for the next best records.

Then the next picks that we get should be for 2019 year.

I think the 2018 draft is going to be meh... and we already have 2 first (if the trade goes through).  Although one is prolly close to the 31st pick we had this year in terms of talent.  However, in 2019, we will be still reloading... probably Sf or SG and maybe BU PG so to the draft we should go if we plan to trade for more picks.

    Question:

Is there any prospects on the come up in 2018 draft or 2019 draft that would fit well with Dennis, THJr, and Collins?

If the trade goes through we'd have 3 1sts next year. Hawks, Wolves, and Rockets

Because all of these worderful prizes don't compare to a 4-time all-star who wanted to be in the ATL.

Then blame BudCox for not trading him. The GM inherited this situation and Paul, as much as I like him, is not on the right timeline for the Hawks. They need to tank rather than keep being good but not great.

  8. So they are playing with an 8-man roster now? Otherwise, asking this question is simply feeding the doomsday trolls.  Here's an idea, let's see what the GM actually does to fill out the roster and then evaluate.  I'm not expecting a lot, but it's impossible to make any judgments at this point because we literally have half a roster.

  9. Regarding Noel, does anyone know what Dallas' cap situation looks like?  Can they just match any offer the Hawks could make or is there a certain amount that they can't match given their cap?  I know they intend to resign Noel and Dirk as these are their two priorities so the only way Noel leaves Dallas is if a team sign him for more than Dallas can afford.  I'm not familiar with their situation so I don't know if that's even possible or if they will just match whatever any other team offers.  Does anyone know?

    Knicks  = No.

    Det. - No.

    Mia = Wait and see.

    Then there's injury.

Before a tank strategy..  Who is there worthy of tanking for?

No idea. I just want them to either commit to tanking or commit to winning. The status quo of being a 1st or 2nd rd playoff team is not working.

Go all in and spend or make trades to get a star or commit to tanking. Pick a strategy and go for it. That's all I'm saying.

To everyone saying we will make the playoffs even though the team is rebuilding, I still think that unless there are major moves, ten teams in the east are better than us.

Cle, Bos, Was, MIL, Tor, Mia, Det, Char, Knicks, and 76ers..

The only worse teams assuming we don't get a lot better are the Nets who will be looking to throw money at players, Magic who have a chance to be better, Pacers, And Bulls.

I really hope you are correct.  It would be the most Atlanta thing ever to TRY to suck in order to get a lottery pick and still end up 7/8 in the East and miss the lottery.  I'm not so sure Charlotte, NYK, and Phi are clearly better than the Hawks.  So, imo, they could still be a reasonable bet to make the playoffs as an 8 seed.

It looking like Cleveland will waltz their way to the ECF again next year.  While over in the West they are equipping themselves for war while the Eastern Conference may actually have a team with under 30 wins make the play offs. It is looking that bad. As of today, regardless of what moves are made I think that the Kings are the only team in the West that have no shot of making the playoffs. Even when MJ was dominating the East was no cake walk. What the hell happened? Its like everyone is waiting for Lebron to retire or get hit by a bus. Maybe someone will step up and challenge the Cavs. The Hawks even in rebuilding mode will still make the playoffs. That us how bad the east is. It maybe a long time before we see an eastern conference team win the championship. Again I know that  its early in free agency but only a fool would can't see what his going on. Schlenk wants to be competitive in a conference where a losing record can get you a playoff berth. Even if someone gets past the Cavs it is a murderer's row in the west.

Here's the obvious problem with the system....as it looks right now, you could have Western teams miss the playoff that win 10-15 more games than some East playoff teams.  Which means that they will be in the Lottery while the unlucky east playoff teams - the ones that NEED the lottery - won't be.  A team like the Hawks absolutely COULD win 32-33and make the East playoffs and then draft behind a team like Denver that wins 45-46 games.  Completely possible with this idiotic draft system and the extreme imbalance between the two conferences.

Thjr played for the Michigan Wolverines, Alex is a Michigan State Sparty fan - the hate is real. He'd rather have Adreien Payne than Timmy.

THIS.  It's impossible to take @Alex seriously about any of this.  Not only is he generally negative about nearly everything that has to do with the Hawks, he's especially negative about THJ given the Mich connection.

To his credit, he did say he's more focused on defending Beal than his offense. I just want him to hit more than he misses.

I agree. I just think if the Hawks are going to win a game on the road they will need a big performance from him.

Unless someone has the hots for Baze or Timmy, we might be done dealing...which kinda sucks imo.

If they deal THJ, that leaves Dunleavy as the only 2 on the roster.  I know others can play there, but I can't see Bud wanting to roll with an aging vet and spare parts at SG.  Ideally, they would find a way to turn Baze into a couple pieces, including a 2 for depth.  That or send a 2nd to LAL for Young Swaggy P.

    That's dissapointing.

Yup.  Gotta say I'm a little surprised and confused by this.  I understand he's got other things going on as well, but seems like it would have been expected and understood when he joined the ownership group that he'd use his connections with the players to help the team any way he could.  Otherwise, they are sort of wasting the benefit of having a NAME guy as part of the ownership?
